hey guys. I'm in new york for a vacation but right when i get back i plan on going to my vape shop and picking up my first rda and some building materials. I definitely want to go with an rda over an RTA because i like switching up flavors and while it is not a main focus i do think cloud chasing is kind of fun. what do you guys recommend as a good first rda? I don't want you guys to just recommend the cheapest, easiest to build RDA because then a couple weeks from now when I'm more knowledgable and advanced I'm going to want to run out and get something nicer. so I'm looking for like a midranged model. i really would prefer one with only 3 connections. price range I'm looking at is 0-50. thanks for any suggestions guys!

RDAs... believe it or not, have a subjective quality to them.. beyond what looks cool, to your eye. They all are very similar in some respects, and quite different in others.
To name but a few... internal cap dimensions, air port "tunability" and the location from which air is drawn, wire hole sizes (useful to know for large wire or multiple coils in parallel), juice deck depth or "pocket" construction... all come into play from either a practical, or subjective standpoint.

If you can "test drive" a few of the more popular RDAs at your local B&M, with preferably the same resistance, coil arrangement, wick material and juice... you may find, for your tastes, a model that stands out above the rest.

If mech mods and RDAs are new to you... there are some things you need to learn, for both your safety as well as those around you - and to obtain best performance from your kit.
To jump-start your education, please click on my second sig line hyperlink - read both the article, and the linked articles found within.

Cheers

I currently have a Nimbus clone and a genuine Vortex dripper. Dripping isn't really suited for my lifestyle, so I don't particularly like either one, however I will say it's easier to mount coils onto the Nimbus as there are holes drilled into the posts, as opposed to wrapping kanthal around screws. The Igo W is an inexpensive option with three posts for dual coil capability and holes drilled into the posts.

I agree with State O' Flux above about trying them out. If you don't have a good B&M nearby or the ability to try a few, the Igo-W is pretty standard and very inexpensive. $11 will get you an idea of what you do and don't like in a 3 post RDA and give you the opportunity to learn and refine your coil building process.

My recommendation would be to get a Patriot. Solid construction. Easy to build. Super quality.
That was my first, and it's still my primary. It's got a nice, wide area for building. The posts are drilled, so I can just run the leads through there and tighten them down without having to thread them around a screw. The bottom is sealed, and unless I leave it laying flat on its side, I've never had it leak.

I have a Tobh. While it's to loose of a draw for me, even in the lowest of air settings, it is a very nice RDA. Quality build, and nice design. Very user friendly, whether your a noob, or a veteran. I'm actually in the process of trying to find and RDA that suits me better. I'd be interested in selling the Tobh. It's very gently used.

Yesterday was a good day for me, as I managed to hang out with a buddy of mine whilest at the local vape shop. He was working on a sub-ohm coil for one of his rda's while I watched ubber fascinated as I've been doing my own protank/evod head coils for a few months now, and expressed an interest in the rda's. He, being the cool dude that he is, showing off his gear hooked me up with a Trident v2 original.. It had seen some usage and had a couple of gnarly tool marks on it but he said it was his first rda and so he wanted to pass it on to a friend.. can you say SCORE? lol.. anyhow, freaking loving it and seriously thinking about scoring me a few more rda's to play with too.. Currently got my eyes on a black patriot to go along with a matching black mechmod. That's where I'm at as a beginning rda'er (new word?).
