how many ohms do you try to go for?

That is determined by the design of the topper, and the power applied.
I use a 2 ohm coil in an A7, a 1.25 ohm coil in a kayfun, and a 0.4 ohm coil in a Nimbus. All three taste the same.

Basically, more air = less resistance coil to produce the same flavor.

    This. :thumb:

I'll have been vaping for 3 years next month. I've worked in a vape shop for a year, where all the employees built their own coils, many of them exotic coil builds, mostly sub-ohm. To me, the exotic coils did nothing to improve flavor or vapor production. I'm not personally a fan of real low resistance (below 0.5 ohm); too warm for my tastes.

I make simple micro-coils in all of my rebuildables. I use 28g Kanthal. 3mm diameter (larger coil is just easier to wick). 1.5 ohm for my Kayfun Lite Plus rebuildable tank atomizer which sits on a Provari. 0.6 ohm dual for my Patriot rebuildable drip atomizer (with enlarged air holes) which sits on an AltSmoke Silver Bullet. I use either Chinese cotton or cellucotton as my wick in both devices.
