Hey guys, im new here as you probably figured. Like everyone else I tried to do some research to figure out whats the best starter ecig kit for me. I was looking for strong throat hit (Because I smoke and want to quit analogues) and Im really not too bothered how it looks. I ended up ordering the rivo t 510 from liberty flights. It arrived and the first dumb mistake i made was filling the cart that was in the e-cig - which was only acting as a plug...so it dripped out and went everywhere - beautiful.
After scratching my head i figured out the sealed carts were the ones to filled. Anyway i got it up and running but some hits were stronger than others and it felt inconsistent. I did enjoy it and was getting confident in it. However, the third day - Dumb mistake no.2, I thought the atomizers were clogged so I read that I should blow them and clean with hot water – well now they are totally ......ed. Theres no real draw from it, it feels blocked and slightly burny.

So heres my question, should I just start again with a new kit (any recommendations) or is there a way to remedy the effects of my inexperience

IMO I don't think that you would have to get a whole new kit, cause your batteries are working find its just the cartomizer thats messed up. You could get by with just getting a new cartomizer or clearomizer. I also started with a 510 kit. I wasnt impressed with the cartomizers that it came with they were kinda leaky and didn't hold much. I would go to a local shop or order a clearomizer for a 510. Once I got a good 510 clearomizer I was hooked for good!! I don't know the name of the one that I got for my 510 or I would tell ya sorry :-(. Or there might be some trick that a vet might know to get your carto going again. Good luck and vape on!!

Hi and welcome to ECF.
Is this the Kit you bought?
2 x 650mAh Riva Battery
2 x 510-T "Tank" Atomizers - 2.0 ohm resistance
1 x USB Fast Charger
1 x USB Mains Plug (US)
5 x Blank Carts - e-liquid will be required to fill the cartridges, sold separately
2 x Atomizer Cone
Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510-T

Not to worry because the "tank" system (cartridge+ atomizer) is outdated and prone to leaks. The Riva battery is a manual battery so it's sealed and less susceptible to damage from juice. The Riva fires at 3.7 volts and is a solid PV. Any 510 or eGo threaded juice delivery device (holds and vaporizes the juice) will work much better than your present tank system.

Yes that is the product, thanks. Good to know i still have usable parts. So does a clearomizer or cartomizer as one unit replace the tank system (cart and atomizer) as two units? Ive tried reading on this before maybe I should go back to the books. Would you have any recommendations as to how I can make this work good for me? I should have started here first, starting with an outdated system hasnt helped

Yes eventually the cartridges would've begun leaking + the maintenance of the atomizers is a PITA. When this first "tank" system first came out it was GREAT but is now outdated and there are far superior tank systems available.
So does a clearomizer or cartomizer as one unit replace the tank system (cart and atomizer) as two units?
Different delivery systems:- note bolded Atty, Carto, etc is the abbreviated form

Atomizer/ Atty- an element on to which 3-4 drops of juice is dripped- usually used for testing new juices because Attys are easy to clean. There are some diehard Atty users because it’s the best vape possible but very time consuming.

Cartridge/ Cart- a container with sponge (filled with juice) that is used with the Atty- juice drips on to Atty from filled cart and is vaporized- older outdated first “tank” system and prone to leaks unless the user is willing to buy extra seals and “fiddle” with them. This is the present system you have.

Cartomizer/ Carto- metal tube with stuffing and element. Holds anywhere form 1- 4 ml of juice. Carto is fully saturated and must be occasionally refilled when juice runs out. My Cartos last 1-2 weeks. Best Cartomizer I’ve found is the Smok Tech XL 1.7 single coil. Boge 2.0 ohm cartos will give a cooler vape. Always use single coil cartos with 3.3- 3.7 PVs for the best vape.

Carto+Tank- a Carto with a hole punched in it. Carto is than placed in a glass, metal or plastic tank which is filled with juice- juice saturates Carto by way of hole in Carto. My Cartos with a tank last, before tight draw occurs: light juices- 80-90 ml. dark juices- 50-60 ml.

Clearomizer (includes the Stardust and the Vivi Nova)- a plastic or metal tank with a wick and element. Contains NO stuffing. The rebuildable clearos come with heads (coil+ wick) that can be cheaply ($2.00) and easily (10 secs) replaced. When the head burns out simply unscrew the old head out and screw in new head- takes 10 secs. My Vivi Nova heads are lasting about 10+ weeks BUT I wash the heads every few days. I've found the Vivi Nova to give the best draw. Make absolute sure it's the Vision brand Vivi Nova- knockoffs are problematic.

When I first began vaping I used Boge 2.0 ohm single coil cartos (1 ml). After 1 month I switched to Smok Tech XL 1.7 single coil cartos (1.8 ml). Next I used a carto+and tank (3ml) setup. When the cracking and wicking issues were resolved I got into Stardusts (1.6 ml). I now use the Mini Vivi Nova (2.0 ml) rebuildables as I feel they give a better draw and are far superior in quality. It is VERY important to match the correct ohms delivery device to the PV we are using otherwise, dry hits or a weak vape will occur.
Your PV fires @ 3.7 volts so the best ohms is 1.7- 2.2 ohms. Lower ohms gives a warmer stronger vape.

I seen this awhile back and it might help you or another that is new. Electronic Cigarette Vaping Lingo | Electronic Cigarette Reviews and Savings

I started vaping almost 3 years ago with a ego battery and a crummy 510 cartomizer, that wasnt working for me and almost went back to smoking but figured I will try a VV mod and a different cartomizer. I got a the old buzz VV mod a cartomizer tank and the rest is history.
If the cig like battery not working for you try a cheap VV box mod or a vamo that can be had for about $30.-$35.

Boil the atomisers for 10 mins in water then shake vigorously dry. That will clear some gunk. Then drip 4 drops of ejuice onto the wick and then plug a tank on. Wait a couple of mins and start vaping again.

Thanks for that, I’d like to try a fix it while I look into alternatives, I’ll let you know how I do

Thanks all this info, this is awesome. Im leaning towards a clearomizer since it mentioned above and nicely illustrated by you. Taking more time with volts/ohms relationship - my goal is to get a strong hit each time. I have one more question. When my kit stopped working I had my eye on the kanger evod starter kit because everyone seemed to be giving good reviews, however now that I know that my parts are interchangeable could I get the evod clearomizer on its own with the battery I have. Im also going to look into the ones you mentioned.!

Thanks for the guide- it was very simple and clear for me.... As for the VV box Mod - Im a little out of my depth lol...one thing at a time lol. What does the majority of users use cart a cartomizer or clearomizer or is that even a fair question because Im aware it comes down to personal choice

In regards to matching ohms to volts here's a chart:

When buying make absolutely sure they are single coil. With dual coil your batts aren't powerful enuff and you'll get a weak vape.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with your batts. In fact now that you have the charger if wanting to upgrade to VV Spinner or Twist all you need is the batt. I own the 1100 Kgo which is a larger version of the Riva- got all sorts of PVs and I still use my Kgo.
Yeah you can buy anything that's 510 or eGo threaded...just be very aware of the ohms of what you're buying- some are 2.4 ohms which is too high for your PV= weak vape.

In regards to juice delivery devices you'll get a million and one fave posts...nothing wrong with that as we all have our favorite JD Devices.

Hey ref minor , after I boil the atomisers should I wait a period for them to dry out…ive shaken hell out of them already

Welcome to the wonderful world of vaping, chinbags! If you're looking for good, strong throat hits, I do suggest strong, bold flavors like menthol / mint or spicy ones like cinnamon. These were the ones that helped me get over the analogs. I'm vaping some cola today. Finally, you'll want to be careful about what juices you are putting in particular delivery systems. There are a ton of flavors out there known to be clearomizer killers.

I just picked up a Vivi Nova and am liking it. There's also, with some vendors, a metal tube option for this tank. My Vapor Store sells these options for about $10-$13 (pending on which size and accessories you want).

Or, I also have a Smok Dual Coil Cartomizer ($3 from Mt. Baker Vapor) that I have enjoyed so far. With this guy, I have it filled with Key Lime (a clearo killer) and this is my banging around town carto. It holds up to 5 ml juice, vapes well, and I wouldn't cry if I lost it at only $3. Plus it doesn't look terribly big and ridiculous like some of the systems on the market, so it fits right in my pocket and is smaller than a pack of stinkies. I've used this on my standard 650 ego and my eGo twist (variable voltage) and it works just fine for me on both.

Both of these options will handle any type of juice you put in it.

As you're getting deeper into vaping, do your research with juice vendors. There are a ton of them out there, and they're not all good vendors. Don't be afraid to buy some sampler packs, and with samplers, it might be a good idea to get flavors that are somewhat compatible. That way you can combine some if you're getting low or want to experiment a bit. Like combining a cola with some vanilla or cherry or something like that. When you get a bunch of samplers, you can start figuring out what flavor profiles you might like.

Good luck getting off the analogs; you'll thank yourself after a few days of exclusive vaping.

That chart is great - thank you.

So when you talk about vv spinner thats a variable voltage battery right which is different than mine and which would replace mine right? I think I want to use what I have and build on the mistake I bought to make it something I can enjoy. I want to stick a clearomizer on it maybe.

You mentioned to make sure they are single coil - im trying to find that spec under their product details, it should be listed right? Can you link the mini vivi novo compatible with my battery?

In my earlier post I stated there is nothing wrong with your present PV and I stand by that statement. I'm only mentioning upgrades for down the road...most vapers eventually do upgrade. You really didn't make a mistake and 99% of the starter kits out there have a "weak" link. I still use atomizers to test new juices as they're easy to clean.

You mentioned to make sure they are single coil - im trying to find that spec under their product details, it should be listed right? Can you link the mini vivi novo compatible with my battery?
"Most" clearomizer are single coil. The only exception that I know of is the IClear30. When shopping for a Vivi here's a comparision pic of the heads:

You're a smart guy Chinbags to figure out your first kit first! Clearomizer's are easy & not too expensive; most will say if they are "double coils" otherwise nothing ;)

I just shake them hard with a loose wrist (like an old school thermometer) then drip a little juice on the wick and add a tank and take a couple of quick drags then back to the vaping.
