The big trick with the blue foam is getting the right amount of "squish" so it's not so loose the juice all runs out and not so tight it's just a plug. It's kind of trial and error (trim the foam pieces if they're too tight, toss them out if they're too loose), but worth it.

With the D-shaped 901 cart, I get the best results by just cutting an oversized "D" and putting it in flat. With the 510 and 801 carts, you can take a strip of foam and fold it in half, then stuff the round part in and trim off the two sticky-up parts to fit nicely.

(With the 901 and 801 carts, I use a straw that's cut and "hollowed out" to provide a platform for the plug. With the 510 cart, the indents a few millimeters down make a pretty good stopper for the foam.

I never tried the Blue Foam. On my venture to find it, I happened across the face buff pad and got it. Was happy with it but right now I'm trying out the TB wick method and so far I'm happy with it. It won't get my finally seal of approval until next Wednesday. That's when I've used it for a week and I'm still happy with it.

I've tried everything with mixed results. It seems every month, a new filler becomes the Cart Mod King of the Forum. Up until recently, I stuck with the PTB mod (which can waste juice and flood the atty) and was reluctant to shell out any more money for some obscure material. Finally last week, I decide to try out the Blue foam plug. I'm glad I did. It holds more juice, gives a great vape, but more importantly, it doesn't waste any juice. But like Brachinus said, you have to do a little experimenting to figure out how much foam to use. Once you have that worked out, you're good to go.

You'll be hard pressed to find a better option. On a side note, I did read that this doesn't seem to work very well for the 801 users out there (their atty's tend to flood).

It works if you fold the foam. Cut a strip slightly wider than the cart's diameter and more than twice the depth. Fold it in half, compress it with tweezers and insert it folded end first. Trim it flush with the cart mouth with a razor blade and you're good to go. It helps with filling if you use a single drop of alcohol to "prime" the foam's surface. Otherwise it tends to bead up and pool on the surface.

Currently I'm using Aquaclear foam for 801s. This has larger cells and is more resilient than the blue type. It's harder to cut but a bit more convenient to stuff. Seems to hold slightly more and wick longer between fills. My first cart gave me 4 hrs before needing a top-off and then took 18 drops. My second cart isn't doing as well... maybe I'll do some experimentation this weekend to try for a slightly looser fill.

For my 801, I do a "slug" mod with a piece of foam folded over and stuffed in so the ends stick out (and then trim). The 801 likes being wet anyway, so a bit of flooding isn't a huge deal (especially in my Chuck, which has a reservoir around the atty connection that catches a few drops of juice).

I LOVE the blue foam. I've only been vaping for a few weeks, but I grew frustrated with the stock filler almost immediately due to wicking problems and bad taste. Straw mod didn't work all that well for me (it increased vapor, but not wicking, would still get dry taste with 1/2 cart unvaped), and they don't sell pyramid tea bags in the stores here. I went to Petco and picked up some blue foam, and found what I had been looking for.

I use a piece of spring from a pen (the clicky pens, regular spring steel) and cut it to fit horizontally in the cart, only slightly compressed, at the lips of the cart (about 1/4" down). The spring helps keep the foam from getting pushed down into the cart and letting juice leak, and gives you something to push the foam down onto to flatten it out properly so it blocks the cart off. I use a piece of foam 1.5x the size of the opening in the cart, so it only has to be compressed a bit to fit in the end, while still wicking beautifully and preventing leaking juice. [NOTE - Make sure you wash the spring and foam with mild dish soap and warm water and rinse thoroughly before using for this mod, otherwise you could be inhaling something bad]

Using this method (spring + blue foam plug) I can vape a cart completely dry, and know even before I get the dry atty taste because the vapor production drops off right before the cart is empty.

 for spring + blue foam plug cart mod

eclypse's blue foam is a phenomenal way to vape on high voltage (in my relatively noob opinion, granted etc.). It holds a lot of juice, keeps the atty from starving.

You can also search for "Marineland blue foam" (I think, or "aquarium blue foam") on eBay for some pretty good deals. Once you buy a pack, you're pretty much set for a long time.

Remember to prewash the sheets....just caution, I suppose.

Just bought those marineland filters but haven't tried em yet. Do you need anything additional (straw, spring, etc.) for this to work? Or will just the foam itself be ok?

Check out the threads eclypse has posted. There's a version with just the foam, and a newer version with a straw component propping up the foam to keep it from being pushed down into the cart by the atty.

Both ways work; without the straw I've had to use a pin to pull up the foam when I re-hydrate it, sometimes.

And if new "fillers du jour" do regularly appear on the forum, I look forward to trying more...

I vape with a 510, and have found that the blue foam gets kinda funky after a couple of days. I really have to be vigilant, and wash and/or replace it, or it starts to taste really nasty. No argument about the benefits, just thought that I'd add my two cents about my experience. You think it might be due to the 510, or something else I am doing. Everyone else seems to be thrilled by the material.

Every time I refill the cart, I mop up all excess juice from the foam with a paper towel. Even so, have to replace the foam every few days because despite maintaining the same appearance, it loses it's wicking ability (I think it gets less "springy" which causes liquid to get stuck in the foam rather than flowing onto the bridge properly). Either way, a single 3-pack of filters (~$10) and I can't imagine needing more in less than a year.
