Too many volts or watts my friend. You have burned your wick on your protank. When you install the next Head/coil ( a new one)..lower your volts/watts way down and vape a few hits....then raise the volts up a little at a time until you find the sweet spot. You will know if you have gone over the sweet spot, cause it will start to taste burnt......then again, it could be that it needs cleaning.ay want to try that first.

There is a learning curve to this for everyone. My sweet spot for those 1.8 ohm coils is about 3.4 to 3.7 volts. I also clean my protank heads daily for longevity and a better tasting vape from day to day.

Good luck to you

Wow! As I said I have not changed it at all. The volts are set at 3.7 which I didn't think was high. I'll change out the coil and see what happens.

Did you know:
Vaping for extended periods on a single coil can slowly cause a collection of partially cooked e-liquid on the coil?
Did you know Vaping at to low a voltage setting can cause this faster?

Did you know - Often you can Vape through a Burnt taste?
If it is brought on sudden an was working fine, often you can:
A) cup a hand around the base of the tank and take a few power off draws. This will saturate a dried wick.
b) Turn the power up a bit and take several long draws.(just exhale them) to clean off excess collected on a coil/wick.

Did you know:
Removing as little as 1/4 of 1 flavor wick may be all that is needed to get a dry hitting tank to perform Great?

Now you know a few things that may help along the way.:)

Ill tell you a little protank secret.... Put a shot glass out on your counter top with a half inch of 90% or so alchohol or Vodka. Every day, unscrew the head, throw it in the shot glass and pick up another clean dry head and put it on your tank.

A little while latter.. (hour or more) get that head out of the shot glass, put water in your mouth and from the bottom, spray water through the head ( dont do it the other way around, gunk may clog it up),,,, then lay it on a paper towel and forget about it. Tomorrow when you change it out again,, the one from yesterday will be completely dry and ready for use.

I dont use protanks anymore but I have theo people in my house that do still use them.....that has been a ritual around here for several months. It works well.

If they ever get so bad that it does not work anymore...dont throw them away. Sooner or later you might decide to start to rebuild them and you wil never need to buy a replacement again.

My twso cents anyway...

No, I did NOT know and thanks for the education!
As I said in the OP first thing I did was look at the coil because I figured it may be the problem. Did not appear to be gunked up as I have seen on my EVOD. As of now, I am only using this one in the evenings after work. I'm afraid I'd break it if I took it with me. LOL

Now for a couple of questions since I have the smart folks here. What voltage would you suggest? I had it at 3.7 and I am vaping a dark liquid so build up on the coil happens. I don't want to go too low and have it happen quicker as you say but don't want to burn the coil either. Although I am only using it in the evenings for now, I do vape a lot I suppose.

I have done this with my EVOD coils. :toast:

Vaping darker juices, I am usually around 6.8-7.2 watts.(wicking dependent) This figure is output and Voltage would need to be figured by the resistance.
In the neighborhood of 3.7-3.9v
A good rule of thumb is about 2 volts over Ohms reading.(Reading-not rating) A 1.8ohm could be between 1.6-2.0ohms in spec.

It starts sounding complicated but is not really. Ease up in power while taking several vapes at each point. Should the vape go harsh, back down a step and see it it corrects in a few vapes. The maximum power you can continually vape without Dry/burnt hit is probably the sweet point for good flavor and best performance.

Dark e-liquids, you should rinse tank and swap wick head at least every 2nd tank. Things can turn suddenly once wicking slows.

ETA - A coil can go out of spec suddenly. This can cause sudden Harsh conditions(shorting) or poor production(Loose connection) Without a way to confirm your resistance it becomes all guess work.
