My point is, without that Blu kit, I never would have quit. As much as I despise Blu, I have to praise them because they gave me the impetus and idea that I could stop a 30+ year habit. I am forever grateful to them because of that. Otherwise, they suck. Bad.

^^This, word for word. Blu helped me quit too, after 31 years, and I also smoked Marlboro reds.

So I talk to a lot of smokers who are considering switching but are dead set on finding a cigalike type device. What should I recommend?

I've heard a few people on ECF saying that a cigalike worked for them and they were still using them. But not many.

I tell people to get a real PV, usually recommending a Kanger Protank II as a topper and an ego Twist or Vision Spinner as the battery. (Both are low end variable voltage systems.) I tell them "I know that you want it to look and taste and feel exactly like a cig, but you can't get that. It isn't possible. When they make something the size of a cig, it's still much heavier because it's a battery. And it's a small battery, so if you use it much, an hour later it's out of power. It also has very little room to store e-juice, and you don't get variable voltage options. It's the most expensive, and least effective, way to vape. Don't waste your money".

I'm fine with it if someone uses a cig-alike and it works for them. But to me, it looks like most of the people who try them don't have success with them, so they are a waste of money. And worse than that, many of those people say "Oh, I tried vaping, it didn't work for me", because they wouldn't buy decent equipment.

For the ones that complain about spending $100 to get a decent starter setup, I tell them "That's the cost of two cartons of cigs. Even a fairly light smoker, at a half-pack a day, will a lot more than that in a month".

I know there is no love for ciga-likes on this forum, but some of us prefer them. I started with Blu a year ago and then found White Clouds. Started with the flings and loved them. I'm absolutely hooked on their cinnamon. I purchased the cirrus 3X kit, and although it was expensive, I'm happy with it. Curiosity lead me buy an EGO setup but I could never find juices that I liked as much as White Clouds. While my EGO and a box full of ejuices go unused, 99% of the time I use the White Cloud. Their cartridges are long lasting and don't lose flavor until the very end. I also keep a supply of the Flings (regular size, the mini's aren't worth the money). I'm a very satisfied and loyal White Clouds customer.

I hear ya. I preferred my Smokeless Image Volts for months. The 78mm batteries would last 2-2.5 hours of actual vape time. Pretty good since I had a few of them and they were small, light and easy to carry. Some people like the portable charging cases too.

I think a lot of people like and use ciggish size pvs, and those pvs have improved sine the ones that were around a few years ago. I think we do need to be welcoming to those vapers. People have different reasons for wanting cig size pvs. I know for myself there was no way I would try something bigger at that point. Trying to push me into a bigger pv would have lost me. But then I pretty much decided for myself without asking. :vapor:

My wife and I quit using Fins from Wally World. They really aren't that bad. I now own a Provari, a Reo, many different toppers and mix my own juice. Keep in mind the person looking at trying vaping is uncertain if it will work for them and therefore is cost adverse. Props to the OP for asking this question. My wife and I tried vaping in large part because the cost of the Fin starter kit was cheap enough to be worth the risk if it didn't pan out.
