So I've had my new atomizer a grand total of one day and I am getting nothing but the nasty burnt taste every drag. I have tried fully draining it and blowing it out, dripping it, using a cart, dripping AND using a cart, all fully draining in between and still just a nasty burned taste.

This seems to be a common problem with 510s. I'm on the verge of flooding it and still nothing.

I've looked down into the atty and there's nothing stuck in there, there can't already be any kind of build up after 1 day. Is there anything else I should check or do I have to shell out another £10 for another atty which might well do the self same thing? This cig is starting to put me off vaping :(

Any suggestions welcome

Thanks guys

A blown out or cleaned standard 510 atomizer needs around 5 drops to get up and running.
Then maybe 2 or 3 drops to keep it going after that.

A 510 LR atomizer needs more drops, but I'm guessing it isn't an LR atomizer?

Also, you say you've filled it to the verge of flooding it.
What is telling you that it is on the verge of being flooded?

Your atty sounds ok. Depending on the juice you're vaping, the atty could be dirty. Sometimes, after heavy use for one day, I have to dry burn my atty. Some folks don't like dry burning, may not be good for atty, but my Joye 510 attys are doing well after 4 months. Here's the link, but be careful not to burn out your atty. :)

If you're not comfortable with this, you might want to try cartomizers, though some folks clean those too.

Other Places
White vinegar bath, rinse with hot water, add a drop or 2 of lemon juice straight into it, let it sit for 10 minutes, hot water rinse again, let dry overnight, give a quick dry burn, then add some plain vg or pg to it and vape off the vinegar/lemon if any are leftover. Sit in a condom or small container, add enough juice to it so that it comes halfway up the tube, let sit 20 minutes, blow out, drip 2-3 drops and go. Seems like alot but it works for me doing this and saved a bunch of atomizers in the past when I used to use them.

Cartomizers are not a waste of money. One carto can last weeks if you're using a clearish juice in them. Plus, they hold 1ml or more juice versus your cartridge that only holds .5ml. They can be refilled until the draw gets tight on them then either toss it or clean it.

As an update, I completely drained the atty and dripped it with 5 drips which seems to have improved the situation. Still running very hot though. Funny thing is when I drained it, I blew into the battery end holding a tissue underneath it and it was like a flood of fluid coming out, like a constant stream for about 1 second :S How did that much fluid fit in there and still taste burned?

Hmm maybe I'm misunderstanding what cartomizers are, I was under the assumption that they were a pre-filled cart and atomizer stuck together and inseparable so when the cart ran out you had to chuck the cart and attached atomizer since they couldn't be refilled :S Am I being a complete noob thinking that? lol

Cartos are meant to be disposable, but through regular cleaning, folks prolong their lives. According to an ECF poll, most people get 1 to 2 weeks out of them, some longer of course. They are, as you say, an atomizer plus cart. Different vendors sell pre-filled as well as empty cartos. Nothing wrong with getting pre-filled cartos, if you like the quality and flavor, and tossing them after 1 use, if you can afford it. Most folks here refill them.

Cool, I've ordered a cartomizer to try out, as you say they're pretty cheap so if it's not my thing no big loss :p

As for the problem I've been having with my 510, turns out I've been the victim of an embarrassing incident. Basically, my brother admitted this morning that he'd been pinching my liquid then watering it down so I wouldn't notice :S so I've been vaping liquid mixed with water which has probably screwed the atty big style.

He will be beaten at a later date lol.

Water in the atty is no problem. I clean attys with water all the time and evaporate the water afterwards. Therefore, juice + water is no harm. As long as you don't "pop" the coil in it and it still heats, it's alive! The juice is another story.
