There are plenty of good ones now. IMO I would pay at least as much attention to where I got one as I would to which one I got. Seems like some places anymore actually know about mechanicals, while a lot of others just have a few in stock. It's at least nice if the vendor knows what batteries fit in your new mod.

How you intend to use your mechanical can also make a difference. Of those that I have, my Caravela is the best when used as a pure mechanical, but the Nemesis is best when used with a Kick.

I love my Panzer clones (18650 and 26650) but they are heavy to carry around. My Nemesis clone and I have a love-hate relationship but the mechanical I reach for the most is my Smok Magneto. Telescopic mods make battery switching and selection so much easier in my opinion. I can drop in a 18650 and bring a 18350 for backup without having to fiddle with tubes, screws and switches.

"Best" is a subjective term. It will have a different meaning for each individual person.
There is no "best". Most all mech mods can function properly. They are very basic devices.

If you give us more parameters, we can probably recommend the mod that "best" suits your needs and preferences.
Could also do a quick scan across the current topics here on ECF and probably find the answer you seek as there are quite a few identical threads posted in the last week.

I'm always going for my Brass Caravela, it's very smooth.

LOL... I know exactly what you mean, same here.

Pick a design and function you like. There is no "best mechanical clone". You're better off basing your decision on looks, form, and function ... then find the maker of the highest quality clone of that specific mod.

    Exactly
Every manufacturer has their good and a mix of defective. China business practice - Everything Ships - good, bad, defective.
Take the attitude that with a little tinkering you will have a great Mod and likely you will.
    I have about 20 great Mods :D

not the nemesis kick or not unless you like fiddling for a half hour every battery change.

I don't know how you use your kick, but I never has the slightest problem on my kicked nemesises.
Once in the tube i've never needed to fiddle with them, even to change the power.
Are you using a kick clone which might not be wide enough or something ?
IIRC my configuration was main tube + kick ring + 18500 tube, with a 18350 battery. Kick sits on top of the 18500 tube under the top cap, you unscrew the main and 18500 tube to change battery so you don't have to move the kick. You can unscrew the topcap to access the kick power settings.

Purely a question for those who use kicks, no judgement at all. Type can come across poorly, so I wanted to preface this.

Is it for aesthetics that you use a mech? I would certainly understand that, they are beautiful and I can't have enough. Otherwise, why not get a nice regulated mod? Just wondering.

On topic, I would recommend a magnetic switch, and unless you dislike it, copper. And +1 on the stingrays being excellent. I have an hcigar and a tobeco, and the tobeco is vastly superior, smooth out of the box. Stingrays are easy, and they are versatile, you can run a kick in all battery sizes. Funny I say that lol. Also, they are very compact, even in 18650, but with an 18350 you could probably palm it with a kayfun on it, too.

It's more modular, the way you vape changes and evolv (hah !) with time.

For me I had maybe 7 mechs lying around, using drippers, then went into a kayfun phase and fell they behave better at low watts but regulated voltage (i've got a provari also and liked the vape better on it.)

So it made more sense to buy 2 kicks than two other regulated mods (which would have been crappy 33mhz chinese thingies in this price range.)
Then i grew tired of kayfuns and just removed the kicks...
It's kinda nice to have a mech that can also to vw if needed imo, when you're used to mechs it's a pain to use a mvp or whatever, aestetically and otherwise.

It was partly for aesthetics and partly because I thought the Evlov electronics were better than what came in most of the made in China APVs. It's also DC-DC which was a plus.

I personally don't use kicks in my mechanicals but I can see the reasons.

Some people simply like a regulated vape while loving the look and function of a mechanical. Not to mention if the kick would ever die, they still can vape with the mechanical as back up. Once a regulated device dies, you're not going to vape with it unless you mod it.
