I don't know whether this has been sent back yet but, it sounds very similar to the problems described in this thread. This seems to have fixed it for me. Take the top and bottom completely off. That means removing the screw on the inside of the top. Take a Q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol and clean the top and bottom thoroughly. Then clean the threads and barrels ends top and bottom.

That's what worked for me.
