Hey guys. Great forum you have here! I've been reading for a few days and have learned a TON.
I am receiving the beginning of my stuff today by recommendation of a friend.
I ordered an ego kit, cartos, LR atty, and a bunch of juices.
Then I got carried away reading and youtubing and I ordered a whole lot of DIY stuff which won't be here until maybe next week. That definitely seems more up my alley. I'll be starting out with the juices I ordered with my kit to start, though.
I have a couple questions.
First - I got the kit with 2 batteries but I've come to understand that I will need an extra or two. Especially after reading all the ego battery problem threads. I guess I can't say where I ordered from but my kit is called "Riva (eGo)". Which batteries do I need to order as backups? Can I get an extended type batt?
I was also wondering if there was a such thing as a pass thru for the ego? I haven't seen any mention of one for my kit specifically. I think those are my only remaining questions. Which is pretty good because a couple days ago I had absolutely no clue what any of this carto, atty, cart, etc jazz was.

All in all I ordered:
The Riva (eGo) starter kit
Cartos
LR attys
About 5 premixed juices
And a whole bunch of DIY stuff

I was wondering if I missed any other essentials.
Thanks for all the info on these forums and it's really refreshing to see such great attitudes on the internet:)

I started 4 months ago with a 510 kit. The battery life was horrible so a month later I bought an EGO kit. The battery life on the EGO batteries was much better (650 mAH) but still wasn't quite long enough of a charge for me so I picked up a couple of the EGO XL batteries (900 mAH). These XL batts have been really great as one batt usually lasts me all day. When it dies, I take my second one of the charger and continue vaping.

Not sure if there's such a thing as an EGO pass thru... I think there are a few 510 pass thru models you could look into. However, I think you'll enjoy the EGO with LR atties. I just wish the LR atties lasted longer!

fmmfl you've already gotten a better start then most with ordering the ego as your first PV. I wish i would have found this forum before being sucked into buying the Blu. I can't say much about the ego batts as im still waiting for mine to get here. But GL and welcome to ECF.

littleg, I'm pretty sure I've seen an ego passthrough somewhere. I'm going to have to see if I can find it.

Edit: LF has a passthrough ego batt. Here

There is a Pass Thru device for the eGo. It is actually merely an eGo battery, with USB connection at the end of the battery, and includes the USB cable. It first came to light at Janty World - Janty World, but since then several vendors have made this available.

As far as a larger mAh battery for the ego/riva, there are several larger sizes available. In addition to the original 650 mAh size, there has since become available a 900 mAh, a 1000 mAH, a 1300 mAh, and unless I am mistaken, I saw a 1600 mAh battery available someplace.

Edit: Thanks, Jim K. I was editing my reply while you were posting your reply. As a side note, I also went the BluCig route early on in my vaping journey. Many others have gone that route before us, I've found. So, don't feel too bad about having made that choice. It's all a learning process and there is a learning curve.

I have a joye ego (Riva is a similar e cig) with the standard 650 batts. I can vape them for about 7 hours, and keep the other one that is charged with me. When I get home in the evening (at this point my 1st batt is still working) I swap for the charged one, and put the other in the charger to charge all night. The only reason I am thinking of getting a spare is when one of these batts goes dead. I have a spare 510 with 4 batts, so I am good in case of emergency.

I will probably pick up a couple more 900 mah batts in a couple of months, as I hear the LR attys suck battery juice.

You will love your Riva. I hope DIY juice works well for you too.

I'm pretty sure you can mention where you ordered your kit from?

The EGO/Riva type batteries are extended batteries. E-cigs are generally named (or referred to) with there connector type, like 510 Riva or 901 Riva. There are other types of connectors, but those are the 2 I've seen Rivas sold with.

A passthrough doesn't use any of your existing batteries, it's essentially the same device but powered by USB. For a passthrough that works with all the kit you bought just order a passthrough designed for the same connector. If you have a 510 Riva order a 510 passthrough.

For a backup battery the place you bought your kit from probably sells individual Riva batteries. If not, there are a lot of places that sell them on the web. Don't own one personally so I can't recommend any vendors, shop around a little and verify that they have good reviews here and you should find a good place to get what you need.

Your order looks good and should last you awhile. If you like the cartos or LR attys I would get some more for backup when you get your spare batteries or passthrough.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies. So helpful.
I'm still on the edge of my seat awaiting the mail man.

I ordered my kit from Altsmoke. I noticed that they are part of the forums so I'm assuming it's OK to post their name.
Maybe that can narrow things down a bit. Should I be looking for a certain vendor for battery quality? I've been reading that the LR attys don't play well with certain setups but I'm still to new to understand what's what. Hopefully someone can chime in.
Altsmoke shipped both of my orders the same day which is exactly what I look for in a vendor. In fact, four of the five companies I've ordered from so far have shipped same day. Sweet!

The eGo/Riva is just a big battery that can (and normally does with the starter kits) use standard 510 atty/cart or cartos. There are "mega" cartos and atty/carts that can also be used with it, that won't work with a regular 510 battery.

I see the main benefit of an eGo/Riva passthru versus just a regular 510 would be if you wanted to use it with the mega sized attys and cartos.

As far as battery quality, just stick to known vendors that sell genuine, branded products. Plenty of info on vendors in the ECF. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and wait for your stuff to come in and get some hands on time with it before getting worried or carried away about mods. Once you figure out your new habit, you may find you need to go a different direction than you thought and definitely will make more informed decisions when you do.

Good idea there. Thanks for the advice. I just want to make sure I don't get all comfy with this and have something falter on me.
My package did come in the mail right after my last post and the battery is charging now. I took a couple puffs of some black tea and it's...interesting. I have a weird grainy feeling in my mouth. Like after you eat certain foods how your teeth feel like there's a grainy film on them. Is that normal?

did you remember to blow out the atty first? I've not had any grainy feeling from mine.

If anyone is still following my adventure I could use a quick hand.
I initially loaded up the ato/cart that came with my kit and was blowing out clouds of vapor. The taste was funky so I switched to a cartomizer. I've read and watched the videos on how to fill them and I tried a few ways but I'm getting the same result. I get no vapor from my carts. On top of that it is extremely harsh. I have kept the cart wet since I first got it but it just seems off. I also can't seem to fill the cart and NOT have the liquid in my mouth for the first few pulls afterwards.
For now I've loaded up the standard atty and cartridge and I'm getting a whole lot of vapor, no harshness, but weird flavor.
Any advice for a newbie like me? I feel like I must be doing something wrong.

They are 510 cartos.
First I tried to condom method but it seems like it might take some practice. The juice didn't seem to want to enter the cart. Then I tried the method where you take off the mouth hole piece and drip down the insides. I put in about 6 drops evenly but it's just way harsh and produces no vapor.
