Bitter, nasty taste in my mouth.

So, it started last night.

I bought a Vortex (ego/riva) a little over a week ago, and I've loved it.

Flavors were nice and vivid, gave me the fix I needed, it was great.

Since last night, I've had this absolutely terrible, bitter taste in my mouth. vaping just doesn't taste good anymore. Infact, I can't taste any of my liquids at all. (Maybe just a little bit).

I'm not sick, and I feel perfectly fine.

I've brushed atleast 3 times today (and 3 times yesterday), and I've used mouthwash a couple of times a day as well. I even tried altoids (which helped for a few minutes), but the bad taste is back.

All my juices are a pg/vg blend (the "Essence" line from eliquidplanet).


I vape either 16mg or 24mg juice.

How can I get rid of this taste?

It's almost kind of acidic, but it doesn't affect the taste of food or anything.

Luckily for you and the rest of the humans, taste buds re-generate every 3 days.
We all lost flavor in the first few weeks of vaping, you'll get it back.

Have you been using cartos? I'm thinking that the carto taste has wore off by now and you're experiencing the new taste of the vortex. I've only tried one clearo and it had that metallicly taste that the attys do.
Do you have an old atty around to see if the taste is similar?

I've been using regular carts with the straw mod, and I even did a hybrid on one cartridge combining the RSP and straw mod together.

I have one carto right now which doesn't seem to give me any foul taste, but it's still there. Vapes beautifully though.

I'm getting that taste with my atty no matter how wet I keep it.

Have to try a clearomizer one of these days though, those look awesome.

Nah, it's a pretty old atty, almost 2 weeks.

Been blown out and cleaned using the highping method often as well.

I just got isopropyl alcohol, so I'll try giving it a bath in that.

Be sure to rinse that IPA out with warm water. Its not clear to me if you are experiencing bitter vapor, or a residual taste in your mouth, like morning breath. If that is the case, perhaps your mouth is too dry from PG. Lots of people here cannot do PG at all, as it dries them out too much. Sure does me.

If it is the vapor itself, yes, an atty cleaning could be in order. Or it could also be that you are not keeping the atty wet enough, and getting the dry atty taste...bitter, burny, yuck. Carts are notorious for not wicking enough juice to the bridge. Try just dripping a few drops directly on the bridge and vaping that. Most use a drip tip, but an empty cart works too. If it that vape tastes good to you, and the atty is clean, this is probably your problem.

yea might be the PG. I can do pg but it the after taste is what gets me for some reason. This weird taste on the tip of tongue. So switch to full on vg nic and that solved it.

It's morning breath pretty much, the vapor (would) taste fine if it didn't leave that bad taste in my mouth :/

I cleaned out the atty with iso 91, rinsed with warm water, a hell of alot of gunk was cleaned out too.

Hi SilentEcho. I struggled with that awful taste for at least a month before I solved it after reading a few posts on ECF like this one http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/69834-my-atty-resurrection-method.html (thanks highping). The problem is down to two factors- a burnt wick (which happens if you don't keep the wick wet enough, though you say you've done this) and secondly congealed and burnt e-liquid build-up on and around the coil. I used to find that I would start getting that taste after about 2-3 days of vaping on the same atty no matter how much I washed it, and dewicking didn't help on its own. The only way I have found to really solve the issue satisfactorily is to dry burn, as explained above - this really cleans the atty and the tons of (real) smoke that come off during the process will confirm your suspicions as to the origins of the bad taste

If you can't see the coil properly while dry burning then try debridging first (but only on an older atty that you are happy to practice on)-here is a vid I did recently - YouTube - ‪Easy Pipescreen Atomizer Mod for 510 Atties! Longer Vaping, Less Dripping!‬‏ check the description and u will find two other links which explain in detail the debridging process. Removing the bridge will allow you to see when the coil glows bright. Otherwise just carry on as usual but be careful the coil doesnt get too hot while you are dry burning.

Just a couple of bits of my own advice- once you have done the first dry burn, use a soft thin brush to gently remove dry ash deposited on the coil - this will make it harder for more gunk to settle on it later. Secondly, be really careful when you test the renewed atty for the first time after you're done: it will burn so hot that unless the atty is really well soaked it may pop, so make sure youve loaded it up and soaked for a few minutes. Lastly, rotate your atties, so that you only use each one for three days or so before changing over. Personally, I have three atties in rotation, and dry burn all of them at the weekend, which keeps me in reliable atties for a week.

Definitely looked into debridging, but I don't drip often haha.

I have a LR atty for dripping


Anyway my update:

I cleaned out the old atty with iso alcohol, rinsed in warm water, and left it to dry for 26ish hours.

Primed it, let it sit for a while.

Now...it just tastes burnt! Every .......n puff is burnt!

I blew it out, primed it again, going to try and let it prime overnight this time and check in the morning.

I don't know what to do with that one :/


Good news: the "morning breath" taste is almost gone. I can taste again!

A decent trade off I guess, taste buds for a burning atty.

What to do with that one now?

Seriously, did you dry burn it? There may be gunk buildup on the coil that needs to be burned off... There's no other way. Alcohol soak won't touch it. Just do short dry burns 'tll the coil glows orange, rinse off the ashes from the coil, let dry, prime and vape..

Soak atomizer in White Vinegar for 2 Hours.
Rinse / Dry Atomizer Complete.
Dry Burn atomizer.
Prime

If you do all this and the atty still taste bad, go outside and see how far you can throw it.

Lol I was able to fix the atties with an overnight soak and a dry burn, but I'm guessing my filler material is going bad. It's normal polyfill, so I'm topping it off very often and wasting precious juice. Not only is it a leaky mess, it starts burning after 5-6 puffs (with a good minute inbetween them).

I never had much luck with PTB but I did enjoy the tea flavors I tried.

I had better luck using "Blue Foam". Easier to cut and shape. And once you find the Exact size you need for a given cart, it is easy to make a template from the foam to make more.

BTW - Leaking is usually a sign of not enough filler.
