I'm new to both vaping as well as this forum. I have an istick pico mega with the smok tfv4 mini tank. I'm currently using the included rca with a 4 wrap coil using fused clapton coil wire and japanese cotton. It's showing .57 ohms on the display. i cannot get any sort of flavor out of this thing. i tried using the premade coils, same thing. Changed ejuice, same thing. If i turn it above 25 watts it tastes burnt. anything below, zero flavor. Ive tried every sort of wicking style that google and youtube could provide me. more cotton, less cotton, pancake, etc. to the point of having it leaking everywhere just to see if i helped to have it flooded. still bad. i see people on youtube with the same stuff on 60 watts excited about the flavor. i can't get it to thirty without a terrible taste. what am i doing wrong? please help as i have found zero assistance from the ...... who are selling me the stuff.

and be sure to pre-wet your coil before putting the tank back on.

Thank you for your quick response. I prime the coils every time. i even let the tank sit overnight after a filled it once. Is there a break in period before it starts tasting good after priming? i hit it about 5 times and it doesn't get any better so i try again. it's ridiculous the amount of juice and cotton i've wasted already.

Not really, once you have it primed. Just make sure the cotton is getting juice and your air flow isn't blocked by the coil. Start at lower wattage and work your way up. Make sure you have enough airflow to cool the coil as you increase wattage. There should be lots of juice running to the wick without having to let it sit. Kind of hard to help more than this without seeing your build and wicking. lol. also make sure the wick is snug but not tight. To tight or to loose and it will not draw juice properly. You might have to play a bit to get just the right amount for you.

Are you Sure the pico is set to watts?
Did you try Bypass?
Nice build,

As a last ditch, you didn't cuss out a Gypsy?

Thanks, I've been getting plenty of unwanted practice, lol. It's definately on wattage. i don't know how to work any of the other settings yet. it seems a bit over my head at times, so i've been on google like it's my job. i just don't understand why it doesn't taste good like it should. I feel like ive done everything right and it's something small screwing me up.

I really want to say that you may be using too much wick. It just seems like it's choked up at the coil to me, and you're not wicking juice fast enough. Try a little less/thinner wick and see if it helps.

I'll give it a try, but i think that's just from the camera angle. there's actually a little bit of a gap between coil and cotton on the inside.

Apparently because i bought all my juice at the same time from my local shop where they mix it in house, and i didn't "steep" them, they lost their flavor. Any validity to this from your experience? Any recomendations on a brand of juice that wont give me the same problem?
"Aging" is a more correct term than "steeping". You don't really need to do any thing more than letting the juice sit for some time for the flavours to mix. Most liquids don't need aging. The liquids won't lose their flavour by you not using any special method for "steeping".

Hot spot someplace. Did you tune the coil? Heat it up, squeeze the coils together (don't press the fire button while squeezing the coils). They should glow from the middle of the coil out. also make sure your leads are tightened down. A loose lead changes the voltage across that lead.

if you need help with this, I probably have an RBA around here someplace that I can toss a coil on and make a short video. No laughing at my crappy cam though.

And yeah, double check that the coil is ONLY contacting on the pos and neg screw posts, and no place else. Your coil could be a little large. Hard to tell from that angle.

It's hard to really say exactly why this is happening, sometimes it just takes some minor changes. To me your set up looks like it should work fairly good. I don't own that tank but if it were happening to me, I might try reducing the diameter of the coil slightly, which in turn will reduce the amount of wicking material, allowing for more airflow in and around the coil. It just looks like everything is too bulky and cramped. Also if the coil is too far from airhole, it will reduce flavor, I personally like 1 to 1.5 mm away. Cotton can be tricky getting the right amounts and have found rayon to be a lot more forgiving with amounts used. When filling, only fill to 90 percent, sometimes filling all the way can mess with pressure, also over saturating . I saturate, but never over saturate . When ready to vape, take a few dry pulls

A brand new wick can have some muted flavor for a while.
Make sure your coil is not touching anything...posts...inside of cap...
The only place it should touch is where the wire goes into the hole of the post.
Another thing is what flavor are you using...some flavors don't like more heat/power.

I concur with this as well. Yes, you might want the wick's shoulders pushed up to the ends of the coil, you do not want to strangle the coil though. This is a little bit tricky getting correct, even having built and put wick in several coils.

Also, do you (OP) have any medical issues which might effect your sense of taste? Not suggesting you are like me, but I do know some who have no sense of taste or limited. This for me is a congenital issue & I have learned to accept some and to compensate in other manners.

Good example of compensating, ask a vendor to add flavor shots or up/lessen the flavor percentage.
