i had moderate symptoms when i used to smoke, slight symptoms when i switched to
vaping 18mgs, and now, at my usual 4-6mgs max, absolutely no symptoms. however, IMHO, often, docs put all the emphasis on nicotine being the culprit for triggering raynauds symptoms, while failing to realize that there are MANY things besides nicotine that can affect the condition...and, even more severely in a great number of people (myself included):
reynauds can also be caused by amphetamine use (not just illegal but also adderal/ritalin etc. ADHD meds), and can come and go. I know this because when I went on ADHD meds last fall i thought my fingers and toes were going to freeze off over the winter, and my left ring finger became numb and tingling. the good news is that it is not necessarily a permanent condition, and sometimes your body adjusts over time.
the same thing happened to me (along with *severe* cramping in my feet, and tightness in my fingers) when i first started on adderall -- it turned out being due to the strength (20mgs), type (IR/immediate release), and frequency (3x/day) being far too high and harsh for my system. thankfully, however, i had a very patient and understanding doc, who worked with me on tweaking things until we got it just right (all the positive effects and none of the negative)...i ended up with 15mgs XR/extended release, 1x/day.
Caffeine is also a vaso-constrictor I had too cut my soda and coffee down I get numb hands if I
vape and drink alot of coffee.
i used to *only* drink caffeine: a gigantic cup of coffee in the morning, iced tea with every meal, liters of diet coke/pepsi in between and hot tea in the evening. i had the typical raynaud's symptoms, and again, cramping/tightening in my feet and fingers. then, due to an unrelated problem (let's just say i had "potty troubles", lol...i'll spare you the details...you're welcome), i tapered my caffeine down to none, and not only did my potty troubles go away, but so did the raynaud's symptoms...COMPLETELY. btw, i had stopped smoking six years previously at this point (only to go back to the nasty habit; then quit for another four years, then start again...why? bcuz i'm a complete idiot, obviously).
i don't miss caffeine much at all, aside from never finding a decent decaf teabag brand (i loved Red Rose regular, but their decaf version sucks!)...btw, if anyone has any suggestions, i'd be very grateful.
yet another possible trigger for Raynaud's symptoms, and definitely the *worst* one for me by far was Alcohol -- especially wine (even one glass could bring on symptoms, and 2-3 would make life unbearable). when i talked to my doc about it, surprisingly, he didn't tell me not to drink...instead, he said "switch to vodka" -- what?!?! he said it's the least likely to cause symptoms, but the purer the better (translation: cheap vodka won't cut it). and ya know what? the dude was right! -- i can now enjoy up to 3 mixed vodka drinks (1 measured shot each, with a non-caffeinated mixer), once or twice a week, without any pain whatsoever.
(of course, one should refer to their own physician before making any such decisions)
oh, and lastly, like others mentioned wearing socks to bed definitely helps to keep the feet from being too cold, which is yet another trigger (i wear them year 'round..and since i have A/C, yep, i even wear them on the hottest of summer nights -- because it's always 70 degrees indoors).
