Stupid question do I need a midi controller ? I have the PC, the old Apple and a MIDI keyboard. If I were to take ownership of a midi controller could I have use for it!?

You can pm me if you have questions about midi, but basically all you need to do is get a midi cable the plugs into the game port, and hook it up to the controller, if you have multiple midi devices, get a midi sport hub
The yamaha dd-55 is inexpensive and lets you create more natural drum patterbs then programming or using a keyboard

Very good advice.

Check out the M-Audio Trigger Finger, as well.

Good pad response, and it gives a better feel than traditional keyboards, in my opinion.

I'm a semi-amateur guitar and bass player. I almost joined a rock band called Durty about 5 years ago, but my appendix burst the week before my first practice, and I had to bow out. I couldn't even hold my bass for a couple weeks cuz it would press right against my gut, where the incision was. I play an Epiphone Es335, a Fender Squire telecaster w/ humbucker pickup at the bridge, an Epiphone Thunderbird bass, a beautiful old Framus archback acoustic, and a Takamine 12 string acoustic. I used to have an Ovation acoustic bass, and a doubleneck SG, but that thing weighed a ......n ton! Traded that one in for funds for the 12 string, and traded the Ovation for funds for the Thunderbird.

Hey man, I really dig the vibes! I really liked the Nate Wilson Group. I was recently in a band called Karizmata and I'm currently working on some new stuff. For now, I have some old stuff on my site if you would like to check it out.

Nice tunes v2x! Heavy riffs ftw!

Isn't music the best?

Hey if you guys (musicians and non-musicians alike) have a spare 1.5 hours and want to watch a free documentary, I highly recommend "Before The Music Dies".

Basically it explores the "music" industry today. It's quite sobering but inspirational at the same time.

Hulu - Before the Music Dies

Music is the universal language....we all need to fight to keep it alive. Unfortunately it has become less about music and more about pop culture, but there is hope.

Please watch it!

Featuring Dave Matthews, Erykah Badu, Eric Clapton, Elvis Costello, Branford Marsalis, North Mississippi Allstars, Doyle Bramhall II, Widespread Panic, and many others.

been playing guitar since i was 9 years old and completely self taught. well, almost self taught.........my dad showed me how to play "the streets of london" the 1st time i ever picked up a guitar which was one of his that he gave to me. i also play the bass, a bit of piano and the drums.
played for various small time bands on the east london pub circuit and done a few gigs in the good old USA when i was working over there.

dont get to play as much these days since getting married and having 2 kids but when i do im confined to the spare room with a set of headphones!

at one stage, i had over 15 guitars just in one room............but the wife soon changed that! lol

now im left with a Gibson LesPaul, Fender strat, Crafter acoustic and a Crafter acoustic bass as my 4 main guitars, plus 3 others thats been so long since ive used them i cant even remember what make or model they are! (nothing special though)

had to get rid of my amps and other general equipment (damn wife again) but im left with a few effects pedals, a dunlop wah wah, line 6 pod and a zoom MRS home recording studio.

on these videos you can hear a couple of songs that i recorded. i play every instrument and sing all the vocals (badly! lol)
they are my versions of 2 libertines songs that i love:-

"cant stand me now"

YouTube - SMOKE Vs VAPOUR - RING BATTLE!

"hereos" (just a small part of the song i used for the intro)

YouTube - E-CIG SMOKE RING TUTORIAL

i didnt play the drums (no way the wife is gonna let me have a drum kit again!) but i did create them totally from scratch. i have electric drum pads which i used to record all the main beats, fills etc. i then spent about 15 hours sampling and joining them all together to create the complete drum track.

cheers,

scott

Nice one igetcha, whats the home studio like and, you guessed it, do I need one? I got an old Mac with garage band and a loadsa addons, a midi keyboard(not a Yamaha or anything fancy but its a great lil thing to play with hehe) and a Yamaha USB midi adapter!

I saw hardware midi synths on eBay, I take it if I had one I wouldn't need a compter but would be stuck with the sounds in the box? Is there any place in my little setup for maybe a cheap analog synth where I could plug the PC into it and then output it to a tape recorder? I hate twiddling the knobs on the screen hehe!!

I don't really play the keyboard very well but loooong delays and effects and whatever are fun to play with!

hi mate,

this is the home recording studio that i have:-

MRS-1266

i have a few different ones but this is by far the best one that i own. i got it when it 1st came out a few years ago and i think i paid about £650 for it...... but im sure you could get it miles cheaper now!

when it comes to midi, im not the best person to ask...........in fact, i aint got a clue about midi!
by the sounds of it "K sound crew" uses midi a lot so maybe shoot him a message with those questions.

the zoom has a massive amount of effects for guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards etc etc plus an equally massive amount of effects for each track etc.
it also has the built in drum builder so you can make the whole drum track from scratch. tap in the beat, then replay it and tap in the symbol, then replay it and add the snare etc etc until you have one complete beat. then do the same for the fills etc. once you have all the segments recorded you can add them all together to form a complete drum track. its brilliant the way it does it and sounds so much better than just using generic preset patterns. it allows you to listen to your fave song and then (painstakingly) recreate it from scratch!

the zoom was worth every penny in my opinion!

cheers,

scott

Mostly vocals for about 10 years, though I also play acoustic guitar :) Got a 30 year old 6-string Alvarez (my favorite baby!) and a 12-string Alvarez which I just love! Also have an Ibanez AE which I'm fond of, but nothing compares to the sound of the older Alvarez.

Haven't performed in about 3 years and miss it! (well... sometimes) ;)

Just saw this thread and thought I'd add my info..

I've played guitar for a little over 20 years. Keyboards and sax for even longer. I've been in a locally signed (in Seatttle) band for about 5 years, and I do lots of other side projects. I usually play through an Orange tube head and various combinations of cabs. I shy away from effects, using only a compressor and wah pedal sometimes. My main axe is a 1979 yamaha SG2000. Here's a link to my main band:

Evil Twin Rocks!

Here's a video we made a few months ago. I'm the guitar player that is *not* the lead singer. :)

MySpace Video - Evil Twin's Video Channel & Video Clips

Lots of cigarettes in that video, which was filmed a few months before I got my e-cig.

Guitar + Bass + Piano, been playing about 28 years. Been in a few bands during that time, now just play at home and a very rare open stage night.

Some of my music over the years in link below.

SoundClick artist: zepo1a - page with MP3 music downloads

The songs on the above link.

"Confessions of a Freelance Buffalo Hunter" when I was young and fast I had just got my new CryBaby Wha and that song was the result. It's an Original. There are lyrics but they have never been recorded.

Little Wing Solo I did for an online collaboration when I was (am? :)) old and slow, a year or two ago.

I can still sing and play Blackbird (Beatles Cover).

I'm only posting in this thread to be the token "nerd" here :). I have a master's degree in French Horn performance. Life had other plans for me and I am now teaching music. I am a fair pianist and singer but I would love to be good on guitar. I own a very basic Martin acoustic that I play on and off. Lots of my friends play well and they have taught me some things, but it's hard to learn in a visual or intuitive way, the way most guitar players learn, when I have reading music so ingrained in my training. It's a whole different approach, if that makes sense. Anyway I admire people who are basically self-taught and play for sheer enjoyment. I've enjoyed reading this thread, glad to see so many musicians here.
