Black spots on japanese cotton?

Okay, here's what happened.

I have pretty much always wicked with cotton. And I'm a slave to trends, so when the "japanese cotton wicking movement of 2014" hit the U.S., I immediately jumped on board. I placed an order for some, but one of the problems is you have to order enough to last a lifetime. When it arrived (it looked very authentic with international postmarks and all...), I took a small stack and threw it in my vape box, sealed up the rest in the resealable bag it arrived in and threw it under the bathroom cabinet.

As I was using it, I noticed that there were extremely small little black spots scattered throughout the squares. Not many by any means. Very few. Maybe 4 or 5 on entire little square. And they didn't look "wet" or "grow-ey" or anything. And it tasted great to vape with, so I didn't give it any serious thought. So, after a couple of weeks (I re-wick a lot...), I went into the "giant cotton stash" and got another short-stack. Well, this time there were MANY MORE black spots.

My bathroom is a moist environment, yes. But I'm extremely clean, and they were sealed in a bag. And nothing else in my bathroom has black spots. Whatever those are, they arrived with. They're "fancy, semi-expensive, imported" black spots of some kind. I don't have a microscope laying around or anything, so I don't know. I mean, yeah, they may be organic, but they didn't look like shrubbery or anything. I threw them out and I'm afraid to buy some more.

Any ideas?

You really oughta boil it first anyway, Right?

There's really no need to boil this, the KGD is organically grown, not treated with any chemicals, that's the point. That and the long fibers going in one direction. It's why these pads cost $12 and drug store makeup pads cost $2.

Boiling is actually counterproductive in most instances. If you do boil it, use distilled water otherwise you are adding any chemicals and/or minerals which may be present in your water. You will also need to ensure its quick and thorough drying or else you will end up with mold issues.

I've been using KGD exclusively, little black specks and all, for several months now. Some pieces do have more seed specks than others and unless it has been stored openly in a moist environment, and the black specks themselves are becoming more than specks, I wouldn't worry about it.

I live in the tropics and take my cotton straight from the tree. The seeds , when removed, leave small traces of brown/black husk in the cotton but that's nothing to worry about. Not so sure about all th ants and other insects i'm vaping though!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ahhh it just adds protein to your vape!
