So another "first world problem" here. As I wrote I finally succeeded in gluing things together. The magnetic door works. The problem is that it works very good. It's actually hard to get a fingernail between the door and the case!

I guess the ideal would be a kind of groove where the door meets the case. That way I could easily remove the door. But that would mean filing away the anodizing and leaving a blank spot. I guess I could paint it black though, might look ok.

Or I glue a kind of "rail" or something to the lid. Something like a 1mm line of glue or something. Just enough to pull off the lid.

Any other ideas? Suggestions? Should I just stop cutting my fingernails?

You could always carry one of these around...

I would grind a small slot at the bottom and paint it or use something like THIS or THIS

Dremel a small "dip" in the edge of the top where it meets the case. That way you'll be able to catch it with a fingernail or the edge of a fingertip. Touch it up with a little black enamel.

Looking for something new that I like. Watch this space for new wit, halfwit, nitwit...

Ok, I got my Cana mod gutted except for the atty connector. I got a few questions:

How are we removing the atty connector from the donor box. I was planning drilling it out but open to suggestions.

The 10mm X 1 Metric HSS Right Hand Thread Tap M10 X 1.0mm for the FD v3 what size of drill bit is being used?

9mm or 23/64 or 11/32 drill bit.

I was able to just press the old 510 out from the bottom. Otherwise I would have used one of the above drill bits since I needed that size hole anyway.

I use a quick clamp with a socket situated between the clamp and the top of the box (the socket provides room for the 510 connector to be pressed up out of the box).

I'm going to use a 12mm button but it will be as expensive as the box itself...

I got 2, a black one with no lights and a silver one with blue led, for $3.58 shipped from Sinapore. I could've gotten them from Amazon but they're $6-$9 each.

I'm surprised more people aren't using the 12mm buttons. I ordered a couple 2 weeks ago but still haven't seen anyone but High Voltage use these size buttons.

I really like those 12mm buttons KTM. Do you have a photo that shows how deep they extend into the box?

The only two problems with those is that they wouldn't work in my planned mod. I will be using an ocd 510 connector which is longer than both fat daddy's and VT so that a long body switch like that would hit the lower end of the connector.
The other problem (for me at least) is the throw on these switches. They are flat so you thumb will need to push the button in but I believe the travel is several mm. I'm considering a switch which is half the length and has a very short travel.

The problem in high quality switches is their obvious high price.

Is it really worth it? Not sure.

Get a VT 510 :p

I saw a pic of the button pressed and it looked like it was less than a mm of travel. They also have buttons that come out 1mm and is flush when pressed.

The guy from High Voltage posted that the button hole is drilled .4mm lower (towards the up and down buttons) for extra clearance from the 510.

I haven't received mine yet. I ordered them 2 weeks ago today so any day now.

Here's another pic of the High Voltage box

Thanks KTM. It does look tight, but like you said if you move the hole down a couple of mils I think it will give sufficient room to the 510.

HV said they moved the hole down 0.4mm so I don't think you really need to move it down too much. It looks like there would be enough room even if it was centered.

That green box is for a SX? board where did you get it? Also just to comment on the 12mm buttons, that is the size I use. Much more manageable inside a box and they have a great feel to them. This is what I have been using.

I wanted a button that was more flush.

These pics are not mine. I found them online and they're from a mod company called High Voltage.
