Hello All, I have been smoking for 40+ years, just went to Marlboro Light 100s as I was smoking 3+ PAD of the regular lites. I am down to 2.5 PAD with the 100s. I have quit several times, first time was with the gum, was quit for 3 months, but gained 15lbs, started again because I was afraid of getting Diabetes, too late! Last time I quit was with the hospital method, as in I was in the hospital (s) for three months. Quit and lost 100lbs at the same time! Of course it didn't stick because I was mostly unconscious, and I died, kidneys, heart and lungs quit working. I was jump started back to life and here I am. Tried quitting last Monday but consumed too much food, those scratch made chicken & dumplings were just too tasty. Started back when I realized at that rate I would be dead in six months. So here I am, with some hope that I can quit smoking with e-cigs and not die soon. I am currently spending about 370 dollars a month for cigaretts, so advice as what e-cigs to buy would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Neal

Oh my gosh Shiney, I am so happy you found us. Get ready I'm a slow typer but your gonna get a tons of responses. I am so sorry for your health issues, it's truly scary.

First of all let me say Don't look at this right now as a quit. Tell yourself your only changing brands. The key is not to get your self stressed out and panicked before you even start. This Will be a different experience for you. There is hope :)

Secondly your a heavy smoker so put anything out of your mind that even resembles a cigarette......It wont be enough for you. Since you said you spend $370 now on cigs you can start off with a great set up for less than 1/2 that price and it will last you for a few months with only ejuice and Carto/Attys to replace after that.....under $50 a month

I'm thinking a higher voltage would be a good start for you but will let other help there.

Oh good luck, and remember that we all have your back here. You have found a wonderful knowledgeable community!

Hi Shiney and welcome to ECF. I'm also thinking you'll need a Mod at 3.7 Volts. It all depends on how much you can afford. Mods run anywhere from $50- $300.00. Before vaping I tried everything under the sun to quit and nothing worked. 40+ yrs 1 PAD very strong analogs and today, thanks to vaping, I'm analog free for almost 10 weeks.

Depending on your budget, you might want to start simple. Here is what I use:

Ego 900 mah battery
Boge 2.0 cartomizers

For Marlboro light, try Tampa, 24mg juice from VaporStation

Check online and on this site for how to fill your cartos.

Generally, you want to go easy and learn at first. While a variable voltage or high voltage mod might be more satisfying, you also have to learn about the right batteries, wattage, ohms, etc or you might get frustrated and give up.

Yes I would say start small and work up cos there is a learning curve. And its ok to smoke and vape(not at the same time) so dont feel like you have to give cigarettes up immediately you buy your personal vaporiser. Do it gentle and it will eventually come naturally. I was lucky enough to realise after 2 cigarettes and vaping that I didnt want to smoke ever again. it may take you longer.
I would suggest that you find an outlet you can visit to discuss person to person. Totally Wicked for instance is one I know of but am in the UK so wouldnt know too much about US vendors.

best of luck anyway and keep us updated.

Regards Andy

I've been smoking for 15+ years, 1.5 packs a day, tried to quit with diff. methods, it did not work. I bought an e-cig a week ago, and although I'm not happy with it at all (check my thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...y-horrible-first-time-experience-help-me.html), I see that I can totally replace cigarettes with an e-cig. I did not buy any real cigarettes since I got the e-cig. And it's not even hard. It's amazing, I did not expect that.

Okay guys & gals I bought an ego T mega, 2 batts 5 atomizers, and they only had tobacco flavor during that time of day. I am now out of analogs and cannot get a satisfying drag off of this thing. I have to put three drops in there to get any kind of smoke. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Not quite sure as to how you're trying to use your eGo. It's a tank type PV so you should be able to fill the tank and vape away.

If you're still having problems with the vapor/etc of this E-cig, I would suggest finding a forum on here that goes into detail about this specific model. Not being condescending or anything. The reason I say this is because I am a new "vaper" myself and I have the 510... After reading a forum about it on here, I realized that I wasn't do it right. It my particular case, you're supposed to add a lot of drops to the filler for the first use, then top it off with a couple drops after it's low. I only added a few drops to begin with. After that, if you still don't like it/etc you may want to look into getting a diff model. Not all E-cigs are created equally, just like regular cigs. You have to find the one you like.

Hey Shiney, congrats on your efforts to get off the 'coffin nails', and from your original post, just in the nick of time.

You're not doing anything wrong - what you are doing is called 'dripping', and putting in 3-4 drops should get you about 5-6 good drags of 'vapor' (not smoke).

Do you know if the atomizers you bought are low resistance or standard resistance? With a small 3.7v device like the Ego T, you really need low resistance to get a satisfying vape.

I also always recommend cartomizers over atomizers for people just starting out. Cartomizers are like an atomizer and a cartridge with filler all in one. You fill up the 'carto' with juice and they can last you a good long while before you have to re-fill. I use the Ressurectors from Crystal Clear Vaping - Crystal Clear Vaping - these are 'XL' cartos so they can hold more juice (around 40-70 drops depending on how big your drops are) and are 1.7ohms (low resistance for more vapor, more throat hit, and a bit more warmth to the vapor). CCV has the best deal on XL LR cartos around.

Next, I've never owned an Ego T, but have read a bit about them here on ECF - there are more highly recommended kits for beginners, such as the E-Power (search for reviews). And, then there's the mods - bottom feeders, variable voltage, high voltage, carto tanks, etc. etc. etc. - I won't get into that here unless you want to. ;-) But, in my opinion, with your smoking habit and budget, you should be using a big battery mod with LR cartos. Check out some reviews of the Silver Bullet. You're gonna have a hard time finding a satisfying vape with the smaller devices - the only thing that satisfies me is a big battery mod.

EDIT: I just realized that the Ego T has a tank, so dripping is probably not the way to go. Like I said, I'm not familiar with that particular model.

Shiney, i have an ego tank also. You just need to fill the tank, put it in the atomizer, the little pin in there will ..... the tank and the juice should flow. You bought 5 atomizers? Are they all ego T atomizers? I think you have a good battery to start with but many people get frustrated with the tank system and go to cartomizers instead.

This will be very different from gum or patches. You will enjoy this.

I agree - if you smoke that much then a slim model is not going to have enough charge but if you really want slim go for the strongest ones which are Vapor4Life manuals (3.7v) and make sure you get ones with 10-13 second cutoff so you can take long drags. Press the button in 1-2 seconds early so nice vapor is waiting, drag slowly, let the button up just before the end of your drag, inhale. You could also Look at SmokelessImage Volt which has the benefit of 40mah more charge per size (and I recommend standard/78mm size for 120mm ecig). Their manuals are also more sealed against damage by leaks but they have a 5-second cutoff so with my one Volt battery I limit my early press to 1 second early. A manual of eaither can use a standard resistance DSE901 atomizer and drip tip for testing juices.

As for big models - I agree - a Joye Ego is a solid choice, as are Kgo and Riva 510. These are 510-threaded and arrive as 3-pieces but most do their everyday vaping with cartomizers (a 2-piece setup). There are few decent prefilled cartomizers for 510 threading so I recommend learning to use Boge cartomizers first and I recommend 80PG/20VG juice or around there.

Liberty-Flights.com is a good place to shop for Ego or Riva 510 and press the 20% off upper left front page first, then shop at the reduced prices. When they are out of Boge cartomizers I get them at LiteCigUSA.net or NiteLiteVapor.us or Crystal Clear Vaping. Buy at least 40ml of juice to start and a drip tip for testing juices on the atomizer (and some like to vape that way at home). If you keep cartomizers damp you should be able to get 4-7 days use out of each with thin clear juices if you are a heavy vaper. I get 7-10 days use.

Re filling -
atomizer + cartridge: until the cartridge looks damp but not a puddle (not the best way to vape - cartridge may dump 1/2 its juice with no warning, but ok for learning to vape)

atomizer + drip tip: about 3-4 drops and wait for it to soak down, then maybe 2 more as needed.

cartomizer - fill to capacity while blocking the threaded end hole. clean up. Then settle by laying on different sides and standing on threaded end for a combined total of 15-20 minute (that's all thin juices usually need to dampen every bit of stuffing). The while vaping keep it damp. Many use a plastic or delrin drip tip as a mouthpiece - easy to remove to check the stuffing or add juice.

As a lights smoker I recommend you include 16-18mg juice in the strengths you try.

Seriously, don't give up just yet. There definitely is a period of adjustment, as well. I had to burn away excess build-up on my atty's before I got a good punch.

By that, I mean, take the cartridge out. Face the atty towards you - attached to the battery - so you can see inside. Press the button until you see a faint glowing orange - then release. I blew in mine to clear the vapor and repeated this 8-9 times until the orange glow showed up within a second or so.

I then dripped 2 drops, replaced the cartridge and after a few more draws I started getting some really good vapor production. Enough to make me cough.

I'm a noop myself, so vets feel free to chime in is this is bad advice, but it worked really well on my new ego setup.

***EDIT***
Just realized you have a tank system. If that's the case, this may not apply.

First off welcome.

Don't worry about quitting all at once. Vaping might take a while to get used to. Don't give up on it so soon, and realize that it is not going to be exactly like smoking.

I'm using an eGo-t too. Pry the end off the tank and fill it up, put the rubbery end back on. Take a few draws on it without firing the battery. Press the button about 2 seconds before you take a drag, and let up on it a second or two before you stop taking a drag.

If you're using a carto fill it up so it's almost flooded looking, let it sit 30 sec to a minute, wipe the ends off with a paper towel. Fire the thing up like described above. "Flood" the carto when you first fill it and just drip to top it off.

Don't get discouraged, there is a learning curve and all of us go through it.

Hi Shiney;

I am sorry to hear about your troubles, I hope you are doing okay now.

Don't give up on e-cigs just yet. I think you need something bigger, a tube mod that takes rechargable batteries. I have similar smoking experience, been smoking for about 35 years. The smaller ecigs were not enough for me. I needed something bigger. There are some very expensive mods out there, but you can try something not too expensive first to get a feel for what you like.

I found this helped me after I tried the regular stick mods:

Maxi RoughStack V2 Kit

I found I liked the bigger batteries, two 18350's, and some 5 ohm cartromizers - here:

Smok Tech 5 ohm 510 Cartomizer Single

Better than the ones that come with this kit, so you could just piece it together your way, not buy the kit. Just the Maxi Rough Stack, batteries, chargers, cartomizers, and some eliquid.

There may be even less expensive alternatives to this to get you started at higher voltage (higher voltage equals more "smoke" or vapor as we call it, and is closer to really smoking), but I don't know what they are. Hopefully, someone can come along with any suggestions. Keep in mind this model will not last forever, but will get you started on a level closer to smoking a lot and for many years.

Good luck, and hang in there! With the right stuff you can do it too! :)
