Is it just me or is there something wrong with this picture???

That woodie 18490 bottom feeder on the left has the squonk hole on the battery side?? When you close the door isn't the squonk hole on the battery side?

Maybe it's to manually push more amperage out of the battery

The only thing I can think is the magnets go all the way through the door and are visible on the outside as accents

I'm sure studiovape won't mind me posting this here. No of this has anything to do with me, it's all sv's work!

Greetings friends,

Here's a sneak peak of how the Grand is coming along. The wood inlay is on without any finish and not even final sanding yet. What's been challenging is getting the wood inlays flush with the rest of the body. If you remember I milled 2.5mm off the sides and 3.3mm off the back. I then epoxied 4mm pieces of wood and painstakingly sanded evenly to flush everything. I wanted to be able to run my finger down the mod and feel no difference between aluminum and wood.
Next I'll do the aluminum inlays in the wood, then sanding (up to 1500 grit) and finally the clear coat lacquer on the wood. The pictures don't really do the wood justice but when the lacquer goes on it will show how stunning it really is. As I said my intentions here are to make a real showpiece out of this Grand.

Would have probably done more but I received my new toy and had to play with it some. Now I can finally make my own 510 BF as well as all my hardware

That door is simply slid over for picture purposes. You can tell by magnet placement. The sqounk hole indeed goes infront of the bottle. They just put it in like that to take snazzy pictures. Great job SV!

My love- Kawa Reo LP w/ TRA SL door & LokiLab Odin.. Mmm Mmm

Are you kidding me!...you suck

So it that the Proxxon?...how is it? I was quite surprised by the quality of the x-y table (it has less lash than my mill)...though with the amount of milling you do I wondered why you got the lathe first (not that we both won't have both at one point :p)

Yep it's the Proxxon PD230/e which is the middle of the road lathe they do. For such a small lathe I was impressed, I tested it first with copper, brass and then mild steel and it cut like butter. I then tried SS as well and it cut it just fine too. It's surprisingly real well built and although I've only used it for an hour or so my first impressions are very good. It's not something for turning serious work but for what we do and what we intend to be using it for I think it's probably the best buy. I could have got a slightly bigger China lathe for less money but I think going with a smaller German made unit is a wiser long term decision.

I went with the lathe first because I'm busting to make my own 510 BF and also some other hardware for that BF woodie I'm designing. I can't pull it off unless I have the tools to make the hardware. I'm planning it to be a 100% mech with no wires anywhere.

Besides when I saw that Grizzly of yours you wet my appetite buddy

Thank God my wife is understanding

Thanks, really appreciate that but it's no fun if you press ENTER and the computer does the cutting. This is a labor of love, you have to put you heart and soul into it so you can sit back and admire your handiwork otherwise it just doesn't do it for me. Hope you understand what I mean.

As I said earlier it's not about the destination, the journey is the fun bit

Oh sure..I understand..Hand crafted is awesome, and with mod art essential imo. Gosh I can't get that one guys mechanical mod art out of my mind.

Coming from a mechanical background..(I use to build CNC's) that is right up my alley!

i think the brass one is one of the cleanest and well done mods i have ever seen, which is not to say that i don't admire the skill and craftsmanship that guys like Turbo, Quigs, Steve and all manage to achieve. Far beyond my abilities.

My wife returned from shopping (of course) and saw i was looking at that page...."what will that one run you? $1000?"

Probably.

I read somewhere that you wrote your wife is Dutch. I got one of them too from Amsterdam, funnily enough she too loves shopping, is it the Dutch DNA ??????

As you say, i think 75% is the journey - she likes to steal my car and speed to the shops. I'm sure the shopping is secondary.

The Dutch have some eye-watering insults and a straightforward bold attitude that sits well with me, although i once took her to the bank to get her a credit card and by way of smalltalk the banker said something like "oh - i hear Holland is extremely clean, with hardly any littering and things like that, that we suffer from here?"

"no - they are dogs".
