FDA and other organziations looking to ban PV's from the market all have one common complaint:

"Electronic Cigarettes are Marketed Towards Adolescents"

However, why is it I still find several advertisements for traditional tobacco cigarettes everywhere I go? Sure, it's not on t.v. or in magazines. But go to your local gas station. How many ads are marketed towards adolescents-even STILL?

Everyday day, on my way to work, there is a great big sign at the local gas station advertising this:

"Newport RED...PLEASURE! Tastes even BETTER in RED".

HOW IS THIS NOT APPEALING TO TEENS? OR THE GENERAL PUBLIC?

Yet it still amazes me the tremdous efforts the FDA and some other organzations put into arguemejnts about ecig ads.

Is it just me here?

Just food for thought...

That's the power of a billion dollar industry, I guess. Personally, I never really got some of the FDA's accusations that cigarette companies themselves marketed to kids. They would come up with stuff like saying cherry flavors and menthol is designed to appeal to kids, as if adults have no use for anything but the harshest, blandest flavors. Joe Camel...I mean, I see where they're coming from, but I doubt even one child was influenced to smoke cigarettes because of Joe Camel. Anyway, as much as it may seem like a double standard, cigarette companies are becoming more and more marginalized by the day and I wouldn't be surprised if saw an outright ban on any advertising in the future.

As for E-cigs, I find the "marketing to minors" claim even harder to understand. What is the evidence?

I kinda view it as Big tobacco being the older more bada$$ in town. He's been here for awhile and he just does what he wants. The people don't really like him, but they realize they can do little to stop him anymore, so he lives amongst the people.

E-cig, on the other hand, he's the new kid on the block. Unfortunately for E-cig, he's associated with Big Tobacco in the eyes of the people (kinda like distant cousins who don't talk). Since the people think that E-cig is as bad as Big Tobacco, they are going to do their best to run him out of town before he can get a foothold. Nothing E-cig can do is right in the eyes of the people. He will be automatically villainized and nothing is does will be considered right.

As far as advertising goes, Big Tobacco has had some restrictions; but they still have plenty of ads posted in other spots. I honestly think that some people think it's a lost cause when it comes to restricting BT anymore. Their new target is the E-cig industry. Any ads created by E-cigs will be deemed as evil and what better way to make them seem evil...they must be targeting our kids!!!!!

Human perception is a funny thing. Sorry if the analogy sucks.

I take a much bigger issue with alcohol advertisement which IS on TV and certainly appeals to minors.

I have to agree with you there. When I was a kid I was way more interested in drinking than smoking and vaping would have sounded like drugs to me so I would have stayed away. But drinking seemed to be the social acceptable thing to do. I have since discovered I detest alcohol and rarely ever consume it lol.

Well, my company banned "tobacco products" from the premises. I submitted a question to the higher ups at a meeting as to what their policy will be on electronic cigarettes. Everyone in the room laughed their ... off. Fortunately no one takes us seriously...yet. And I hope e-cigs are not classified as a "tobacco product". I wouldn't be able to vape at work.

It's a combination of a few different things:

1. Big Tobacco is content on what they have. They have invested way too much money over way too long of a time to even consider switching.
2. FDA is clearly swayed by Big Tobacco. It's painfully obvious due to the fact that tests have been made, and it was clear that E-cigs are a safer alternative.
3. Your bosses, neighbors, co-workers, and people in general, are afraid of things by default that they do not know of.

I said it in the beginning, and stay by my word - If E-cigs are to make it, it'll take a large, well-funded company to not just manufacture them, but lobby them just as analogs are.

The gov makes trillions on tobacco tax and 0 with e-cigs. If they would get tax from e-cigs they would most likely have no issue with it. Why do you think they allow millions of people to die from alcohol addiction? because they make money with it. Tell ya right now if they would get taxes from weed they would welcome that with open arms.

Money=power
E-cig= useless for them.

I'm seriously sick and tired of this whole battle. Just let me f:censored:g vape. Tax me. I don't care if you want money out of it. I want to vape. Tell me that it can pose a danger to me. So can painting your nails in a non-ventilated area. I don't care. I want to VAPE. Tell me that there are other "means to quit", while I explain why they didn't work for me. I tried, and I found a way that works for ME. I want to vape. Tell me that I'm not taking my life seriously. How is the consumption of alcohol, painkillers, and other prescription pills (with side-effects MUCH worse than the actual condition at times) safe? How is smoking cigarettes safe? I don't care, I want to vape. Tell me that the ads are targeted to kids. Then take down the stupid ads and while you're at it, take down the Ads for cigarettes and alcohol, just in case you actually CARE for children. I WANT TO VAPE!

Um. Yeah, sorry about that, haha. :vapor:

The FDA will do anything to try to get ecigs banned simply because they can't profit off of them. Their claims of it appealing to young people is their lame attempt at stopping them. If this is the case, then why did most of us start smoking around the ages that we did? Was it appealing, no...most of us started due to peer pressure or thinking that it was cool to do. Most minors can't afford to buy ecigs...good luck FDA in your sorry attempt to use minors in your plot.

As a parent I can see why people would think sweet strawberry flavored nicotine would look good to a kid.

Kids are going to do stuff whether it us legal or not. ( I sure didn't care if things i did were legal when I was a teen)

We are in a society that recalls frozen pizza because it does not list wheat as a possible allergen (true story). A lot of people want to ban things to protect people, when people should use their best jugdement.

Here is a line from a movie that reminds me of this situation.

Then again, hookah, which is tobacco, comes in many different flavors. There are plenty of hookah lounges located in my area. That is legal. Those who consider themselves, "non-smokers" use hookah just for different flavors. Why is that okay and not ejuice flavors not? That is a good arguement for someone to mention (perhaps me) to their senator/assemblyman/etc when question of banning ecigs comes up.

more food for thought....

Have you need down the vodka aisle at a liquor store lately? All those fruit flavors and not a peep about marketing to kids. It's not like those flavors have no appeal for adults.

Do I like it? No. Do I want them to ban flavored vodka? No.

Vaping is scary to people so they will find any reason to decide it is bad. Everyone knows what vodka is.

It has more to do with "I don't like that you do that" than "Think of the children!". Anything that is politically motivated, where a person has a specific agenda... in this case banning anything considered addictive has wording such as this to make it pull at the heart strings of the majority. Alcohol and tobacco are treated differently since they have a long history in human culture and a large portion of the population uses them. Though they have recently banned flavored cigarettes in the USA with this same backwards logic.

Vaporizers on the other hand don't, but are gaining traction. Banning them outright would be too difficult, so they instead look for other ways such as bogus studies, misinterpretation of statistics, corruption of children... something that invokes emotional responses in people. Flavors of course are a good target, because like the posters before me stated... only kids like flavored stuff.

As a side note, my daily juice is a blueberry muffin flavor... I must be a kid.
