Hey guys! I was just wondering if anyone else experienced bleeding gums whilst vaping? I don't mean literally inhaling and there's blood, i mean you started vaping and now your gums bleed during brushing?
I've got an 'emergency' dentist appt tomorrow because im not sure if my mouth infection has returned or if im now going ott on the dental hygiene and overbrushing!x

If you look in the health section of the forum, you will find that bleeding gums is a common side effect that vapers experience. While there is no definitive answer, many speculate that this is from increased blood flow to the gums.

Do not panic. Many people have experienced this.:vapor:

It can not hurt to see a dentist to rule out gingivitis or periodontal issues, but plenty of vapers go through this. If you type "bleeding gums" into the search bar at the top of the page you will see that there are a number of discussions on the topic to read.

Happy vaping!

Soooo...brushing 4 times a day is bad for you...lol! Dentist was cool about the making but says im overdoing the brushing and should see a hygienist.

So vaping doesn't cause my bleeding gums but being too uptight about my dental hygiene now i do vape does... And I've been told to lay off flossing for a while...bang goes my new year's resolution...x

My sister is a Dental Tech and she had me use baking soda with the pointy rubber thingy and flossing alot. Also there is a prescription called previDent 5000ppm I use before bed. With baking soda I mix a paste (water and Baking Soda) and smear it on my gums and work it down between teeth and gums with the pointy rubber thingy. And I brush with an electric sonic toothbrush. This is what I was recommended. And my gums are a pink color now, but they use to be very red and sensitive. I also put a couple of drops of bleach in a full tank of water for a waterpik and do that too once in a while. I know the bleach thing sounds really scary but it improved my gums significantly. This works for me but I would ask your dentist first.

I was brushing my teeth with a decent electric toothbrush, brushing again using a hydrogen peroxide mouthwash and then using the mouthwash for its recommended use and doing this twice a day- so brushing four times a day for a total of 8 minutes. This was on the recommendation of my usual dentist after a nasty, nasty mouth infection. The bleeding is because i should probably stop this and see a hygienist to get rid of any lasting grot and make sure im actually brushing properly. I've also to hold off using my waterpik briefly to let my gums rest and until I've learnt to use it properly from the hygienist...I need to see my doctor anyway for a prescription so I'll ask about my general health when i see the dentist and hygienist... I've never been so uptight about my health before i started vaping! This is all good!

I'm diabetic so know a bit about this as we dehydrate easier than non-diabetics. Bleeding gums is a precursor to gum disease and can be caused, especially, by dry-mouth. The reason is saliva is antimicrobial so without enough of it problems start. Bleeding gums is a symptom of dry mouth at the very least. I wouldn't, necessarily, blame it on vaping though... although its most likely the cause if other factors don't apply. There are many, many, things that will cause it including a lot of prescription and otc meds... especially cold meds.... chain smoking and mouth breathing. The thing is to pay attention to when your mouth is dry and wet it. There are products you can buy that keep the mouth lubricated just like liquid tears for dry eye.... mouth washes, tooth pastes, gels and lozenges and they're carried most places. I get mine at Walmart. They're on the toothpaste/washes aisle. Hope that helps.

PS: this is the primary reason most longtime, heavy smokers, have dentures. Their teeth were fine but they developed gum disease from years of dry mouth. Without support for the teeth, they have to go. Cigarettes contain the glycols that dehydrate but not as much as in vaping and inhaling/exhaling is the same as mouth breathing.

OK, just a quick update: I've come back from my regular dentist who's please that I've been back to see her before the situation gets out of control. Bleeding gums, particularly sustained bleeding gums need a dentist to look over them and check all is well. As it turns out, I have a mouth infection again, although no where near as bad as the first, and need a hygienist to clear out any infection and a course of antibiotics. I think if in doubt, go see your dentist! I'd rather pay £17.50 for a dentist visit and peace of mind rather than lose my teeth...x

If you don't floss at least once a day eventually your gums will bleed. I regularly also use an ultrasonic toothbrush with OraMD. I swear by this stuff. In addition, I use PerioWash mouthwash regularly and, for slight infections and mouth/gum injuries, Eco-Dent. Eco-Dent is a powerful antiseptic that has taken care of gum inflammations and slight infections for me.

In one case, the dentist I went to wanted to extract my wisdom tooth as she claimed it was terribly infected. I refused, went home and used Eco-Dent every 3 hrs or so and 24hrs later it was 100% better. She could not believe it when I told her, as you probably won't, that I have not had a professional cleaning in 18 years and my gums are fine. That wisdom tooth was not infected, it was simply an inflammation caused by a cut to the gum right at the gum line, from eating huge mouthfuls of Fritos (I looove Fritos!). The dentist misdiagnosed it.

In any case, floss at least once a day, use an ultrasonic toothbrush with OraMD instead of toothpaste, rinse often with PerioWash and keep Eco-Dent around for when you really need it and you will have perfectly healthy teeth/gums, unless you have some sort of special condition.

Try vaping 100% VG.... when I vaped 100% PG, I developed not only bleeding gums, but a sore tongue/mouth & a swollen cheek! This went on for a few days until I went 100% VG--then was gone in a couple of hours! Suddenly it made sense! All those times I'd had a sore mouth & used the "special" mouthwash for it, it burned like acid. That's because it's mostly PG. Now I don't use toothpaste or mouthwash w/ PG in it, either. I find I can handle maybe 80VG/20PG, but no more.
