I would love to know what tools I need to add to start doing some of this kind of modding. This is my favorite thread to get inspired. I hope in the years to come I'll be able to learn how to make these kind of kids too.
Thanks all of you and keep it up!

I was going to make mine with hand tools but material and ideas are building up so I just sprung for a router and band saw. I think if I add a belt sander, I'll have enough to do what I want relatively efficiently without breaking the bank.

On a side note; Can anyone tell me if the Vapage 9ml bottle is easier to squonk than the stock bottles that come with RSMs or REOs? I'm working on a squonk bar/lever but I'm a little concerned about strength.

Really depends on what type of mods you plan on making Mark. If this is your first attempt you can go with wood or plastics, but I wouldn't try messing with aluminum or other metals as you need milling machinery for those. First find what you want to do and then figure (or ask us here) what's the easiest way to do it. Just as an example you can use an electric drill to hollow out the insides of a wooden mod with multiple holes and then a small chisel to remove waste and even the surface.
The point being that you don't necessarily need heavy machinery to get modding, the fancy machinery just makes things faster.

captain, to do things well takes more of patience and determination than just skill ... I can tell that you have a lot of patience and determination, i'm sure you're the type that will spend hours trying to get something exactly the way you want it and then if it on't come out the way you want it you're even likely to redo it till your satisfied, patience trumps skills in many things.

I believe that anyone can do great things with enough determination and patience. the problem is, many who don't have such a high level of patience and determination will constantly just move onto the next step because they want it done and don't have the patience to dwell on each step till it's as perfect as they can get it.

in my opinion, in many cases the difference between just doing something and doing something very well is simply determined by how quick you are to move onto the next step :) when you have enough patience to not move on to the next step until you feel you've done the best you can and do each step that way, then you will wind up with something great. patience and determination/drive is more important than skills, skills can only come after repetition

Turbo you're right buddy my wife says I'm a perfectionist to the point that it borders OCD and yes I have redone stuff two and three times because I simply didn't like the result
I don't know why I'm like that, sometimes it's a major PITA I can assure you

Slow and Steady wins the race :) Very nice work
Now thats a Reo! I could never understand why Rob would not offer something like this as an option?
I'm willing to bet he would sell a pile of them :)

Robert believes in a "keep it simple" business model, and does not like to have electronics in his devices which are not his own. It was attempted with the VV Grand and Buzz Pro chip, but the chip issues were more more of a PITA than he wanted to deal with, and discontinued them. He sells more of his current line-up than he knows what to do with now, and offers fantastic customer support on them.. Why change? ;)

Anyone here remember when the REO Mini (came before the Grand) made it's debut in 2010? it was a server-crashing F5 extravaganza for sure. :)

I think times are changing. And sure Reo's are great the way they are. I'm not saying stop making Reo's, I'm just saying offer the option
Even if Rob didn't want to back some one else product in His mod, Maybe a DIY ready to go Reo Enclosure
I keep up with the trends here and there not mech mods. also bin noticing not as many new Reo user's as there were say a year ago Just saying.

Robert replied to a post regarding the DNA 40's temp protection, and if it became known from an ongoing study that TP is necessary to prevent potentially harmful emissions while vaping.. He said that if it came down to him having to install electronics in his devices, he would pull the plug, and retire..

That said, I too would like to see him produce some DIY REO bodies to install our own electronics.. :) I personally use one of his converted VV Grands with the Evolv Kick 2 / 18650... ;)

While I agree full on with Rob offering up his product at varying levels of completeness for the modders, I'm really glad he doesn't follow every whimsical trend of the vaping biz...the guy could probably use some downtime.

Sure, reg'd mods are becoming "Trendy", this current ridiculous wattage arms race driven by the Chinese is eventually going to seriously hurt someone one day... the next trend will be law makers knee-jerking them out of existence.

I think the wattage race has come to an end. 2015 will not be about watts that's for sure.
