[Sorry for the following wall of text!]
Hiya Folks!
I'm brand new to vaping, like many posting here are! I'm gonna list a couple of stats about myself before I start asking questions!
| 26-years-old | Female | Normal to Good Health |
1. I've never put a cigarette between my lips, not even playfully. I never liked the smell of it on other people, or any of the other things that came with it, including the very real health stigma. I don't judge people for their own decisions, but smoking was never my thing.
2. My significant other is an ex-smoker who sometimes falls off the band wagon during times of extreme stress. He just entered law school this passed semester and as one might imagine is really stressed. He's given in to temptation a few times, and it breaks my heart because I want him to be happy and above all healthy and around for a long time.
I know it's a very real addiction, and I try to be as supportive as I can be without full on enabling him.
3. In trying to help my sweetie through the stress and exhaustion of 1L, I started looking into vaping as an alternative for him. And as I did my research I realized that vaping was accompanied by a lot of rather delicious sounding e juices, and many conveniently with 0 Nicotine.
4. I myself suffer from some pretty terrible anxiety issues from time to time. I've seen a lot of people to help me out---but of all the things that have helped me---herbal supplements and scents (stuff like Badger Balm and Rescue Remedy) have been the most successful in calming a panic-attack that suddenly rears its ugly head.
This got me to thinking! There are lots of herbal, calming and good smelling/tasting vapes out there. So while helping my boyfriend out, I thought I'd give it a try!
All that being said~!
I did some looking through VapeCritic per the suggestion of a family member who lives out in Seattle and knows a pretty good bit about the "herbal" side of things. I came upon the V2 Pro Series 3. I looked for more reviews, and most people seemed to be pretty happy with it, for vapor production, as well as the vaporizing of loose leaf stuff. So I went for it! (I'm completely dumb to mods and all that fancy stuff). Took a few days for it to arrive, but they included some free eCig samples (1.8% Nic), so I was satisfied. My sweetie has reported that even just one hit from the disposables helps him to feel better. And he doesn't seem to be doing it compulsively, either. So that's good!
He doesn't really care much about the flavors (yet), and so after MORE research (PG vs VG, flavors, safety, etc), I settled on Virgin Vapors for my first e juice experience. Their staff has been insanely helpful, especially with some custom flavor requests I'm thinking of ordering from them.
I decided to go for juices from their Absolute Line (as there's no ethyl alcohol included in those) as well as 100% VG (yes, I know they're thicker than PG/VG blends and PG itself). From all of the reading and self-informing I've tried to do---PG allergies seem to be a very common thing. Unfortunately, I seem to be the sort that if SOME people have the allergy, I ALSO have the allergy. And I've seen some pretty extreme accounts of everything from mouth-sores, to skin rashes. Scary stuff!
I ordered a sample pack of three. Two fruity flavors, and one honey flavored juice. I think the fruit flavors need to steep for a while, but the honey one is absolutely DELIGHTFUL. Even my boyfriend likes it!
All three are
100% VG
0 Nicotine
Here's what's happened so far:
1. The day after I tried my first vape, I came down with a /terrible/ sinus infection. Started doing reading---saw that a lot of people have reported having sinus infections, gunky sinuses, etc. after having started for the first time. Though now I've started to get better, and don't want to blame the sudden sickness on vaping. So---I'm choosing not to. I'll revisit that again if I get re-sick.
2. After reading (this seems to be a theme for me, huh?), I learned not to inhale as you would a cigarette/..../etc, as you don't really need to, even if you have nicotine in your juice. However, even without inhaling---I've started to notice a bit of a chest ache. It focuses mostly in my upper chest/sternum---and I've been a little short of breath. It could be just the residual sickness I'm recovering from.
However, again---I've seen that a good number of people have had chest pain after starting. I know some folks will say "See a doctor"---but I've seen doctors recently enough and had bloodwork done to rule out heart problems for other issues I've had, and I've never had lung problems (jeez, I sound like a sick person!
).
I make sure to drink LOTS of water while vaping, knowing that dehydration is a real thing, and causes headaches, dry mouth, sore throat and blah blah blah. So I'm trying my best to be responsible and pro-active about the whole thing.
The Questions:
So finally! The questions!
1. Am I dumb for starting this quest to a more zen-like state through vaping?
2. Does anyone else vape non-nicotine juices for relaxation/aroma therapy purposes?
3. If so, what are your favorites?
3. Has anyone else had this chest pain experience with non-nicotine, 100% VG liquids? And does it subside?
Thanks in advance for any advice/help/tips/tricks you good folks can offer!
Sincerely,
A nervous, vaping newbie!
