OK,
i had bought an ego with clearomizers. the first one worked fine for a few days.
then,i started getting burned taste.
the second one i started getting burned taste the second day.
I bought a carto/tank which , again, worked for a couple of days
burned taste.

Now i bought an atomizer (rebuildable)
I am an electronic technician/engineer (25 years) so tech stuff is no problem.

tasted awesome for 2 hours.
burned taste again...
i am using a VG/PG mix seems kinda thick though
the wick doesnt appear burned, but the juice is kinda gummy looking.
3.7 v (EGO batt) at 2.4 ohms and i dont hold it down for too long...
the very first hit io had taken had given me such a throat hit
that i am watching carefully how long i hold down the button...

I also bought a vivi nova, but hadnt even used it yet
i am scared i am gonna screw up something
what am i doing wrong ?
i spent a lot of $ and will go back to cigs if i cant fix this...

thanks
Brad

Hi Brad Mayeux & welcome to ECF:)..yr problem is yr e-liquid..U descibed as gummy looking..that tells me yr e-liquid is very much VG base..ie Vg is a viscous liquid..U need to tone it down with Pg..i am using 70/30 PG to VG ratio..PG will give U good throat hits and VG produce thick vapor..if yr e-liquid is mostly comprise of VG..the wicking takes time to saturate..that means U need to pause be4 U take another draw on yr e-cig..if U R just using 1 e-cig to vape..can be the problem U getting, the burnt taste..yr clearomizer cannot cope with yr constant vaping ..hence i always uses at least 4 PVs to rotate and use..hope this help U overcome yr problem and stick to vaping..please do not go back to analogs..may i also suggest U get this type of cartomizer 5pc New CE2 XL Steel Cartomizers for 510/eGo ..no filler and so easy to fill without leakage ..and will last a lot longer than any cartomizer or clearamizer..regards mafig

Thicker/darker liquids tend to gum up coils, wicks, and filler much faster than thin/clear liquids. If you're having this issue with clearos you'll likely have it with the vivi nova because it's basically the same thing.

FWIW I used clearos for a while, then a MAP tank(a tanked clearo pretty much), and now use a vivi nova. Because of this, and personal preference, I tend to vape PG-heavy liquids. Some liquids wick great for me and I can go a long time without experiencing burnt taste and having to clean/dryburn, while my other liquids(darker/thicker stuff usually) will gum up the coils and wicks quickly and taste bad after a day or so.

My current liquid is 70/30 and a light amber color out of the box and ran fine through my vivi nova but it steeps fast. Within days the liquid becomes very dark and starts resulting in burnt taste every so often. With my other normal liquid, a clear 70/30 spearmint, I don't have this issue at all.

Braddon't give yet, there is hope. Vaping can be immensely more enjoyable thansmoking if you give it a chance. I have had cartos last a week+ and some last afew hours. You could have a bad batch. I never had a lot of luck withclearomizers when I first tried them a year or two ago. I recently got a vivinova svt and figured out what I've been missing. It is so easy to use, go aheadand open that up and give it a shot, it might change your mind.....justremember to tilt it over every now and then before you take a drag to get juiceinto the wick near the top so you don't get a dry hit.

What kind of rebuildable are you using and how is it set up? Most people don't recommend and eGo with reubuildables.

EGo are generally far underpowered on an RBA, so thats probably not that cause of burnt taste.

That said, if you rolled a really bad wick and dont tilt, eventually it will burn.

DUDE I have been there. The last 2 months I have been using rebuildable attys. I have used clear-os, cartos, vivis, every style every brand. Yesterday I nailed it. After a ton of cash in parts and countless hours of rebuilding attys. Its the mix. The thinner it is the easier it if for the e liquid to seep into the wicks. So more PG should do the job, if you are super parcial to using only VG mixes, experiment with some dis-tailed water; however be careful a little bit goes a long way just add one drop at a time.

thanks for responses...
hardware...

255 Phoenix Rebuildable Atomizer V3
Bouge F-16
EGO 3.7 1100mah
CE4+ clearomizer....

i had cleaned the clearomizer giving me an extra day.

i watched a LOT of videos.
i tilted it, waited 4-5 mins, sucked air through it...

ATOMIZER
i REALLY want the atomizer to work, i dont mind dripping,
Im not sure if i am using it properly though ?
2-3 drops on the wick ??
it may be too think, it is a different juice, i will try to thin it.
if i can rebuild, it will save me $

TANK
The F-16 bouge i think is not getting enough juice.
i "SUCK" air before a hit, and see little bubbles,
but only coming through one hole (it has 2)
i actually washed it out, didnt help much.

From what i see of other people, mine looked clean. the paper was white
air hole was "see through". i had used it for like 2 days
cleaning helped a little, not much.
i was able to get a few hits and put up with a small burned taste
then it got worse again.

I bought 5 new carto's. think i will put 4-5 holes in them

I dont mind doing a bit of work,
or even spending $ up front for a good unit
but i want to keep recurring costs down,
and have something i can count on

thanks again
Brad

you didnt mention anything about priming your cartos other than puffing on them for a little bit
you should see a lot more than a few bubbles when you do this
4-5 holes is WAY to many in a properly prime carto, it would prob end up flooding it
you should prime it until the filler looks decently saturated by plugging the bottom hole and sucking on the drip tip like a straw so MANY bubbles comes out

a good video can be found here: How to prime and fill a DCT (dual coil Cartomizer tank) - YouTube

if your tank is bigger than 3mls, ignore what she says about how much liquid should be drained while priming and just wait until the filler is saturated, you should be able to see the color if its not a clear juice

I can't agree more. There is a balance of the pg/vg/thickness of the wick/opening to the wick etc and when it's right, it could be really good. Bottom coil also wicks much better and is the trend now.
When the coil is burnt to dark, better clean it or recoil.

    No you can't
    1. Cotton wicks let them soak in tank (juice) before useing.
    2. Cotton wicks thin juice soaks in faster.
    3. Don't burn cotton wicks with high voltage.
    4. Let your device rest 5 min every so offen to soak up the juice.
    5. If your useing cotton braid wick use a pin and unraveal the wick into lots of strains.
    6. Most important prime wick before useing for first time.

As was said before, your wick looks saturated. If you are starting out good and then developing dry burnt hits, then wicking is probably too slow for the voltage. I vape 80pg/20vg with no issues on a Vision Vivi Nova 2.8 ohm coil at 3.7v on a Provari. I use 3 ohm Boge cartos sometimes and vape them at about the same voltage.

My favorite method for saturating a carto is this one. You can use this method for a punched carto since the holes are covered by the condom sleeve.
