I could swear that there was a BOV thread, but I can't seem to find it. Unfortunately, the economy sucks the procreation equipment of a mule, so there are a lot of self-employed contractors going out of business, and they hare putting their rigs up for sale. The more I'm seeing these trucks with the utility beds, the more I am being tempted to get one. Any thoughts about this type of rig?

As long as you had a 4x4 base, all should be good. Those beds are heavy though and it kills the gas mileage, so maybe a diesel 4x4??

And the BOV was part of the ZPOTW

Oh yeah. I swear, this forgetting stuff is really starting to catch up with me. Now I remember that's where it was. I swear, this forgetting stuff is really starting to catch up with me.

I've been scouting the truck enthusiast forums, and I'm really not seeing too much of a decline in mpg, as long as it's on a fuel injected heavy duty rig like an F350. The Ford enthusiasts seem to steer away from them on the F250s though. I'm seeing figures that range from 9 to 11 in town, and 14 to 18 highway. Averaging about 500 miles on the dual tanks.

I'm really not going to make this a daily driver, so it would just be packed and ready. Maybe a couple camping trips and scouting expeditions per year. Heck, I'm already getting around 10 in my Cougar. It won't phase me at all.

I think the utility truck would be better than a bus but not really a first choice. Even with 4 wheel drive, all that weight is going to not just affect mpg but it's ability to cross obstacles and kill the handling and trucks don't exactly do well in Formula racing circuits as it is. If you really want that much storage capacity in your vehicle, consider something lighter like maybe the GMC Safari in awd. You would be able to access your stored goods from INSIDE your vehicle instead of being required to leave your vehicle to access them. It's not as 'heavy duty' as a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, but it is based off the light truck platform for parts replacement purposes so you could add a lift kit for a little more ground clearance.

I was thinking about the inside access issue while I was falling asleep last night. I think I will be sticking with a truck, canopy, and containers in the bed. Either that, or an older rig with an easily removable top to get the open-bed usage. The thought of finding myself in a critical spot without the ability to access my supplies really freaked me out. It's worse than just not having them available.

I have already eliminated lots of stuff that I didnt show. I would like to drop the overall weight down some if possible. If I changed out my AMT Lightning, for a Ruger 10/22, it would save me some weight. The AMT is machined from stainless, where the ruger uses aluminum. I have both guns here and the ruger is much lighter.

Another heavy item is the food. It doesnt look like much, but it really has some weight. I am also thinking about losing the mess kit. I should be fine with just the fry pan and the canteen stove. Another item that is in the final bag but I didnt list, is a bottle of whiskey. I figure if I ever had to pull my own tooth or do some emergency sutures, having something to dull the pain a little might be nice, but I wonder if its worth the extra weight.

As far as money, the only money I have packed is $7 worth of quarters. I have always kept quarters in my kits- way before cell phones were so common. I guess I really dont need them. I know I also have way too many blades so I might lose some of those to save some weight.

Over all, I am pretty happy with the kit.

I've got a pint of Clear Spring in a plastic bottle in my bag right now. Great for many things like sterilizing wounds and utensils. And numbing various pains. :)

We watched an odd movie last night. It was called The Burrowers. It is a monster movie set in the old west. (Very different format.) All I could think about while watching it was what they were carrying with them on their horses.

Well I rearranged some things on the pack last night. I made it more comfortable to wear by removing the sleeping bags and tend from the stuff sack. They are all in individual sacks anyways, and I had them all crammed into another sack to keep them together, which made it like a big rock in the middle of your back. After I removed them from the main sack and just put them in the back pack, I may not have to lose any of the extra weight after all, its actually pretty comfortable now.

On a side note, I was going to list the entire rig (minus guns of course) on ebay, just to see if I could sell it, more for grins than anything. I had a blast putting it all together and now that its complete, I am bored. I started the listing last week and went back to read it, and it was a better write up than the one I did here. I should copy and paste it, but its LONG. Its easier to read, but you have to get past the salesman in me to read it. If anyone is interested, I will post it up.

Well, here is what I was going to list. Remember I was acting as a salesman for part of it.

The Ultimate Survival, Bug Out Bag, SHTF Bag, Disaster Bag, Zombie Apocalypse Bag, Hunting and Camping Bag.

I have put together what I feel is a complete Survival pack. One pack that does it all. Plenty of storage packs, plenty of supplies. It is set up as a long term, 1 person survival pack, but with a few cheap modifications, it can be used as a multi-person survival kit.

First, let me say that when this pack is fully loaded with all the gear, its heavy. It can be carried, but does require some effort. This is not a simple day hike pack and definitely not a light weight hiking pack. It is fully customizable to be used as a hiking pack and there is definitely enough gear, but the main purpose for building the pack was long term rural survival. Most of the gear leans towards that. Urban buggin out can be done with this pack, but I would trim it down significantly if used in an urban setting.

Because of the size and weight of the pack, I ended up buying a very good quality pack. The pack itself, with nothing loaded into it, weighs 12 pounds. Please keep this in mind if you want to bid on it.

I will be breaking the contents down into categories, then give a description of each piece. Some items are obvious and I wont spend a lot of time detailing them, some I will provide links, so you can read further explanations. All items will be described as "NIP", "NEW", NEW/USED" or "USED". The descriptions will be listed before each item. After that, I will list the color if applicable.

NIP= New product in package-never opened and has original packaging.

NEW= Brand new item, but removed from packaging. Item has been opened and checked, but never used.

NEW/USED= Item that is in brand new condition, but has been used. All original packaging has been discarded, but item is like new. More than likely, it was carried outside, just never used.

USED= Obviously, the item is in used condition. The item is still in good useable shape.

ALL ITEMS IN THE LISTING, "NIP" TO "USED", ARE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. IF ITS LISTED, IT WORKS AND NEEDS NO REPAIRS.

Some items were purchased here on Ebay, some were purchased from other online stores, some were purchased at local retail outlets. NONE of the items are for sale individually.

BAGS, POUCHES AND PACKS:

(NEW)(Black) Tac Force Rucksack Backpack. 15353 ci of cargo space. This is a large pack. Has removeable side pouches and the top pouch is removeable as well. Professional quality. 17 zippers, all have a braided camo paracord zipper pulls (added by me) as well as the original black cord zipper pull. The paracord zipper pulls are easily removed. The pack is also set up to be hydration compatable, has 2 areas to hold 2 different guns, and is covered in molle style webbing. To read more about this pack: Rucksack Backpack

(USED)(Black) Molle 3 day Tactical Backpack. All items listed fit into the Tac Force Backpack, but I am also including a smaller, Tactical backpack for trips where all the items are not needed. The pack is used, but no tears or rips. All zippers work as they should. The pack is covered with molle straps on the back and also the sides. One molle web has been altered to allow me to mount a knife sheath, but still works as it should. More info: Condor Tactical 3 Day Assault Pack #125 (Camping & Outdoor Equipment / Bags and Backpacks / Tactical Backpacks)

(NEW)(Black) Molle Deployment Bag. This bag has 2 zippered main packs and 2 side zippered pouches. It has a detachable shoulder strap. At the moment, I am using it as a First Aid pouch, because it is short and long and fits the pack nicely. The bag has a quick disconnect handle to carry it when its removed from the pack. Condor Tactical Deployment Bag

(NEW/USED)(Black) Molle shotgun scabbard. Has molle attachments, and fits between the main pack and side pouch. It has been altered to fit a Cold Steel Katana Sheath, but is in excellent condition. Will hold most shotguns and some rifles without scopes. I use it to hold a Ruger 10/22 and it fits perfectly.M.O.L.L.E. Shoulder Shotgun Scabbard, Military Surplus, Voodoo Tactical at Sportsman's Guide

(USED)(Black) Molle gadget pouch. 2 main sections with a quick clip enclosure and a zippered section. Good for cell phones, ipods, small tools etc. I used it for my "entertainment" pouch when hunting/fishing. I carried my zune player and earphones and extra batteries for the flashlights. MOLLE Gadget Pouch

(NEW)(Black) Molle canteen cover. Has molle straps on the back, has quick disconnect clip for main compartment and 2 velcro pouches. Black Molle One Quart Canteen Cover (Tactical Equipment and Tactical Gear / Molle Compatible Field Gear / MOLLE Compatible Water Carrying Systems / Molle compatible 1 Quart Canteen Covers)

(NEW)(Black) Molle .... Pack. 5 compartments- 1 main, 3 vertical side pouches and 2 zippered pouches on top. MOLLE .... Pack

(NEW)(Black) Molle .... Pack. 1 compartment .... pack. Has molle straps and quick clips. Amazon.com: MOLLE .... Pack - (Army Digital): Sports & Outdoors

(NEW)(Black) 2 Drop Leg platforms with holsters and pouches. There are 2 of these, identical except for the holsters. 1 holster is a right hand draw and the other holster is a left hand draw. Both holsters are adjustable to fit many different pistols (I have it adjusted for 2 full sized XD45's) and they also have an extra magazine pouch. Each platform also has a small pouch for handcuffs, but I use one for a compass and the other for misc items. There is also 2 knife/flashlight/magazine pouches attached (in addition to the extra mag pouch sewn to the holster) Unlike most drop leg systems with a single quick disconnect to remove the platform, these platforms have an additional stabilizing strap that gives the platform 2 points to keep the platform in place. Once attached to the waistbelt of the pack and then the leg strap attached, it really helps to stabilize the entire pack. Black Tactical Drop Leg Panel Holster/ Pouch/Strap LH | eBay plus an additional pouch not shown.

(USED)(Black) 2 additional knife/flashlight pouches. Both have flaps with a quick disconnect clip and both have horizontal velcro attachments on back.

Thats it for bags and pouches. Lots of room, tons of individual compartments. All of it customizable by the user.

Like the description shows, this is a pretty complete set up. You will have to add your own boots/shoes, underwear and firearms, but other than that, its pretty complete.

The listing is for fun. I am not deserate to sell the kit, just wanted to see if there was an interest. IF it sells, I will be building another identical set up. I know when I started to build the kit, I couldn't find a complete, ready to go set up, so I decided to list this one.

I am going to start the listing at 99 cents. There is a reserve set (no I wont tell you what it is). The reserve is the exact amount it cost me to build the kit, not counting shipping or gas. The Buy It Now, is my cost to build it, all shipping charges from all suppliers, plus the ebay listing fee, selling fee and paypal transfer fee. If it sells at the buy it now price, I break even.

The shipping charges, are estimated from UPS.COM, not inflated. It cost a lot because it weighs a lot. I am also including insurance in the shipping charges to protect both me and the buyer. You can pick up the items, free of charge.

If you want more pictures of a certain item, please send me a message. I will not wrap this kit for shipping until the end of the auction, for 2 reasons.

#1 I want to be able to take any pictures any buyers might want and dont want to have to unpack it and

#2, if it doesnt sell, I dont want to waste time wrapping it. Because of this, please allow me a couple days to get everything wrapped, boxed and shipped.

Yes its expensive, yes it weighs a lot, but its a complete kit. If you think you can build it cheaper (WITH IDENTICAL ITEMS) then please go ahead and build your own. Once you start pricing everything, and start figuring shipping costs, you will see the Buy It Now price is not inflated.

I had lots of fun researching and gathering items and waiting for sales on items. Now that the kit is complete, I want to build another.

NO INTERNATIONAL SALES.

MUST BE 18+ TO BUY.

That is the complete listing of everything you need, hands down. I'd add 2 things though, signal mirror (virtually weightless) and adjustable power binoculars for recon/silent communications. When you get the pics of it on you, I'm creating and stickying the post and pics and putting a link to this thread for any discussions. Have you weighed it assembled to find an 'exact' weight yet?

I love the kit Mutt - dump the little bandages and get something for major trauma. I have a small 10ml bottle of plain jane quickstop powder and 2 30gram packets of celox and a handful of kerlix gauze for puncture wounds. Also, bad water/bad food = ........ and your killing yourself with no immodium. Befriend a nurse bro, you need some roxynol for pain and phenergan or zofran or compazine for nausea in there also.
