So I have been trying to rebuild this tank for a few days with little luck until last night!!! My builds always worked well for about an hour and then would start getting dry hits and burn the cotton… I followed rip trippers video, but had my own problems with the rebuild. Well after trying to break down a head and destroying it I decided if wicking was the problem I should drill holes in it… well I got way to much juice and it was flooding… This led me to drilling through the whole thing.
-I started by drilling through with a 3/32 drill bit on the original juice feeding holes.
-Next I made a micro coil wrapped around an 18 gauge needle I used 6 wraps and got 1ohm
- next I stuck the coil through the bottom and stuck the 18 gauge needle through the holes to catch and hold the coil in place.
-Put the head back together at this point
- After that I twist up cotton and put it in the end of the needle and pull the needle out to get the cotton through the coil
-Pull your cotton through and clip it so couple millimeters are sticking out on both sides.
-Put 2 drops of liquid on the coil and a little on the cotton that is sticking out the sides to prime it.
-Put together and make sure u have no shorts
-enjoy!

This puts out sooooo much vapor and flavor. It also works extremely well and is easy to rewick when you want to rewick you wont have to rebuild...

If you have any question hit me up... Im trying to get rip trippers to make a video for me!

Interesting.

I would appreciate some more pics as I myself am more of a visual learner. I understand it all but am a bit confused in how you get the cotton through the coil.

I would love to do this build though. I've tried Riptrippers way twice now with no success, despite me making perfect microcoils for the Kanger tanks. I just can't get the thing to wick properly. Get barely any vapour and very poor taste.

Pull your cotton through so u have some nice fluffy stuff on both sides

trim your cotton

Check you ohm's and see if you have shorts

Test fire and enjoy!

I prefer the lower ohms like 1 or 1.1 so i can run this on my nemmy and get big clouds! you can build it for whatever ohm you want... Really easy to do if you have a drill and this makes it really easy to change out the wick... I have had no problems with this and I am on tank number 2... So I try it out guy!

Yea I am a visual learner as well that's why i wanted to post more pics for people... I was having the same problem with the rip trippers build... My wick would get dry and burn and i would have to rebuild. I am going to school to be an engineer so I figured i would rip this coil apart and make it easier to rebuild and it was very successful so i wanted to share it with the rest of my fellow vapors! The nautilus is reborn and it kicks ...!

Thanks a lot. Easy to follow now.

I don't have an 18 gauge needle but have drill bits so I'll see if I can do it that way. Or try and find something else.

It does seem like it will work much more efficiently. I think half the problem with the Nautilus is the feed holes, they just don't supply adequate juice.

When I first got the Nautilus it worked like an absolute dream, the two supplied heads were great. I've since brought two more heads and neither have worked. Put them in and prime it, let it sit for 10 minutes, works great, for about 5-10 puffs. After that the wick just gets bone dry. The only way I can get a good vape is to prime the coil. if I just let the head sit in the tank, it just doesn't wick.

So at the moment I'm using my T3S with microcil cotton. Works great. But it looks silly on my Z Max. I want the 22mm diameter of the Nautilus.

I'll try this method and fingers crossed it works. Just not sure how I'll get the cotton through the coil without an 18 gauge needle. maybe a toothpick?

Hook the tip of the cotton to a piece of Kanthal wire and pull it through that way... that should work well for you!

Just imagine what a needle threader looks like. You know those tools with a diamond shaped piece of wire to help thread a neede. You want to imitate that. A V-shaped bit of wire to capture a bit of the cotton, both ends of the wire through the coil, tug gently to pull the cotton through.

I can confirm this works, and very well.

For the first time since my original two heads died my Nautilus is actually working. No more dry hits and nearly zero vapour production like I was getting with subsequent heads I brought.

It was very easy to do as well. Instead of using a needle to thread the cotton all I did was put in the coil through the bottom and lined it up with the drilled holes. Inserted a 1/16 drill bit to hold it in place, put it all back together, took out the drill bit and threaded the cotton through the drilled holes and coil.

Getting great flavour. Not as much vapour as I expected but I think I may have made the cotton wick a little thick.

Still it works great. Would like to thank you very much for this. Finally my Zmax looks the beast it is.

Gonna have to try this build again...all 3 stopped working on me after about 1/2 a day. Was getting dry hits and they shorted out. They were working great at first. Oh well, I'll get it...I'm determined!!! BTW, using 28 gauge Kanthal, wrapping with an Artistic Coiling Gizmo (1.5mm coil). I get great results at first, but then the rebuild just stops working. I'm vaping with an Innokin iTaste. Any suggestions??

I will definitely try this. My Nautilus has been gathering dust due to lousy performance. A quick question: do you remove all (or some of) the stock packing material to facilitate dry burning? Seems like your approach would eliminate the need for the packing?

If you have any question hit me up... Im trying to get rip trippers to make a video for me!

Make sure your coils are centered when u put it back together to stop the shorting... also if ur getting dry hits ur using too much cotton...

I take everything out... there is some stuff that looks like paper towel, a cup, the wick, and some coils... its all garbage!

Well, I tried it. Since I use a 5/64" bit shank to wind my coils, I decided to drill the body out using a 5/64" bit. My standard compressed coil is 9 wraps of 30 AWG Kanthal which yields 2.1 to 2.2 ohms resistance. The coil fits with room to spare and is performing very well. I've vaped a couple of tanks now with no leaks, gurgles or spitting. At 6 watts, the vapor cloud and flavor are huge compared to the stock Aspire coils. One thing to be careful of: When the coil body is tightened down in the base, the center pin tends to rotate which will skew the coil. Be aware of the short potential when snugging down the coil body. Other than that, this is working like a charm and has breathed new life into my Nautilus. I'd recommend this approach to anyone who is less than thrilled with their Nautilus performance!

Just a quick update. After about 10 refills, a couple of dry burns and cotton rewicks my Nautilus rocks the way it should have right out of the box. Flavor is full, vapor plentiful and TH superb. Suffice it say, at <$0.05 to rebuild the coil, I won't be further investing in Aspire replacement coils. Many thanks to effinrob for presenting this idea.
