i was surprised you went for the joye cartos. too inconvenient for you.
I bought
three ego cartos to test last month. Used one and actually liked it (great TH) but just couldn't see myself dealing with needles on a daily basis.
I'll try anything, well, almost anything, one time. I spent one day with a Joyetech cartomizer and I have mixed feelings about it. It was very nice out of the box, clean, crisp taste, nice vapor. A refill wasn't too bad, I have some prior experience with the Mega eGo cartos so I knew what I was doing. I used both a syringe with an 18 g needle and an oiler bottle, both work. The problem with the oiler bottle is that I don't know how much eliquid actually goes in, so that was a bit confusing. I threw out that inner cap--I'm not sure why it's there. Refilling is easier without it--I can stick my needle into the fill chamber without removing the end cap (thank you, Kent, for the tip.) Unfortunately, after a couple of refills, I started getting this dreaded off taste--plastic, chemical, burning, whatever. So I took my hammer to it and sure enough, even though the filler was clean, the coil was a gunky, burnt, smelly mess. I'm not sure what the source of that burnt taste was, but I found threads of the filler stuck to the coil. I have a feeling that when one sticks the needle several times into that polyfill, some of it is being forced down and into the coil, which cannot be a good thing.
My impression is that this is not an improved cartomizer but, rather, an atomizer and a cartridge combo made worse. I have a Mega eGo atomizer and a cartridge; they don't work out of the box, they need a bit of modding because they leak (well, mine did). But I had some blue foam squares and made a simple spring mode and that took care of the leaking problem. The filling was easy; I put 40 drops into the cartridge, added a piece of blue foam and I vaped for hours (thank you, Kent, for the tip). Cleaning is easy, I have access to all the parts of my atty-cart combo, I can remove the filler and rinse it clean, I can soak or dry burn the coil, and I don't need a syringe to refill. So, I think I'll be using this for special occasions, but I'll stay with cartos for everyday, on the go, carefree vaping. Tru-Vapor, Bauway and Boge are my current favorites. I had no luck with LR cartos--they run too hot for my taste and I burned a few, so I gave up on them, but I know that many of you use them successfully. It's just a matter of personal preferences; I like cooler vapes.
Besides, I can't imagine myself going to a meeting or dinner with a syringe and a gram scale in my purse. Or have those things in my car and try to refill at a red light, or in a traffic jam somewhere on the 405...

[LGD, I want that blue winking guy back, too.] Not even in our laid back SoCal...
