When queried about the "public health" stance on e-cigs and the reply was:
"Nevertheless, according to the man in charge of trying to stop Egyptians from smoking, Mohamed Mehrez, director of the tobacco Control Department at the Ministry of Health, smoking is still smoking whatever form it takes. "We take the WHO and FDA recommendations very seriously," Mehrez says, "and they have shown that these products negatively affect users' health, as well as the health of passive smokers around them."
Al-Ahram Weekly | Features | Up in e-smoke?
The ECA is mentioned as "the industry body" and attempts to refute the WHO and FDA. We can all see the same story replay over and over again as the grip is made tighter and tighter, city, by city...ad nauseum. Our enemies are ever predictable and I am ever the rebel.
One is left to wonder why there is a Director of tobacco Contol and a whole department dedicated to irradicating smoke to begin with in tough economic times. Why has tobacco control become a billion dollar industry based on pamphlets, posters, and a few classes given? Does anybody care what their tax dollars are being used for? This is Egypt, how about some real medical care or dentistry endeavors? The world has gone mad over a little vapor!8-o
