Thanks all for the great advice! I previously did not know about the GLV2 or Roughstack until now.
Right now they seem like pretty good possibilities.
I have also had my eye on the REO- my brother has one and he loves it. As another poster said though, my only concern about it would be scratching it. My other dilema with REO, would be why not get a Woodvil for alittle more $. Then I would be back to square one looking for something I could use and abuse... Lord knows I wouldn't want to with a Woodvil.

Is it just me or does anybody else think like that? (Why not spend a little more and get something nicer.....)
My Wife hates my thinking like that. I always spend more on something than I originally intended to.

Back to the GLV.... When researching I saw that for an additional amount of money you could get it clearcoated. I'm guessing that would make it stand up to a little more abuse without chipping/scratching no? Or is the clearcoat more just for cosmetic purpose ie glossy look.

Thanks again

The REO Mini in silver anodized is a very tough surface and if you do manage to scratch it, the scratches won't show. Actually, all of the REO metals are highly scratch resistant, except for the polished, which is not anodized.

The suggestion of a GLV2 is excellent because it does come with a lifetime warranty and it very sturdy. But I would get the 5 volt model for the nicer throat hit.

The GLV is all well and good provided a person envoys vaping at 9+ watts.
Sooner or later mod builders will figure out that most vape at about 7-8 watts.

Drop it, toss it, all mechanical, worry free pv? The Copper Q3* from AtmosUSA. That thing is indestructable. I have one and can testify. You can throw it across the alley into a brick wall and it would still keep working. Just bend the carto back into place, if you can.
You could run over it with a tractor and it'd be fine.
You can drop it out of your shirt pocket onto the cement and it will be fine. (just pop the carto back into position).

It is not made out of copper, it's made out of solid brass. Even the endcap is a joy to use, because of the way they threaded it. I love everything about it. They've even made some cool homemade tanks for it with the plunger ring still attached to make it easier to plunge.

Can't go wrong with this mod even if you tried.

Another great one is the Reo Grand. Totally mechanical, lasts all day long and then some (6ml bottle, 18650 batt). But, I would hesitate to test it against a brick wall due to it's price and due to it's sheer beauty. It might stand a test or two, but I'm not going to be the one to do it. The door would probably fall off, and that's about it. Maybe some knicks and scratches. But the body is Airplane Aluminum and should withstand quite a bit of shock. It's not like the Solid BRASS Copper Q3* that will go through any test and still be fine, but it's still a real dandy and should be on everyone's easy to use, all mechanical, list.

While the Woodville is a good PV, it's not the type of mod that I would consider taking out with me. One fall on concrete, and that beautiful wood would probably shatter since it is put together like a mosaic.

The Roughstack is a good, simple mechanical device, but you still need to either drip or use a tank or refill carts/cartos. Since the switch is on the top, you can only use the tank with some sort of large extender.

Especially for being out and about, nothing beats the convenience of a bottom feeder. If it gets a few dings along the way of keeping me away from analogs, so be it!

Actually the Woodvil is carved from a solid block of wood. The door is a separate piece set in a dovetail. While wood is not as durable as anodized aircraft aluminum, and I wouldn't take my burl out and about, I have an Oak Woodvil that has withstood a fair amount of abuse.

With a standard resistence atty, it's not 9+ watts, it's 8.5 watts which is right in the sweet spot of 4.7 to 5 volts. The 5 volt GLV2 is one of most popular mods sold. I'm sure some people prefer little to no throat hit as you do but quite a few of us like a good, consistent throat hit when we vape. That's why so many people buy high end variable volt, regulated power and 5 volt PV's.

just order an RIVA or Ego (or any big batt) kit , they are the easiest IMHO .

    And Welcome to ECF !!

edit... the FS Ego's from mypvshop are cool cuz they have a 650 mAh batt & a 1100mAh batt in kit ,so you get 2 sizes instead of other kits which usually have 2 same size batts.

AND they've got a really low price too!

    Another Vote for the REO!!!

I use my mini all the time when I'm out. Since it's made from aircraft aluminum. It's actually one of the only mods that is basically indestructible. I even seen a member that accidentally ran over theirs with a truck and no real damage was done. What other mod out there can make that claim?

The REO Grand and mini was basically made to be abused and for the worker in mind. If you are interested than please take a look in the REO sub-forum better yet. If you have questions than don't hesitate since there's a LOT of people willing to help out:

    Reos Mods

All in all, you get what you pay for and a REO stands for quality and durability.

    Question,

If you were to get one highly portable, worry-free, fairly inexpensive mod for use in car or at work or out on the town, what would you choose?

In my case my new Phid will stay home and vape with me but I want something I don't have to worry about if it breaks, gets dinged, left on dash etc.

    Any suggestions?

Highly portable and worry free = Reo Grand or Reo Mini. I'm partial to the Grand.

Fairly inexpensive = Shine Mod + tank mod from parkesvaping.com

Lots of different ways you could go, depending on how much you want to spend and how you like to vape.
