Today my doctor told me i might have raynauds, a condition caused by poor blood circulation...:( He told me smoking is most likely what causes it so i immediately jumped in and proudly told him.. but I am not smoking anymore and i am using e-cigarettes. He smiled and said, it is the nicotine.....

Feel just a bit bummed, I mean, I was feeling pretty good about the progress I made so far, in a week i went from a pack of cig a day to 1 in 4 days (and that was only because my carto went toasted), I felt like I am going to be a much healthier person. But I guess it is just not good enough....arghhhh....

Uggh, I'm sorry, what a bummer! I wonder, though, if your transition to non-smoker would be easier if you continue to vape, but with zero nicotine, to cover the habitual hand-to-mouth angle. Maybe even keep an extremely low nicotine liquid like 6mg for emergency times when you would be tempted to pick up a cigarette otherwise. I feel a little bit wrong suggesting keeping some nicotine around with your health situation, but it might serve as a "safety net" for you as far as avoiding cigarettes when cravings are at their very worst.

Best of luck to you for good health and good spirits!

There are even some zero nic juices that still have some throat hit. I can try and remember back which ones and post back. I ordered a bunch of samples from China back when they were still confiscating stuff so i ordered all 100 flavors in zero nic. Some were actually pretty good. The nic addiction actually only last a couple of days, it's the TH and hand2mouth habits that are the most comforting. Do what you have to do to get healthy.

Hello guys/gals, as always, appreciate all of your responses!!

Yes like you suggested I have thought of the 0 nic juice but I thought those wont give me the throat hit and cig feel I crave (besides the nic) for. So yes i am very interested in those 0 nic juice with throat hit, I didnt think it would be possible. ReggaeGeek, could you give me more info??

@ mwa, what is QHit? The doc suspects I have raynauds, he just brought it up as he looked at my fingers, all he said was to stop smoking, he is not my reg doc i went to him for entirely different reason so he didnt really set me up on any program or anything, he just stressed that nicotine has negative effect on blood circulation.

I'd suggest that you do ask your regular doctor too. I have atherosclerosis, and peripheral vascular disease. Essentially blocked arteries in my legs. My vascular surgeon was delighted that I was vaping instead of smoking. Yes, nicotine has effects on the circulatory system, but some doctors will tell you that it is nicotine in conjunction with the combustion of smoking, and especially in conjunction with carbon monoxide, that is the real culprit, not necessarily nicotine alone.

I stress that I'm not saying take my word for it, but please do yourself a favor and get a second opinion.

So sorry to hear of your predicament. I'd never heard of Raynaud's until now. So, I had to look it up.
Wikipedia has an entry ...
Raynaud's phenomenon
Among many things, the article states, "Emotional stress and cold are classic triggers of the phenomenon."
It makes sense though that since nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, it would aggravate the condition, even though not the cause of it. There's no question (in my mind) that smoking cigarettes would be far worse than vaping. If you can cut the nicotine out entirely, more power to you! But, as others have suggested, it would be better to vape 0mg juice or very low nic juice, than it would be to start smoking again.

I see you're in Seattle. No doubt you've had some chilly weather lately. Did your doctor mention anything about that, or the stress triggers mentioned in the wiki article?

Thanks again for the responses.

malyden: Thanks for the link to QHit, guess it doesnt work as well as I hope it would....

yvilla/NCC: i have been doing research on the disease, I dont know, from what i read the symtoms are white/blue/red fingers/hands. I do have slightly red fingers/hands, kinda like blushing red nothing like the pictures i saw, and never were they blue/white. I also think i should seek a second opinion. The doc didnt really say much except he looked at my fingers and said i have raynauds, i was like huh, what is raynauds? He then explains to me and told me to stop smoking. That was about all he said.

CoughingBad- Hey, what a bummer! Im really feeling for you here. I would try getting any 0mg nicotine juice and try adding some pure grain alcohol to it (Like everclear), this can increase the throat hit, also juices with cinnamon or even some menthols provide a better throat hit as well. AT LEAST you have e-cigs @ 0mg nicotine to use since it sounds like the patch and gum are not an option.... its better than nothing.

Raynaud's is classically triggered by cold temperatures, and that's usually the way that it is diagnosed. Patient's will experience a tingling sensation, typically starting at the tips of the fingers, and it can progress to pain as well as to involve the entire finger(s) wherein the finger(s) will turn blue. It's due to vasoconstriction and can be aggravated by anything that will cause blood vessels to constrict (e.g. cold, nicotine, stress); it's also seen in some autoimmune diseases. It's not related to atherosclerosis or PAD (these have an entirely different etiology). As others have said, the best way to avoid the symptoms of Raynaud's would be to cut out nicotine (use 0-nic juices) and to keep your hands and feet warm (the feet are rarely a problem since people always wear socks/shoes when it's cold out...most people at least). If it gets severe, the doc can put you on a trial of venodilators such as calcium channel blockers.

Hopefully you're doctor is just being overly cautious, but in the event that he is right, just remember that it's something that is very easy to treat and is not life-threatening. I hope that all turns out well for you.

You've gotten some very good advice here, and I will follow it up with urging you to see your regular doctor and read up on everything you can find about Reynauds. I have it secondary to Sjogrens Syndrome, which means that it's the Sjogrens causing it, not anything else. It can be secondary to a number of other diseases and you need these ruled out if you definitely have it. Primary Reynauds is somewhat hereditary and is caused by vasiospasms, technically not a lessening of circulation. Yes, nicotine, caffeine and even hormones can aggravate it with cold and stress being the biggest triggers for it, but I developed it before I ever started smoking and it didn't get any worse when I was doing my imitation of a chimney. ;)
