Everytime I try to drip it seems like I get the atty flooded and end up with a mouthfull of juice ... and I am only doing two drops! Methinks I am just doing it wrong ...

Quite possibly. Three drops is really the limit for my 510. If you're running a supermini or something it could be a one drop limit. If two floods the atty, then one drop is the way to go. Regardless, if you're drawing on an automatic you'll need to be extremely careful.

I'm really afraid of ruining my atty that way.
Your atty will be fine. Dripping (or overfilling a cart, for that matter) can destroy an automatic battery, but the worst you'll do to your atty is have to blow it out.

How many drops? And how many puffs do you get from those drops?
How many depends on your atty. It's about 2-3 for a mini, less for a supermini, more for a penstyle. If you flood it, blow it out and try one less drop. The puffs are just as variable. Anecdotally, I get the same puffs between "refills" with dripping as I do just topping off.

As a side note: I haven't seen any difference in flavor (aside from a lack of burning cart filler), vapor production, draw, or anything else. Dripping is really just a way to avoid using carts, so if carts aren't annoying you then you're not going to get much benefit out of it. It's the chain-vapers (me!) who puff away all day that are going to see the most benefit out of this as it eliminates the pesky burning filler and wasted liquid from spilling/overfilling/whatever.

After messing with carts for a very short time, I tossed them into my junk case and started dripping. Trying to get vapor through a cart is like sucking through a marshmallow--they only come between me and my nicotine. They filter, they stifle and they make a general mess. Just suck on that atty and you get vapor just the way God intended it to be. LMAO Okay, dropping the melodrama, just drip a couple of drops directly on the atty. I hold the bottle a quarter inch over the atty, see a full drop emerge, then actually touch the arch of the atomizer with the drop and repeat. I'm set for a number of puffs before I have to do it again. Don't drip and drive--great way to rear end someone.

I do both now. I use carts mainly at work. I guess I have a good routine going with them as I rarely have any problems using them. I use the straw mod and I get quite a few hits before I have to top off and I always drip a drop or two on the atty too. Now with my Prodigy I only drip. Going on alittle more than 4 months using the same two attys.:w00t: No major cleaning involved, just blow them out once in awhile and make sure I don't let them get too hot.:D

I'd like to see an atomiser designed specifically for dripping; the space where currently the cartridge connects could then be filled with extra metal mesh thereby allowing more drops to be added at a time.

Atomisers designed specifically for dripping
That's an interesting idea, kinabaloo! It kind of reminds me of the Vapor King design - where the atomizer (actually in a cartomizer) goes THROUGH the filler and not just touching one end.

It would basically be an easily refillable cartomizer? With the filler AROUND the atomizer coil, contantly keeping it wet.

Have you seen the E-dobbits (you'll have to do a search, I can't post links yet). They look ideal instead of dripping.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-cigarette-suppliers-forum/31850-e-dobit-update.html

The idea is interesting. It's effectively the same as dripping, but would be less accident-prone while moving. I'd have ordered some in if it wasn't for the negative experiences being posted about the material it uses to transfer liquid. Since the idea is to make dripping easier the maintenance of the "dober" material seems counterproductive. I still watch the thread for improvements, though.

The atty made specifically for dripping would be awesome. The reason we get such incredible battery mods is that they're made for vapers, not smokers. Unfortunately the atty/cart section of the PV is lagging quite a bit behind in adapting to how people actually use these things.

I ditched the filler the day after I got the 510. It worked against the throat hit, vapor, etc. So, I drip. BUT, I still hate fussing with this thing with the dripping, etc., so I'm getting the VK. I just can't stand putting that much work into an electronic cigarette. If the VK fails too, then I'm done with PV's for now (forever?) because I'm out of cash. :D

I use a 510 most of the time and the 801 when I need a cart that'll really last a long time. Once I got a rolled PTB mod right (I'll post pics once I get a camera that'll do macros lol) instead of dripping 2 drops on my 510, I drip 7 in the cart time after time. No leaking or burning. The vapor and flavor is just as good.

But yeah, I'd love an atty that you could drip 5+ largish drops at a time. That would be worth it.

Anyone else decide to just chuck the filler and drip? (I know you're out there!)

I realized that just about any filler I tried with a 510 sucked up a cart of juice, yet only the top half gets used by the atty and I have to top off or drip regularly anyhow. So, I've removed the filler and just drip! Life is so much less frustrating now! LOL :D
i did that the moment i got my 901 tried carts but Dripping was so much better the flavor yummy and no wasted juice.

I trashed all my filler about a week or so ago. I tried the PTB, Shredded PTB, straw and a few other mods, the end result was the same, topping off the cart every few drags. So now I just drip, it can be a hassle while driving, but I know which lights I'm going to be sitting at for a min and start preparin before I get there!

I drip whenever I can. It's the best, obviously.

But when I can't drip, which is most of my day, I am now using the http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cartridge-mods/27723-eheim-filterpad-mod.html (The mod gets tweaked a bit throughout the thread, so make sure you read more than the first page)

I've tried all of the cart mods, and this is the only one that works well for me. It's basically large-cell reticulated foam that they use for fish tank filters. It wicks better than PTB, in my opinion. It's easy and quick to make, easy to clean and restuff, and keeps the flavor all the way through until the cart is dry. It's also very cheap.

If you haven't tried it, it's worth a shot for the times when dripping just isn't practical. I do a lot of driving, so it's been great for me.

On your blog I noticed you are reccomending people to use hydrogen peroxide to clean thier attys.
Well I just thought I should let you know there was or is a guy on this forum who tested many solutions for cleaning attys, and he expressed very clearly that hyd peroxide should never be used as it was killing the attys. He swore by crest mouthwash (blue )

I agree with this post, in it's entirety.

But not only that, I will also add the following...

I just now filled a cartridge stuffed with blue foam, which I had just rinsed in hot water and squished between paper towels to dry, with nothing more than a dropper bottle.

Usually I use my syringe, but I decided to try it without any help at all.
No paperclips, no straws, no toothpicks, no holes in the cartridge, nothing.
And it filled all the way up, without any help from me at all.

My poor syringes are going to die a slow and lonely death.
:(
