I kind of feel bad about this. I think the original inventor posted here before his design was available.

He wanted to charge $20 each.
FastTech offers the set of 3 for less than $7.

$60? $6.82?

Which one did you buy? If the set of 3 was $20, would it have made a difference to you?

Yes, I think the original was well over priced.. I don't use coil jigs, drill bits work fine for me, and I do a much tighter coil than these things do, and I'm not sure how easy it would be to set a coil with that big handle attached to the end of the dowel. I know some people are physically unable to wrap without help, and this seems like it could be a good tool for them.. so I thought I'd share the great price (Thanks GotSmok.com!)

Yes. I know a number of folks who could benefit from this.

But talk about cloning, Fasttech also offers this:
$3.44 Kuro Koiler Wire Coiling Tool + 3-in-1 Screwdriver Kit - black / aluminum / 3.0mm + 2.5mm + 2.0mm winding rods at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Which I would NEVER recommend. Cheap clone which was made without respect for the real aspects of the original.
It's nothing like the Kuro (even though it kinda looks like it). But it shows you the real aspects of the "clone races" over there.

Whats the issue on that? do the pins spin? if it works like its supposed to it seems like it would be better than the other as you don't have 3 giant rods, and you can take the pin out to set your coil... Similar to the design of the original with a potential improvement (depends on how they implemented the "improvement") IMO

I don't like the way the wire feeds through the hole, and it really looks like the flathead screw will catch on the wire. Hadn't thought about the utility of removable rods, though. (Also really looks like it's cheaply made compared to the other one) Perhaps I'm a bit too judgmental....

Maybe you're just more familiar with some of fasttech's crappier build quality items than I am. :)

after reading about tension coil building, i got myself "artistic wire coiling gizmon". need some hardware, but it looks like it will coil very nice from the video.

Not bad - $10ish on amazon. It doesn't seem like it would travel well though, does it? would it fit in my rebuild kit (Altoids tin)?

I like my nearly free cigamajig, design by cigatron, modded/build by me. I modded mine with t-nuts so I can easily use an m4 screw to make tension wraps of ni wire. I think I paid maybe $3 for the screws and t-nuts, which I could use to make several jigs. Clamp one end of the wire to the screw, grab the other end with pliers, then just twist the wood part with your hand while keeping tension with your pliers hand. Tensioned coil done in 10 seconds. You can see my (ugly) version in the comments to cigatron's post I linked to above.
