The inline battery is acting as a capacitor, which is what a battery is anyway. In this case the battery is giving you protection from voltage spikes/drops.

blah for .....s.....

My 901 pass through had an inline battery and it was pants.

Made a direct pass through with a Kensington and a switch for a 901 and it gives constant 5.1volts on a 901 atty and battery housing.

Goes through juice like nothing else.

I would say other than the portable pack being awkard (sp) it is as good as a Screwdriver..

I found this lil goody online and was wondering if the 5.5v was too much or do you think it would work ... Amstron PP33 - Li-Ion Universal External Battery and Chargers for Most Portable Electronic Devices I like it cause its 3400mAH as where the Kensington is only 1800mAH and for about the same price was thinking twice the capacity cant be such a bad thing would that .5 volt make that big of a difference??? or should I keep on searching???

Deleted - I misunderstood the OP

Just did a little looking around.
For the OP - The Amstron PP33 has a max output of 700mAH even though the storage capacity is much higher. The PP33 is also a lot bigger than the Kensington. There is a one year warranty on the PP33. I think 700 will work with a pass-through, but I'm not sure.

For Lucky - Looks like a nice unit. I like the case, but there is no brand listed and I couldn't find any warranty. The max output is 1A or 1000mAH. The capacity is higher. Capacity and output are two different animals.

For the rest - The Kensington has a max output of 1.5A or 1500mAH. It has a two year warranty.

I like the one that Lucky found, but I very much like the warranty on the Kensington. So much so that we bought three (3) at the sale price. Figure we got 3 for the regular price of 2. Plan to rotate the third one in regularly. I don't know enough about electronics to know if the increased capacity will actually make the units last longer between charges, but I believe that to be the case. I still think the Kensington is the smallest. It is no more than 1/4 inch (if that) thick and maybe 2 x 3.5 inches. I think it's actually smaller than my iPod nano (2nd gen). It also charges on RAZR (mini usb) car charger.

Catanonia, I was only answering the OPs question about what purpose the inline battery serves.

I don't use an inline battery either, it keeps your voltage at 3.6/3.7 I get much better vape when running straight USB power 5 volts, but I have burned up a few attys with it. Most probably because I let it suck the cart dry. Just have to learn to top off more often.

I have the new 510 passthru from Janty. It utilizes the e-cigar battery and operates my 510 atom perfectly. What some forget to add is that the inline battery protects your computer, and those with older comps have reported some horror stories using the direct PTs.

I will add that a simple device like the iO dual port USB power adapter (TAS electronics $4 shipped) aleviates any comp troubles. http://www.usbpoweradapter.net/

Kreel, you are right on. The inline battery also protects your atty, I think this was the first and most important reason for adding the inline battery.
If I am going to plug into a USB port, it is only through a self powered hub. I am going to order a passthrough with the inline battery for my 510. That way if I need to I can stick the thing in my pocket and walk away still vaping on it. I may also get a Kensington USB power pack battery that I have been hearing so much about.

Well I should get mine today. It's a UNIVERSAL that's why no brand name. I loved my Kensington, but it blew out 4 4075/901 attys in a week so something is not right on 4075's with the kensington. I think someone said that the kensington and the APC pack can go above teh 1000 mah and blow out your attys.

That's ashame,
Did you by chance maybe let your cart run a little dry. I have found that when using higher voltage/power I of course get a better vape, but it also uses more liquid. I too blew out a 901 atty this way. I have since learned to keep my carts topped off, and I drip a drop or two directly on the coil. And I also learned not to over heat my atty by over vaping. I let it cool a bit in between hits.

I have never had an RN4075 blow out on my Kensington, my atomisers die due to becoming wimps but not one of them became open circuit. Perhaps the US one puts out more volts?
