Hey guys I've been coming a long way since my first post of this topic (at the time I had simple dse epipe and some egos) I've went from clearomizers to vivi novas, then vivi novas on my mods like vamo and sigelei v3. Last week started rebuilding the vivi nova and clearomizer heads and recently just ordered my first rba. Can't wait as this is such a fun hobby for me that does not involve tobacco cigs! Mechanicals here I come....someday.....when I have more money.....And confidence lol

So I should be getting my rba soon but before I do anything I wanted to ask if my device says it has short protection does that mean if I screw up it will just give me an error no battery explosion

Otherwise I have a multi meter should I just use that?

I have sigelie zmax v2 and v3 and a vamo v1

If its protected by a "hotspring" then the hotspring will blow before the batt does. You would need to replace it if it does. I don't recommend a hotspring when using high power :p That multimeter is a must. And a good Ohms/watts law calculator. Find out what your battery's max amp draw is.

Ok got my rsst and have been fiddling with it. I'm getting the hang of it! Few questions.

How do you know when you should change the wick/wire

If you need to change one should you change both the wick and wire?

Say the wire breaks with juice in it and a new wick. Do you start completely over or just wrap a new wire? If so how do you find the hot spots?

Lastly is I have been using regulated mods why would I want to change someday to mechs. For sub ohm high voltage? Or?

Mostly trial and error. You can get away with just changing the wick, but depending on how tight you wrap it, it may be really difficult thread a new wick in. I usually just do both.

Wrap a new wire. The old wire will have bends that are more likely to create hot spots. And hot spots can be found using a dry burn if you're using silica wick.

Most regulated mods won't fire below 1.3ohms resistance, so yeah.

But one big warning about using mech's is to really know what you're doing.

For example, a 0.5ohm coil at 3.7v pushes 7.4A of current and 27.3W of power. An AW IMR 18650 (2000mAh rated at 5c) should be able to handle that load.

Make sure you understand those last 2 sentences completely before trying to use a sub-ohm mechanical.

Happy vaping. :)

Vg juice in a low ohm high voltage set up. Might taste bad though

Yeah, that's my problem with 100% VG. To be fair, I've only tried it twice. They were both *awful*. The flavor was just... acrid. I couldn't taste the advertised flavor, it was just harsh. Really harsh. Bad.

Perhaps it was just bad luck and two bad juices. I don't know. I am however hesitant to try it again. 60/40 or 70/30 is fine for me.

It's hard to answer this question because we don't know what you're expecting. What is your setup like right now?

Not planning on getting into mechs any time soon but when I do I'll make sure I research more.

Finding hot spots when your coil breaks shortly after making it but when it still has juice in the tank and has a mesh wick is what I should have said

So say I make everything and it starts working great. boom my wire breaks or begins to crap out with a full tank and a good wick still.?

That's actually a bit harder to troubleshoot as I have rarely run into something like that. The last time that I can remember was when the coil moved a bit during vaping and caused a hot spot right where the leg goes into the loop. It cause that part to get really brittle and break. Other than, most of the coils I've done have been good.

I know for a fact that v3 has short protection as I had 3 out of 5 bad coils in a box. The display shows LOW VOL if I remember right.
