Best big, cheap custard?

first impression of Gremlin: bland

surprised to hear that. i often wonder to what degree differences in preference are due to variation in batches and/or quality control. i mean, individual perception and varying gear probably accounts for most of it. i guess we'll figure it out as more info becomes available.

i think someone said earlier that they order steam tvc with extra flavour - not me - my order definitely had plenty (@ 50/50).

i just cycled through another 30 of charlie's custard. really good stuff: kind of grows on you. subtle, but addictive. off topic, but charlie's 'good cookie' from the admiral's reserve line deserves honorable mention. i picked it up looking for a cheaper mr. cookie (g2) but it turned out to be a chocolate-chocolate cookie. i was disappointed at first, but as it turns out it's an amazing chocolate flavour - awesome as a mixer/to cycle in and out of the dripper. already on my second 30 and debating picking up a 120.

daft spunk is next on the order list, i guess. though i'm tempted to order more derail or another in the casey jones line - it was pretty awesome after a 30 day steep.

@OcalaFlGuy ~ there are definitely juices geared more towards devices with better wicking ability that support higher power and hence produce more flavour. i don't mean to be critical - if your'e happy with your evod that's awesome (i wish i was)! but maybe consider sticking with vendors that offer a 50/50 (or higher pg) blend (if you're not already)?

ok I now have two batches of GVC clone mixed up, one batch using Capella's Vanilla Custard v2 and just now I threw together a batch using v1. I want a diacetyl boost on my custard, please ;)

Now the waiting. A month from now I am going to seriously evaluate both of these recipes and see what I think. The TFA Dulce de Leche smells extremely chemical-y fresh and at a week after mixing. If it doesn't transform into a non-chemical-y secret weapon by 30 days I am going to start over, replacing the TFA DdL with some other flavors I have on hand. If I do end up going that route it won't be a GVC Clone any more, which is just fine if it yields the custard I am seeking. I'm still hoping that one of the two batches I've already mixed is magic at 30 days. I have a three week old bottle of Casey Jones Mainline Reserve Gold Rush, and after all this I'd almost swear that TFA DdL is one of his ingredients, because it has the exact same chemical-y smell. I'm letting that one sit too to see what happens to it after a 30 day nap.

I've made plenty of batches of the GVC clone. TFA's DDL is some strong stuff. My first batch tasted a bit off, I knew right away it was the Ddl (this was back when people were recommending 5% ddl per mix). I let it sit for a good month and it was fine after that. No chemical taste, but it certainly was strong and noticeable. My current batches only contain 2% ddl, it doesn't seem like much, but trust me it is.
I should be getting a shipment in from wizard labs soon. Tempted to drop my VC slightly and add about 3% toasted marshmallow to the mix.

If I had it to do over again, I would probably have gotten the 2 stick EVOD 2 starter kit instead of the 1.

I thought I'd done my homework but none of the reviewers of the EVOD mentioned the 50/50 suggestion, but I certanly agree myself. Now.

I just loaded up a first tank of Space Jam Astro. It's 50/50 and much more flavoful than the 65/35 vg/pg Moon Mountain.

Go the Nicoticket route. Most of their juices are 50/50 blends with solid flavor. Price is average and you can taste the quality that using good ingredients yields. With the sale going on now it is a no brainer. I have a bit of a PG intolerance so the couple of fruit flavors with the 65% PG bother me, but all the 50/50 blends I am fine with unlike most other brands. Fast shipping and the best customer service are just the icing on the cake.

Since this thread is supposedly about a "Cheap Custard" and I consider "Cheap" as less than $0.25 per ml , my choice is Steams Thick Vanilla Custard. As good as the 32ml $.50-.75 per ml best from the other vendors. It's all is subject to taste. I've tried over 30 vanilla custards and only 5 are on my list. I like rich vanilla. I can take either an egg or a sweet dominance taste as long as it tastes good. Steam is kind of between those to flavors, with leaning to-wards the sweet side, I think it's the best "Cheap Custard" I've tried. If you come across another comparable vanilla custard at this price range what is it? Maybe CJR's custard is as good. IDK as I've only got as close with their "Gold Rush" which is custard and butterscotch. Not even sure if they make a straight vanilla custard, but the custard the use as their base in the other flavors is top notch. The only thing going against them is slow turnaround times.

I have some CN waiting for me when i get back to visit the US in June so I can compare it to Steam Juice but by far my fav Daft Spunk from Sleeping Dragon. I would have been DIY'ing myself but my credit card was compromised right before i came back last time. Your results sound promising Vapenstein and this time I'm sure to be in.

Has anyone tried Vapeshack 808's Graham Custard, Salted Custard or Mango Custard? I had seen them on z-Vaper's Top 10 List and then i saw a 30% Off Going this week, so i was wondering if anyone has tried and or liked? I have tried cheap juice before like dr. crimmys and i have 120ml's just sitting on my table because i dont like it. Just taste cheap and weird too me for some reason. Is Vapeshack 808 going to be any better? Iam always nervious about "cheap juice" because of dr crimmys

Crimmys was ok for me, just kinda average. It was vapable, just not something I would order again. CJMR and Steam are the best at the price. Nico has a buy one get one code BOGO and I just got my order of 4 60ml bottles for $60 Virus is the bomb. first one I tried. If it was normally $30 for 120ml I would be buying more. After saying that I think CJMR and Steam have flavors just as good at a cheaper price.

first impression of GVC clone using v1 custard
Where the recipe using v2 custard is much more dulce de leche forward at the same percentages and at 2 weeks really, really tastes like flan, this is more custard-y

I think it's great both ways and both may be keepers. Very different juice depending on which Capella's custard you use. Both are green and need more time. I won't make any conclusions until both are at 4 weeks, but I'll keep sampling them weekly to see what's happening with them.

The v2 version may be perfect as is. I don't know that any additional flavor notes would benefit it, as it's a very nice flan vape with heavy burnt sugar notes and is pretty darn delicious. The v1 recipe may benefit from added butter or egg nog, but I want to let it mature before messing with the recipe. As they are using the straight off the internet percentages, they're better than any commercial custards I've vaped, although the Charlie Noble is different and unique enough that I'd still have to buy a bottle of that now and then.

I'll visit both of these again next weekend to see how they're developing.

I've got six vanilla custards at the moment. From left to right:

Charlie Noble
ITC
White Label
Velvet Cloud
Grant's
Daft Spunk

I also have some various strawberry custards from ITC and White Label that are pretty good.

I've only vaped one tank of the Grant's, I find it entirely 'meh'. I'll give it another try in a few days. Overall I like the Charlie Noble best. ITC is very single note but good. Haven't tried the Daft Spunk yet but it doesn't smell like anything special.

I'm going to try some DIY next. This simple flavor profile can't be massively difficult.
