Katz waited as they were checked out, the frightened children got her attention more than any other, Misty was finished being washed from the grim, her face white again. “Show me the ship.” The nurse looked down at her. She said. “For them to get back into good habits; she needs to go to school.”
Misty looked at her and pointed. “Do you know who I am; I am a princess in real life.” “Well princess, you're no longer in your kingdom.” “You.” Katz stopped her. “Misty, they don’t get it; write something for her.” Misty stuck her hand out, “The pen.” The nurse gave it to her and her face was less than believing.
Misty wrote and wrote. “Here, you read that.” The nurse said. “Little girl, you need to calm down.” “I will not calm down! I am a royal!” She stood up above her. “She needs to leave this area now.” Misty stormed out of the ER on the ship, she looked and started back towards the machine room.
“Ranger, we need security at the time machine.” said Katz. Misty turned to her and asked. “Why?” Katz responded. “Your mother stole the crystals freezing time, and did again; if you do it would compound this.” Misty waved her hand in dis-missal. Guards came armed at the door, as Misty came closer.
“Move from the door.” said Misty, the guards looked down at her and did not budge. “Do you know who my mother is?” The guards looked at her unimpressed. “No.” said one. Misty started to glare at them. “My mother is Queen. I am to be on the
throne when she leaves.” Katz picked her up as she flayed and screamed down the hall. “Let me go, let me go Katz!”
Fine and Katz dropped her to the floor, she hit it hard and looked up at her. “What was that?” Katz responded. “You are acting childish, so I will treat you like a child.” “I am a child.” she said back. “No, you are older in a child's body, you told me you are 230 years old.” Misty stood short, only two feet tall.
“I am older Katz and that is what I hate, why did she keep me so small?” “So that you would one day be better than the rest.” Katz knelt down to her, and said. “Your mother has left for vengeance, this is not the answer.” She pleaded. “Vengeance?” asked Misty.
Katz said. “We thought all of you were gone, Scott, your father and all your siblings, so we ….. I grieved over it.” It was about this time that Ranger sent a text message to Angel. “Scott, Misty and his youngest are still alive.” Fuzzy was sitting at the chair he was learning the controls of the ship.
It took a moment and Anjel got the message, she was looking over the island and repairs. She read it in silence in front of the rest. “What is it?” asked JPF.
Angel read it again. “They have been found.” She walked fast, and saw the maintenance man, and said. “Fuel the jet, I have to get back to the boat.” JPF came close to her as the heat on the island grew. “You should stay.” She turned to him. “What?” JPF was calm. “We have wounded and dead to attend to; you can have them come to the island with the time machine.”
Angel wanted it now, so she said. “Yes, good idea JPF.” She dialed and soon Ranger was on the phone. “Hello.” she answered. “Ranger. I want you to send
Scott and the children are here to the island with the time machine.”
The order was given, and Ranger made an announcement over the intercom. “Scott, you and your children are to report to the time machine, to go to Angel.” Katz waited as they were close by the guards as Scott came his hair fixed. A dark brown still young enough, a thick chin and strong bones.
Scott was escorted and the door was opened, he came
through it so was not worried and they waited. Misty waved to Katz. “Bye.” Katz watched them go and next she went to the machine, the controls were easy enough. Set a date and location use the map.
She was alone and picked carefully, she could not leave Anjel alone. She placed a ring on the machine, consigning her fate. She left and when she showed up it was very cold. Anjel was on the wall with Christopher. Anjel shivered; and Christopher took off his coat to cover her.
“What is happening, why is the cold so bitter and fast?” Christopher cleared his
throat. “Well, hmmm how do I say this? Darling kept the weather fair for ages, skipping winter for some close to 300 years. What we are going to see now that she is gone, the darkest winter ever.”
“What do you mean?” Christopher answered. “We will be lucky to see the sun or moon in the next three or four months, she saved it back now the time is due. “Do you have enough supplies?” she asked. “We will see.” They watched in the distance, the mountains and valley between, there was a heavy fog, and in it they could see fire.
The fire came moving; it looked like lava, slow but determined. “What is that?” Christopher said back. “An army some 300 years in the making; with one idea: kill or enslave the living.” Christopher shouted out orders. “We need three scout groups to go out now!”
Angel said. “Wait what? You want them to go out there?” Christopher said to her, “My lady, how did I get to this spot?” She said back. “You have been in wars before.” He nodded. The horses went out in teams of seven, so if ever two were lost there were still five. The snow was coming down softly at first, then the snowflakes got larger and heavier and wetter. The fire was flowing from the mountains.
The snow fell harder, without Darling it fell on the city fast and the plants withered fast; it was sudden and harsh. “They will go seek them, and let us know their plans. They will besiege the city. It will not be easy my dear.” Anjel said as she was freezing. “Why have you resigned yourself to death? You have built your own death trap of freezing or hunger.”
He looked at her, “We haven’t.” “How if you have no sun are you to provide for them?” Christopher took out a note. “We were told to be ready.” Anjel took the paper and looked at it. In her own writing were the words. “Save wood as much as you can.” That was it.
Christopher went down the wall and she followed, from the top one they went down and he led her to one of the center buildings, the one with fire. The door blew open as they entered with snow starting to follow, it was dank dark and lit with torches. Thousands, maybe millions of arrows, spears, wood for a good year saved. “The livestock is being sheltered in another area up here at the city center. Yes people will get tired of the same food, but if they truly are hungry they will eat.” He went over to a mother with a small child and gave her some bread from another soldier, and some water and milk.
The snow continued down as the clouds got darker, the valley before them, the fog was dense and then no longer visible.
