Yeah, I learned truckloads from Vapoor. Folks are really helpful around here. It's nice.

I have to second that. This place is awesome. Dont think I can thank everyone enough.

Im ordering the mini vivi nova from litecigusa.net. While Im there Im also looking at alternative juices, picking up orange, mint, apple and strawberry 5 mls. Ive read a lot of conflicting view as to how much a 5mil equates to a pack of cigarettes? I am assuming 1 5 mil equates to 2-3 packs?

I doubt there's a good "equivalence" to be found. At least not yet? As I recall, I've read that the first patent for a viable commercial device was taken out only about 2003 and the products hit the US around 2007. I don't know for certain those dates are correct but, basically, the "vaping era" (for lack of a better term?) is about a decade... ish?

And I haven't seen too many studies yet that pin down how much nicotine is available and absorbed in vaping. There's a chain of events involved. Such as, you start with, say, 18mg/ml liquid. Okay, your PV vaporizes the liquid. What percentage is available to be absorbed? One test I read about suggested about half. So vaping one ml of 18mg/ml means 9mg of nicotine is available.

Then how much is absorbed? Um... dunno. Enough? :)

As in, I'm not getting severe cravings and haven't since I started this so I'm absorbing "enough" to (more or less) match the level I was getting when smoking. Whatever that is. Because, come to think, I never bothered to have my blood tested while I smoked so I don't know what level of nicotine I "needed" (as it were) to not have cravings.

My cigs were said to have 0.9mg of nic each (a list I don't know is accurate or not can be found here). So twenty cigs per pack at 0.9 is 18mg. If half the nic is available when vaporized, 18mg/ml liquid yields 2ml is roughly one pack.

But only kinda sorta. How much of the nic was I absorbing when smoking? I don't know. Never had a blood test or anything back then to check. :) How much do I absorb now? Dunno. Have I measured how much I'm using now? Nope. I just sort of do this by "feel". That is, if I ain't getting cravings, I must be getting "enough".

Too many variables in there.

You could start with a rough (very rough) rule of thumb kind of thing that 1 to 2ml of average (12mg to 18mg) is about a pack. Then adjust to suit. I suspect the only real "measure" is "when you lose interest in smoking". That's when you've reached a level of nicotine where the cravings are mild enough you can ignore them. Or vape them away. Whatever works for you.

Which, by the way, can take some time. It varies. Some folks just walk away from smoking the first day. Others slow down on the smoking (often to a big, big degree, mine dropped about 90% the first week) then slow to a stop over some period of time (with me, six weeks more or less... your mileage may vary). I think getting "settled in" can take time for some. Finding the right kit, the right liquids, shifting your habits (which can be a heavy lift) can take a while. Or you luck out and hit it the first time.

Myself, I'm big on the idea of "positive reinforcement". As in, I refused (and still refuse) to treat this as a "quit". "Quitting" was miserable and failure and sometimes freaking nightmarish (don't get me started on Zyban). I focused on enjoying the vaping. And the cigs just became dull and bad tasting and uninteresting more each week until I just didn't like them anymore.

Heh, but I do play a "mind game" with myself. I can have a cig any time I want. I just have to go to the store, buy a pack, drive back (no smoking in the truck), find a lighter (I think I have some still), find an ashtray (not sure they survived the great "clearing space for new juices" purge :) )... and stand in the kitchen until I finish the nasty thing.

Nah. I have blueberry juice sitting right here, right next to me. I like blueberries. :)

So I'm still a smoker. I just don't want to smoke right now. And "right now" is becoming all the time.

(Sounds silly maybe but it works so... whatever eh? :) )

Anyway. I better get busy with other stuff. But real quick:

Also, recommendations for a few more reputable vapor cites would be greatly appreciated.

That's easy. ECF has a Forum Suppliers section over this way: Forum Suppliers. Vendors known to the forum and who have a rep to protect. I've gotten really great service from the ones I've used.

Not that those are the only good ones but it makes for a good starting place when you don't yet know the "lay of the land".

True, but I did see that New Zealand are doing a study of 650 users testing vap vs e-cig. In England a company is leading an inititiave to sell an e-cig as a "life saving device". It is currently under review and if approved it would be the first prescription e-cig nictone replacement therapy. I think its moving in the right direction

I like your spirit! and I have to agree that quitting analogues is a matter of the mind and positive thinking. I can talk all day about the patches, gum, chantix (never again) and so on. Personally I found the gum one of the better options and was ready to give that another go until I considered the vape approach.
Thanks for the vendor links too. I actually found a store I can visit in my area, its a bit out of the way but Im going to make a trip up there. Have a great weekend!

I just shake them hard with a loose wrist (like an old school thermometer) then drip a little juice on the wick and add a tank and take a couple of quick drags then back to the vaping.

Just an update, this method appears to have worked. My atomizers appear to be working ok now, therefore this will tie me over until I get my clearomizer. Thanks for the advice Ref Minor

Except I'm a bit leery of going the "prescription" route. At least here in the US as big pharma is known for jacking prices sky high.

Vaping is getting attention and studies are getting rolling. But for now, you have to sort of learn by doing. That and ECF. Just took a peek at the "active user" count. It's 18,486. AKA "freaking huge". :)

Funny, I was thinking a lot about trying the gum again myself before I stumbled and bumbled into vaping. I did better on it than any of the others. But vaping has all of them beat. No question. Such as I've started dabbling with mixing my own flavors. Gum just don't come in "root beer float". :)

So glad I found this thread since I bought the same model as chinbags. Have had it for a few days after vaping V2 minis for a few weeks.

The Riva has been leaking so badly that my fingers smell and taste better than my vapes! On top of that, after I refill there's a good chance that I take a sip of liquid the first few hits. I gather from this thread that I should switch delivery systems to fix the leaking, but still I must be doing several things wrong.

One question I have from the original post:

>It arrived and the first dumb mistake i made was filling the cart that was in the e-cig - which was only acting as a plug...so it dripped out and went everywhere - beautiful.

I'm not sure what this means. I've only been filling the ones that came in the c-cigs-I haven't opened any of the 5 spares.

Any help appreciated.

Hi, and sorry to hear you ended up like me! It sounds like you are doing something wrong. The carts that came "in" the e-cig are NOT to be used as cart for liquid. They are merely "plugs" for when its not in use. You have to use the spares that were wrapped in plastic. When you open it there is a little plug or cap on the top that comes off so you can fill it with juice. Take a look and you will see what I mean. Make sure you place the "plug" back into the cart before you stick it into the atty. Use those carts instead...otherwise its not going to work at all.

You may have got it all gunked up while doing this so I would boil the boil the atomizer for ten minutes or soak them as has been advised here to me, get them clean and dry, then use fresh carts and go from there

Thanks for the reply.

I ended up finding some videos that explained this and tried it the "right" way. With the cap on, I couldn't get any draw at all-no liquid would flow into the atty. I then picked up a CE4 clearomizer and that's been working flawlessly. I give up on the 510-T tanks.

Good for you. Im expecting my clearomizer today..looking forward to it. If i were you I would not throw the attys out..keep them, boil them and at least you might have for a back up. Ive spent the week getting more accustomed to the 510 tank system and while its not very satisfactory i have got it back working and learned a lot from it. It should also come in as a back up too, I hope.

I vaped menthol for about 10 months in my Vivi without issue. In Stardusts I vaped menthol for about 3 months without issue. I bought 50 grams menthol crystals for $11.00 and mix with PG and add to my juices accordingly. 50 grams prolly good enuff for the next 3 yrs LOL

Hey Vapor Eyes, so my clearomizer came today..the difference is night and day! So Im using the 1.8 wick that came with it...I got another tobacco juice which aint as nice as the other I have...Im wondering how does one rotate juices with these wicks....once Im done with this fill will the wick be smelly and stained with the tobacco one, especially if i want to move over to the menthol..

I guess this is why people have a couple of different set ups...

Yep, I have several clearos of various kinds, all with replaceable coil heads. However, if I want to change out a fluid, I either just wash/rinse the coil head, or worse case soak the coil head in vodka overnight and then rinse. Of course, it needs to dry!
When I'm in desperate need, I dry the wick by carefully squeezing the parts of the wick you can see, with vaper towels (paper towels). In addition, since you can't reach the atomizer/coil, I put it on my PV and hit the button for a second, repeating it, until there's almost no hissing sound, which means the wick at the coil is almost dry. I read somewhere, people using a hair dryer for the same purpose.

I might also add, this tobacco juice tastes pretty bad...could it be burning? The hit isnt a very strong throat hit but the amount of vapor that comes out of my mouth is crazy

Although a juice might have the same name, doesn't mean that the flavor is the same, due to different mixing of flavors. In addition, some juices you can vape right out of the box, some others have to steep for a while to develop their flavor.
The amount of vapor itself depends on the PG/VG mix. If I'm not mistaken, higher PG is good for flavor, higher VG is good for vapor. I usually go with either 60 PG/40 VG or 50/50.
Regarding the TH, a higher nicotine level does have more TH. However, since most of the time I'm "chain vaping", I'm going with 1.1 - 1.4 % (11 - 14 mg) nicotine.

Awesome thanks...I was about to ask about this, since I only have one 1.8 wick for now, I am dying to get my other juices in it, i will give this a try. Im beginning to realize that I need to pick up a couple more clearos, I might try what rockb4 suggested ealier on this page since they are also based in ct.

This is all good to know, thank you.
