Fantastic work CC and I definitely agree with the squonk hole being dibie style (ergonomically I believe it's the best)

Make sure that when you press the fire button the copper positive contact doesn't come anywhere near the aluminum body because the mod will short out. Maybe cut and glue some delrin strips on that cut out between the two tubes to ensure it cannot touch the body.

As Quigs said your metalwork is masterclass and a lesson for us all. Great stuff buddy :thumb:

Edit: You'll also need an o-ring with an O-D of your battery tube to prevent your battery rattling around when the button isn't pressed. What also works is a delrin/peek ring turned on the lathe for that.

Here she is and she's up and runnin'. The reason I did another dna-40 squonker was first of all to try and get the wife to try squonking and secondly to attempt to convince myself that regulated is the way to go in the future.

I failed dismally on both counts  (I'm a mech guy and it's not gonna change)

Sorry guys I just don't get it, I know it's just pro'lly me but why mess with boards, wires, soldering etc etc just to get a vape. My latest dibie-like mech with all brass and copper contacts hits just as hard and is so much simpler to make (and a lot smaller too)

Anyway here she is. I used 3 different burls on this

Beautiful capt. I'm with you on the mech thing. I just can't get myself to like regulated either. That being said I have yet to try temp control and that is intriguing. Problem with regulated mods is they don't pass the roscoe mud puddle test[emoji12]

Another masterpiece you've got there Captain! I'm curious about what your don't like about regulated. For me a consistent vape from start to finish is what really make it worth it.

As far as the consistent vape I would agree if the user is a novice. For experienced vapers like us who can tell when their battery is at 3.8 or 3.7v it really is a non-issue. At 3.7v I change batteries and I always have a great vape just the way i like it.

When I said above what I said I meant as far as I'm concerned. For me personally I really don't find any benefits with regulated mods. In fact it's a bit of a trial and error to get the right setting dialed in.

.......... then I'll HAVE to decide on a squonk hole....

I'm thinkin' Dibi Style..... :)

I was skeptical of the new Dibi squonk hole till I got my GDibi. I like the "racing helmet" hole better than the original symmetrical one. You can't go wrong (ergonomically) with a simple 13mm radius Peko style squonk hole either.

It Looks great Capt, but I have to agree 100% about regulated VS mech. I just don't see any advantages once you get use to using a mod. I do see many more points of possible failure though. I have a DNA 30 but, I just never did trust it to take out anywhere. It sets here on my desk and I use it to burn coils.

Yeah, I hear you and certainly there is that to each their own factor. How much wood would you say you have between the battery and the DNA? Looking from the bottom cap I wouldn't say you have a triple wide, but with the corners it seems optically a healthy 2.5.

You mean how wide is it? The battery is right next to the board

When I feel like it's weak or just should be about due, I change it out. I don't know or care what voltage that it. The consistency of a regulated mod or kick is kind of nice, but for me it's not worth the trade off in reliability. I've went back to smoking more than once over malfunctioning gear. That's not gonna happen again.

OK, I looked back at the progress pics and see it is milled out all the way to the battery tube. I forgot that part. From the angle of the pic showing the bottom it seems wide, judging from the battery cap, emphasis on 'seems'. :)

Yes perhaps the picture is a bit misleading with it's perspective. The battery is right next to the board, what with the wires and everything else it's a tight squeeze too.

main reason I like regulated is the soft touch instant firing at 100% each and every time. with mechs I find that after a while I'm mashing the button harder and harder just to get it to fire at the same 100%. that and I can just build a coil, any coil, and adjust it to the wattage I want, I don't have to be so particular about the coil, anything from .4ohms to 2.4 ohms can vape equally well for me. I can build a 2 ohm coil with tons of surface area and still get a kickass vape from it at 8 or 9 volts. and it fully fires every time, no matter what. when I use mechs I wind up with finger dents and bruises :) when I was using my dibi daily I had a big dent in my pinky finger :)

naturally when you vape is dying off you're inclined to switch batteries

I don't like carrying batteries, or even juice with me, that's why I prefer a regulated bottom feeder. it's an all inclusive package

I never had a regulated device fail on me so I don't have any experience with that

I have several friends who only vape regulated mods (mainly DNA's) and love them. Whatever keeps you off the cancer stix buddy :toast:
