steve, trying to get a dna from evolve themselves is really difficult, the only time I've seen evolve list them for sale on there site with any of the dna series is only when they happen to be overstocked, otherwise they always seem to be in a state of perpetual catch up mode and they don't have any singles or modder packs of 5 on their site which is the case now and probably will be for the foreseeable future. when evolve is in this state the only way to buy from them is in the magnitude of by the hundreds so forget about getting it from evolve unless you get in a group buy or something but I'm not expecting any group buy till after the holidays really , best bet is to pick it up from a reseller, I usually buy from these guys, they have over 40 pieces in stock atm: Buffalo Vapor Shop

and that mini mill is pretty cool but I even have a larger mill and even with a larger mill clearance on the Z axis can be a problem with a vice, the smaller the mil the more problems height becomes... I've seen some pretty cool vices that are 2 piece though, basically one "jaw" mounts stationary to the table and the opposite "jaw" is the tightening part which also mounts flat to the table, now you can spread these 2 parts apart as far as you need and your work can be clamped right at table height. looks something like this:

Got my new toy yesterday.

Anybody with a mini mill: If you did not know, there are inexpensive DRO setups available on eBay. I set up my mill with these and they are priceless as far as increasing the usefulness of the machine. They are available in various lengths and are easy to attach to any mill or lathe. :)

Thanks Turbo, you're right Evolv seem to list them for sale on their site only if they're overstocked. I'll order from HOV and I also found them here too at Vape Dojo but I see that HOV also has the SX350 (which I also want). That 2 piece vise looks nice trouble is I haven't seen it anywhere but I'll do a search today for it. Thanks buddy

The Z axis was top of mind when I bought the Grizzly MM....I bought the Proxxon vice for their x-y table and as good as it is, its not much good in holding a mod (though the clamp down kit it comeswith isn't bad)

It was the Z that almost made me get a floor DP (my dad has a nice HD Delta he'd give me but I really don't have the shop space to dedicate)... but the Griz. MM has some decent Z...In fact now I wish I bought the pivot vice.

Btw... working on a mod atm that I could never build without a mill... but if you ever get the itch to make something out of billet copper...really want it[emoji1] ... It's like trying to machine a glue stick... one thing I have learned for copper is go with the fastest spindle speed you can get and use just basic WD40 (lots of it) for cutting fluid... and take very small bites...

Oh boy am I looking forward to see this :D
You and me both...It's a pretty unconventional mod so I've built it in sketch up a couple times to see if it'll actually work but of course in sketch up everything is prefect (it lies)... but the most valuable piece of knowledge gained from the modeling is this thing has to be build like a high rise building (one floor at a time)... Due to the fact that we both know sketch up gets to ignore the laws of our physical universe, I've already had to amend my overall height of this mod several times...which is a pita cause its really cutting into my pre fabrication of parts (aka jump to something else when I get frustrated/bored).... another thing I've never had to do is use 3 different hardnesses of solder (melt points) and keep track where I've used what in order to actually build this thing... btw I don't know if you've heard of Rubyfluid soldering flux but believe the hype... the stuff is that good.

I've got this week till they cut me open and turn me into a cyborg so I want to have a working model in the next couple days

Quigs I'm intrigued by what you came up this time, sounds complicated but knowing you you'll nail it. I had the same problem with sketchup on the woodie BF I'm doing and I agree it's a PITA to follow a plan and constantly having to come back and change it because it doesn't work as you want it. I was thinking maybe it's just my lack of design skills.

No I haven't heard of Rubyfluid I use another brand Gold something but I'll pick up some Rubyfluid and try it.

I'm almost finished with the inlaid Reo, just doing final finishing now and lacquer so I'll have have it wrapped up probably today. Then I'll get to finish that woodie because I've got it on pause as I was waiting on some brass and SS which I now have.

Wish you the best for the operation pal

Ok...re-writes...(btw, if there are any "actual" machinists out there...please, please feel free to slap me)...so these holes I'm boring in copper stock have to be dead bang on...and I have 18 of them to do...this morning I went out to face another 6 and used a different method to make sure they're where they need to bein'...to tweak the x-y I lowered the end mill to the piece and with the fine z just touched the work and turned the spindle by hand...and noticed the the carbide end mill was cutting with just hand power...and cutting nice...so I double checked my accuracy, gave it a shot of WD and this time put the spindle in low range and turned the speed pot till it just started to rotate, then just very, very slowly lowered the bit (while constantly brushing away the chips)...what a difference...painfully slow but a lot less stress on the gear and the hole is to perfection...

so, as per my original advice on milling copper...ya, completely disregard it, like, what was I thinking?, with copper being so soft with a low melting point, logically I'll bore with a speed that creates the most amount of heat <<hangs head in shame>>

Plenty of clearance in the z.

It's this one, in case anyone's looking for one:

For my first time using this thing, it went pretty well. A bit of a learning curve, but it'll do.

I need to clean things up a little in there, but I got in a hurry to see if I could get that nut on the back of the fire switch.

The inlaid Reo Grand is ready hope you guys like it. I would say that the biggest challenge here was the finish between two effects, raw polished aluminum and lacquered wood. Knowing what I know now I doubt I'll try something similar again because it's very hard to have two perfectly finished level surfaces from so different materials.
Anyway I'm happy with the way it's turned out and despite the fact that this won't be an everyday vape I'm sure I'll enjoy it from time to time.
