...And also what would you guys recommend building for a beginner?

Knowledge!

Study, research, and learn until you are completely comfortable you know what you are doing.

This is not an area for a trial and error education.

If you have the slightest doubt about your understanding of the electric principles involved or the build you are trying to achieve, HOLD OFF.

take some 3mm silica, double it over and hold it with a pin or paperclip to hold it stiff, put 5 wraps on it and slap it in that nimbus. should be around .8 ohms. fire the coil a bit to make sure it glows evenly. then soak it down, and KAPOW!
very simple.

I always suggest people should just worry about getting a normal coil working correctly, to help understand whats going on better before worrying about specialty or custom coils and wicks.

to this day i still make normal coils, i see no benefit to all this micro, mini, cotton and stuff. tried it, just dont see it. if you want to try all that stuff do it after you can successfully make it work under normal conditions.

I have an ohm meter 28g wire and silica wick. I'm using the nzonic v3 with the nimbus.

An ohmmeter is a definate +. You will get a better response when you provide some basic information. There is some danger involved with mechs and the people on this forum want to know that you are willing to learn, listen and are taking some basic precautions. Such as checking your coils and batteries.

That's the wonderful (and frustrating) thing about rebuilding. When you get it right (for YOUR taste) it's an awesome vape.
Like others have said..
Stay away from sub ohming until you have the equipment and knowledge to give it a try.
You may like it or you may not. Personally, I build between 0.7 and 1 ohm, unless it's going on a regulated device, then I'll build 1.4 ohm max.
Always torch your wire & silica before winding.
Torching the kanthal will release the tension in the wire and make it hold its shape muuuch better.
Torching the silica wick will burn off any impurities from manufacturing and help it wick better.
If you have to build with the device attached to your mod... Take the battery OUT first. Because sooner or later you will accidentally fire the mod causing either a burnt finger or heaven forbid a dead short.
After you have built a coil and before loading it with juice, pulse fire it. This will burn off any oils left from handling and show any hot spots. If you're using cotton, pulse fire it before installing the cotton.

Building micro coils is fool proof using a Coil Winding Gizmo. No heat.. squeeze.. heat.. squeeze yada yada. Just wind & install.
