I have a Smok V8 Stick, using the M2 .15 ohms coil. I sometimes get a harsh burnt taste in between vaping, even if it's a new coil. I use 6mg nic juice. What could be the problem? Thanks

Hi Sunitha. Welcome to the ECF.

That Harsh, Burnt Taste is almost Always caused by the Wick not being able to provide Enough e-Liquid to the Coil. So the Coil can get Hotter than it Should. And when the Coil gets Hotter than it should, it Burns the e-Liquid.

Cause of this can be...

Using Too High of a Wattage.
Not Enough Air Flow.
Not Enough or Too Much Wicking Material in the Coil.
e-Liquid is Very Thick like a High VG e-Liquid.
Back to Back Hitting or Very Long Draw Hitting.

... or can be some Combination of these.

The Easiest thing to do is to just Dial Back the Wattage you are using and see if this Helps. Unfortunately, on something like the SMOK V8 Stick, you can't change the Wattage.

So when you Can't change the Wattage, you might try a Coil-Head with Higher Ohms (resistance). Like maybe 0.25 Ohms. And Open Up the Air Flow a Tad.

If that Doesn't work, you might consider moving to a Variable Wattage (VW) Mod. Because with VW Mod, you can Fine Tune the Hit you get be moving the Wattage either Up or Down.

What vg/pg ratio are you using?

When I used the baby beast coils and high vg juice, I would have to poke a couple holes in the wicking through the side ports with a needle to let it absorb the juice fast enough. This may be a technique you may need to utilize.
Vg/pg is 30/70. Thanks, I will try this technique.

Are you sure your e-Liquid is 30% VG | 70% PG? And not the Other Way Around?

Because 70% PG is Very High PG. And Many would find this type of e-Liquid Harsh no matter what you did.

Airflow, poking a hole in the coil since you can't prime it, and yes, since your wattage is fixed, you may need to play around with a different resistance coil, your draw technique (if you take long and frequent draws your coil and juice and tank may heat up leading to inconstant wicking and or slight burning. Etc.

Good luck, I might consider investing in a variable wattage mod, and honestly if you are looking to upgrade, consider an external battery and charger for said battery (get at least two so you can swap them out.)

You can probably get a rather nice mod during July 4th sales, fairly inexpensively. It doesn't have to be Smok, although if you like smok, have at it also you don't have to get another tank, either although it never hurts to have a backup setup.

For more on batteries if the idea interests you, go here:

https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/blog-entry/baditudes-blogs.7609/

You don't have to read everything but in Mooch's blog you will find a chart that lists reputable battery suppliers and batteries that will work for your vaping style.

Also, you don't have to do this immediately if you are overwhelmed ATM and just want your vape to work right, but if in the future you want something a bit more adjustable, well knowing what battery will work for your purposes and where to obtain it is kinda important, but again, you don't have to do any of this right this second, either. Etc.

Mostly, when I used these drop in coils, absolute number one problem I used to find with them is not enough juice in the coil before you start vaping. Even after priming the coils with some juice (not enough to drown it!) you might indeed have enough in there for a vape or two, just, but it's maybe not fully primed enough.

My routine with them, prime the coil with a few drops of juice on the inlet holes, insert coil, fill tank, let it sit for 15 minutes then, before actually vaping, do a few light draws on it with the mod powered off, this should ensure the wick is fully primed with juice. In my experience you really need break them in gently and long enough to avoid getting dry hits, getting maximum flavour and prolong the life of the coil, once they're burned they're shot.

Def agree on the external charger. Much safer and better. The Nitecore SC2 is superb and relatively cheap. SC4 if you want to charge 4 batteries. They can be set to charge slowly and have a voltage read out which will assist in checking battery health.

Just a thought, if you do go for an external charger, don't get the SC4 if you think you might ever need to charge 20700 batteries. Lots of new mods coming out now that can take 20700s. The SC4 bays are not long enough. The Xtar VC2/VC4 chargers however can take 20700s easily with room to spare.
