So I have had Bronchitis for nearly 3 months. I quits cigs in mid Oct 2012. I have been to the doc once and the ER twice. I have been on a z-pack, an oral steroid drink once, a steroid shot once, Augmentin for ten 10 days, along with Prednisone for 5 days. Every time I get done with the medication it comes back. I have done a lot of research about all the drugs and Bronchitis, and found very little information that was good. Considering putting down the vaping thing for a while, but I really enjoy it... I know smoke is bad for Bronchitis, but unsure about vapor...Ive tried changing flavors, using less flavoring, vaping base only, and so on. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I really don't want to stop vaping, but it my be my next step, because I really like breathing more. Any personal knowledge/ experience would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and a doctor told me that sometimes when people quit smoking, they can develop asthma and/or allergies, so that is what my ext appointment will be about.

I read somewhere that PG when inhaled in vapor form was good for use as treatment of bronchitis and influenza.. I may be mistaken so don't quote me on it, but it may be something you would want to look into. I have reactive airway disease and I've had to go through the whole Prednisolone treatment, I also have an albuterol inhaler, but I have not had to use it because I vaped too much. Which leads me to believe that it can't be all that harmful. Again these are just my personal findings and I'm not a medical professional, I just have some messed up lungs lol

Hey Dave, sorry 'bout your breathing issues. I try changing my inhale method to not do deep lung inhales but puff on it more like a pipe letting the vapour waft around my mouth throat and face more and do only a slight/shallow inhale.

It's a hard habit to get into after smoking cigs for 40yrs. but after being diagnosed with emphysema a few months back and after cutting my anologe intake to 3/day for about a year previous, I've been absolutely smoke free for almost 3 months.

With our conditions nothing but fresh air in our lungs is preferred I would think. Cutting down on the amount of vapour actually inhaled deep into our lungs is best. But I'm no doctor. I've heard about other medical issues arising in folks after quitting smoking.

Quitting everything is always our best option, but smelling the vape is sure a lot nicer(and safer imo) than smelling smoke.:vapor:

I actually read somewhere on this forum that the " correct " way to Vape is to ONLY intake into the mouth and nose passages like pipe and cigar smoke. I thought it would take me forever to retrain myself to do this after 30yrs of smoking analogs but it only took me a few days. I don't inhale vapor into my lungs at all and am glad for it. After many many years of smoking analogs, not wearing dust mask at work and inhaling " other " smoke I don't want to put anything else in the old air pumps but AIR.

I am sure there are differences of opinion on the " correct " way to Vape though. Keeping the vapor in the mouth and nasal passages is my preferred way.

I don't think it's the vaping, but then again, I'm not a doctor. Try taking a hot shower at night and then boil some water on a pot and set it on a table. Drop a teaspoon of vicks vaporub in it and with a towel over your head (as a tent over the boiled water) breathe that for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Rub some vicks on your chest when you go to sleep. This is a home remedy that has been around families for decades and worth doing in conjunction with the antibiotics. Drink lots of water so your body flushes out the toxins in your system.

Hope you feel better.

Some time after I moved here, many months, I started having the same problem. Dr. gave me three rounds of antibiotics before he figured out it was caused by a common local fungus that many, many people here are allergic to. Been on an inhaler and pills ever since. The problem was that it would come and go as the environmental conditions changed, which sometimes seem to have no rhyme or reason. You need to have your doctor find out the root cause not only for your own wellbeing but before you spend all your vape money on ER visits. Wishing you good luck and a speedy recovery! :)

Hey, thanks everyone for the personal experiences and opinions. I will try some of the above mentioned for sure. I have been doing the Vicks and boiling water (even added some mixed menthol LOL) and it helps a lot at night. I also have a Scentsy? pot that I put water and vicks in, which also help. I do use the Albuterol a couple times a day, but I don't think it helps much. I am also going to talk to the doc about other possibilities (Fungus's and such)...My neighbor, who is a smoker, also has the same thing...so I'm definitely going to look into other environmental possibilities as well. We live in a small apartment complex; I have two boys and my wife, none of which have had any signs of illness. We have no pets nor plants, so I won't have to worry about that, but I have noticed AC (In my car, at work, and at home) has been causing breathing problems to start. Thank all of you for the suggestions. I just wanna breathe right again. Not to mention my allergies have screwed up my sense of smell, so none of of my vapes taste right lol. Maybe winter will knock it out? LOL Again, thank you all.

Oh, and a doctor told me that sometimes when people quit smoking, they can develop asthma and/or allergies, so that is what my ext appointment will be about.

I've had allergies and asthma for years and within 2 weeks of vaping I was off of my daily meds. I usually get bronchitis once a year.. I'm interested to see if I do this year or not.

I had chronic bronchitis from 46 years of smoking, and it miraculously cleared up the third day after I started vaping, for which I am thankful. I call it "bronchitis" because a doctor told me that about 10 years before. My personal term for it was "pain in the *** cough", and it usually followed a bad cold or flu, adding to the misery ...

I've read all kinds of things about propylene glycol, including that its supposed to inhibit bacterial growth. Not sure about that, never heard it directly from a credible medical professional, but I do know that something has changed. Three times since I started vaping, I have felt the early warning symptoms of a cold, scratchy throat and congestion (I work in a sealed building, and someone here is ALWAYS sick and spewing bacteria). In each case, I felt fine the next day, no symptoms, no cold. When I was smoking, I was doomed to maybe 2 weeks of being really sick followed by 2 or 3 more weeks of constant coughing ...

Has the PG suppressed the cold ? Hell, I don't know, I suppose it could just be that my immune system is working better now that I'm not inhaling burning tobacco anymore ...

To the OP, try the "mouth vaping" suggested by others, and look carefully into any other changes in your environment. Hope you feel better soon, coughing is no joke, I remember it all too well ...

I suggest vaping 100% PG or 100% VG to see if one of them seems to help. Some people have reactions to one or the other. I also wouldn't do any lung inhales, but you could try out retrohaleing to absorb the nicotine. I'd get some glass tanks / cartos and sterilize everything before going to bed and then let everything dry out for a full day before using it again. I'd do the same with my tooth brushes. I'd also switch to more natural and unsented cleaning products at home. Many people have issues with some of the non-food grade scents in cleaning products.

You also might want to look into a HEPA air purifier for you apartment or bedroom. They do wonders for reducing environmental issues. If you still suspect environmental issues, you could also buy a dust mite cover for your mattress and wash your bedding regularly in hot water. Many people have underlying allergies to dust mites, and these allergies can make you more susceptible to illness.
