yes, the vitamin C link is well known (antioxidant; repairs connective tissue & assists bone growth).
you could also look into vitamin D (anti-inflammatory), coQ10 (tissue repair), and tea tree oil (antibiotic). for the latter, use gel or commercial paste, not the raw undiluted form.
lastly, consider drinking 4oz/d of cranberry juice (no added sugar!) which may help by preventing bacteria from sticking to teeth (but first consult your doctor if you are taking warfarin or have kidney stones).
