Riva 510 (LF 3.7-4.2) with LR Attys.

I usually drip nowadays, but use carts on my little 510 Joye or on my Riva when I'm out for a bit.

Question is; it seems like my fruity flavors (the more clear ones) wick better in the carts than my darker liquids, like coffe and tab flavors. Is this in my head or real? I can use a cart with peach or punch or cotton candy for what seems like hours. But my coffee and RY4 seem to get bland after 3 or 4 draws.

I was thinking that even though they are the same ratio's from the same vendors, maybe te colorigs and flavors add viscosity.

Thanks for the input!

Hi Colonel,

You are pretty much right. It is primarily viscosity that influences wicking. Different companies will have different viscosities of their juices. VG is thicker than PG, and some flavorings (as opposed to flavored juices) will use as a carrier liquid PG, VG, ethanol, or water, each having its own viscosity. Formulation of the juice base can be all PG, all VG, or a mix of the two. VaporGalaxy's VG juices are unthinned...great for dripping and so yummy, but can be too thick for carts or cartomizers. Vaperite's VG juices are thinner, as Todd adds some water to them, and they are great in a cart or carto.

You can tilt the bottles and look at the juice flow to get a good idea of viscosity. A juice good for cartos or cart will flow just a bit slower than water. Thick juices will be slower and more syrupy. If you have a 3 mL bottle, like a sample bottle, you can put some of the thick juice in it and add drops of water until the viscosity is better. I would say no more than 10% water in the final juice, maybe less.

Dark colored juices, especially tobaccos, do have a reputation for clogging attys and not wicking well. I don't know if it is the color itself, as my chocolate juices I make are fine about not clogging and good wicking, or the higher particulate matter of tobaccos in general. My guess is if you thin them a bit with water, or perhaps 5% vodka or PGA, they will work well for you.
