hey guys,

i'm looking to get into box mods, so i'm going to get a regulated 30/50/+ watt box mod clone while i save for my reo. yes, i know, clones/ripoffs, but i want to make sure it's definitely for me before i drop a fortune on a VariANT or something.

what would you reccomend? the DNA30 cana modz on fasttech look okay, or is there something else i should check out?

thanks so much for your help!

its funny you should mention the variant I LOVE that mod! I m in the same shoes right now I m not getting my variant (if I can get one) until November. have you bought from fast tech before? have you seen the THE BEAST? Anyway on to your question the DNA30 is a good box to start with in my opinion when it comes to boxes its all about whats inside so find a box that has the specs your looking for what do you plan on putting on top of your box?

Why not avoid the clone altogether? I personally have nothing against them but I understand why some folks do. I have something against the variant. Its impossible to find and if you do find one, it'll sell for easily twice the retail price.
Pioneer 4 you makes the ipv box mods. They're not clones and the 50w version can be had for around 100 bucks.
VaporShark makes some excellent DNA 30 devices for well under 200. 15% off regular retail ($169 & $189) thru Sunday using "shark week" for your discount code. These are authentic Evolv dna30 chips.
Or the Cana's are ok.

thanks guys, yeah i just assumed that all good modern box mods cost a fortune based off the hana modz (to whom i would never give my money) but the ipv2 seems really inexpensive and top quality!

I am highly considering one as well. I looked at the Hana but it seems pretty expensive. I like the way it looks and feels but the IPV2 is awesome as well. A friend of mine is picking one up this weekend so I will probably wait to decide.

Why do you say you will never give your money to Hana? Just curious as I am new here and am interested in your opinion.

i'm in no way an expert and i didn't follow these stories as they were happening or anything, but as far as i can tell there were two main issues - one involved a bunch of paying customers waiting months and months for their mod without much explanation while other customers were happily puffing away on theirs, and the other is that hana modz sued some cloners. google "hana modz lawsuit", interesting reading.

the obvious disclaimer needs to be stated that this is all just hearsay and me regurgitating stories, i'm not trying to grind out the brand or anything (although saying that seems triflingly defensive considering that's kind of what i'm doing) but i'm just not personally comfortable with buying a legit hana. i've read that they're a fantastic and solid device though.

I think mostly the DNA's are cloned. You can find the ipv2 or sigelei 50w for $80-$110. These both use the same sx330 v2 chip I believe and a single 18650 battery. The ipv3 and sigelei 100w both use the sx330 v3 chip i believe. These use 2 batteries. Not sure about the pricing of those 2 devices, I have the sigelei 100w on pre order for $99.99 and I think I saw the ipv3 on pre order for around 145.

In my opinion these vw mods are the best bang for your buck currently. I only opted for the 100w for dual batteries. I don't see myself ever going over 35w.

I got the Pioneer4you IPV2 in the mail Wednesday. I'm very happy with it. It vapes great with my Kayfon Nano. Now I can build lower than 1.5 ohms (was using with a Z Max before) I believe the ohm limit is .3 up to 3ohms. I also tried sub ohms .35 on 50watts, it fired up as well as a mechanical mod with a freshly charged battery. I prefer it for the kayfons. There's nothing like the feeling of hitting that bottom button on a good mechanical and hearing that hissing and blowing those clouds even though you can do it with the box mod it doesn't seem the same. So I'm keeping my mechanicals but this box was a great buy for 94.00. Its available and on sail at Mad vapes and also at Vapor DNA. Also its very easy to use and simple.

Raptor, SuperMax, Beast, lots of entries to choose from. Raptor looks promising. dna like with 100 watt max output. Should be hitting the states any week now.

Finding them is the hard part, then the wait, since most are either preorder, or notify me when available. Like the Max, have a Raptor on order, and waiting for notification on the 200 watt Beast.

The cana modz is nice, but at 30 watts max, tis a bit timid:D

I am so confused. Even DIY enclosures for dna chips have a squonk window. Does that mean the dna chips are only for bottom feed or what? I just want a gripper substitute that does not weigh a pound and does not fall apart either. One 18650 is fine for me, I never vape over 10 watts, and I want to use a tank. And the Mad Vapes box mods smush the buttons on my batteries. What can I get? 18650 tube mods are too top-heavy for me, 18350 tube mods don't have battery life, and the only 18500 tube mods I could find are mechanicals. And I don't know how to solder. How hard can it be?

I ordered a VaporShark rDNA. In fact it shipped today. Small form factor, replaceable 18650, well built and uses a real eVOLV dna30 chip set.

They have Shark Skins in many colors to dress them up too. I bought a gunmetal grey one with a black and a purple Shark Skin to go with it :)

How well to "skins" hold up? Just curious. The concept reminds me of covering things with contact paper, which always ends up looking pretty ratty pretty soon. But I've not tried "skins" on anything lately.
