Hi Betrock,

I've only been vaping for 2 weeks and know what you are going through. I had taken 2 weeks of reading to finally decide on the Joye 510 when the company I called to order juice ( 40% off!) told me to check out Liberty Flights and use the 20% discount to get a Riva 510 set instead. I think it came to $32 for two ecigs, fast usb charger, wall adapter, and 5 EMPTY cartridges. I mention empty because I had been comparing so many kits from different vendors that when I got mine, I forgot they were empty and just started trying to vape- I couldn't understand why it was so horrible LOL.

You mentioned wanting a pass through: If you get the Riva kit, you probably won't need it. These batteries are larger(thicker) than the regular 510s and last me all day. The battery is not overly big, about the diameter of a chapstick and a bit longer. The shipping with LF is not very expensive so you can also add a few cartomizers ( one uses these instead of the separate atomizer and cartridge.) The most popular seems to be the one called Boge but those were sold out when I checked today but they do have others available.

As to differences between various models, although there may be technical details, for beginners such as us, think of the numbers like Garanimal clothes that you mixed tops and bottoms by making sure they had the same animal on the tag. Anything that says 510 should be interchangeable with anything else, even different brands, that says 510. It mostly has to do with the size and type of the connectors. Plus there are adapters if you want to use a 510 style battery with non 510 atomizers or cartomizers. Just do be careful with the chargers as the one for the larger batteries may not work with the smaller batteries. Keep in mind that most of the additional supplies and accessories are not very expensive so if you can't find a kit that includes everything you want, you can add the extras for minimal costs.

From everything I have read and seen on the vendor sites, the 510 will allow you to grow and try new things such as direct dripping. The Riva 510 has a sealed battery so you don't get juice into it from dripping.

Vixen vapors offers sample packs. I ordered 15 mini 3ml juices from them. If you go on their forum, they may still have the 40% discount. I will suggest that you buy a wide variety of flavors as it is true you may not like the "cigarette/tobacco" flavors. I would also suggest getting some mint, cinnamon and other stronger flavors. Your deadened taste buds may not be able to taste many of the flavors. I had this problem. The stronger flavors were able to cut through the fogginess of my tongue where some lighter flavors just didn't register as much of anything. Someone told me on the chat to brush my tongue with baking soda and it actually does help. Buy a higher nic level as I don't think you get as much nic as you do from a cigarette. Later after you have broken the cig habit, you can start to lower your nic levels.

Don't push yourself to automatically quit smoking. I started by buying one pack a day in the morning instead of two and just made myself reach for the ecig for every other time I wanted a cigarette. Then I began only taking 15 cigs to work with me and will slowly try to bring fewer cigs with me. To be honest, I still need to have a regular cig in the morning and after meals.

At some point you just have to take a leap of faith and buy something. As none of the pieces ( batteries, atomizers, cartomizers) last for more than a few months or so, it won't cost that much to change out to another type once you get into vaping.

Check to see if there are any vaping clubs in Florida ( check social forums) where you can meet other vapers, try different juices and vaporizers.

Glad to have you with us.

Aftter the initial investment, you really will save money over cigs. I have an envelope in which I have been putting $10 every day ( the amount I usually spent on 2pks of cigs) and each time I buy a pack of cigs or more vaping products, I take from this envelope. Already, I have recuperated the initial outlay and have money left over.

There seem to be 2 different kits available(see below), but one says 510 2.0 ohm atomizer, the other says Boge 3.0 ohm Carto.

Carto = 2 piece
Atomizer = 3 piece

If you want to swap flavors, you would be better off with one atomizer per flavor, or cartos.
The lower the ohms, the more power (watts) consumed. (twice voltage over ohms = watts)
2ohm @ 3.7volts = 6.8watts
3ohm @ 3.7volts = 4.6watts

650mah battery @ 3.7v = 2.7watt/hr 2.5/hr @ 2ohm (24min/1 batt) or 1.7/hr (36min/1 batt) @ 3ohm.
1100mah batter @v 3.7 = 4.1watt/hr 1.6/hr @ 2ohm or 1.1/hr @ 3ohm

1 pack @ 3min/cig = 60min, of which 1/3 is actually puffing, so about 20min/day per pack

Simple.

You ask too much on some things. The juices at most good-price multibrand hardware vendors are not great juices, they don't have samples and often not even 5ml sizes, and they are probably not juices you will continue to buy. They are usually Chinese Dekang 100% PG or some mystery US brand. But you buy some some you will have some juice to start.

510 (especially with their longer mega batteries) and KR808D-1 are both good starters -
Comparison:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...st-electronic-cigarette-first-time-vaper.html

The 510 mega batteries have the same length charge as KR8's standard batteries (about 3-5 hours, less if vaped heavily). 510 standard batteries have a shorter 2-3 hour charge (less if vaped heavily). VaporKings.com has a PCC with an adapter that can charge either length 510 battery. I like using the mega batteries with a carto (about 128mm long that way, about 138mm with atty and cart)

I recommend manual batteries. More sealed against death by juice leak because they are not dependent on a drag sensor in the threaded end of the battery, less work, more control of you drags, won't turn on by accident from wind or vibration

My 510 is manual black w/ blue LED
My KR8 is a variety of colors w/ colored Vapor4Life.com batteries and colored cartos and I use a black delrin drip tip as a mouthpiece.
BTW if you want real stealth, Vapor4Life sells camo batteries with no LED.

Good venders for real Joye 510 - Cignot.com, LiteCigUSA.net
Cheapest 510 USB battery charging cables - Vaporleaf.com

At least 2 of the above vendors have standard KR8 stuff, but I usually get all of my KR8 stuff at Vapor4Life.com which is also where the most prefilled cartos are. Prefilled is just a small convenience since you will be adding juice to get several days use out of a carto. A carto does not last as long as a pack of cigarettes - that is a web rebrander lie. But you can get several days or more use out of a carto by adding juice whenever the vapor seems a bit light or a bit dry. Run it dry and singe the stuffing then it becomes trash.

At 2.5 packs a day don't get anything less than a 650mah battery pv. I only smoked 10 cigs a day and the small batteries were far too much trouble. If I were you the ego/riva would be a good start. However I still say an 18650 battery mod like a roughstack from madvapes would be better for you. A $15 passthrough for home and the $50 roughstack or the roughstack with the long extension tube for all day battery life. Replacing 2.5 packs will require something you can puff on constantly for a while. There is a roughstack kit with all you need. I'd grab some low res atty's or 2.5ohm clearomizers and you will be happy. Good luck.

I was 2 pack day smoker Marlboro Men Lights or Reds which ever I felt like smoking. the 1000mah batt on inferno is all I need for outside home use. In home usb passthru that I keep hooked up. If I just use 1000 mah its good from 5:45 am to about 6-7pm for me. I do vape heavily when I am not doing anything especially while driving. I have now perfected my dripping and driving technique. lol

Now we are talking 2.5 packs/day, for simple maths let's just call this a solid hour over 16 hours, or 30min of solid use per 8.

at 2.5ohm (common atomizer size) @ 3.7V, that's 5.5watts.
750mAh battery @ 3.7v = 2.8Wh 2.0 batterys / hour or 30min/battery
Presuming equal rate of consumption 3.75min/hr, a battery swap needs to be done every 8 hrs.
Estimated 2 charges/day.
Recharge time ~3hrs @ 750mAh.

Given 300 charge cycles/battery, two battery/day, expect replacement after 300 days.

Riva 510 kit = 40.48 shipped
Given $30/battery cost per year = $70.69
Presuming 3ml/day @ $1/ml = $1095
Presuming 1 atomizer/month @ $10 each = $120
Presuming 5 blanks/month @ $1.per = $60

$1387.17 per year
$3.80 per day
$1.52 per pack

Obviously e-fluids can be had for less than $1/ml, and I know you can get 1100mAh batteries from Juicy Vapors for $23.99. I tried to pad the numbers "somewhat".

But the short is I estimate 2x 750mAh batteries @ 2.5 ohms meet your present requirement of ~1500mAh/day at one charge per day each.

Thanks everyone for all your help and advice!

Of course, Liberty-Flights sold out of the good Riva kits before I got there. But I hunted around and finally ordered the Riva starter kit, along with a bunch of extras - blank cartos, pre-filled cartos, extra battery, extra atomizer, blank cartridges, and 1 bottle of e-juice.

Probably didn't get the best prices, but I had become obsessed, and had to have it NOW. I think I will start out well prepared to go in any number of vaping directions, depending on what I like and what works, and is the least hassle. Not looking for a new hobby!

Again, my thanks to all who answered my .... collection of questions!

Regards to all,
Betrock

You'll be fine... more than fine, you'll love it! The best thing about the kit you are getting is that the system is so versatile; you can use it with a lot of different vaping methods.

So when your kit comes in:
• put one battery on the charger
• unwrap one atomizer and blow through it like a straw, holding a paper towel to the opposite end (gets the packing fluid out)
• screw the atty onto the battery and add 2-3 drops of e-liquid to the mesh hump that sticks up inside the atty
• unwrap one cartridge and pop that on there
• vape!

You'll need to refill the cartridges about every 20 minutes (ymmv). Every time you "top off" the cart, drip 2-3 drops into the atty again. Here's how to refill the cart:
