It's going to be interesting when this chip enters the market and adds options other than the DNA40. Let everyone speculate like they did with the dna chip set before it was consistently available to the masses. Yihi has produced reliable chips for quite some time with superior functionality that the dna didn't until recently like reverse polarity protection. You can also upgrade the chip set through there website verses having to ship it back to the vendor. Each unit comes with bar code to verify authenticity, and carries a 1 year manufacturers warranty but you must complete the warranty card and retain proof of purchase and invoice.

Questions most likely can be answered by Onedesign1 (Varitube) since he had the opportunity to use one in Vegas and also had a great relationship with the manufacturer. It will be nice to have options.

Well if the coil was a standardized element this would be fairly true... but the fact is that they are not -- they are hand wound -- sometimes full contact sometimes not -- sometimes have internal stresses sometimes not... sometimes its 60 degrees when it takes the first measure, sometimes its 90 degrees out...

with hand would coils with zero consistency there are a massive amount of assumptions that are made.

If we all switched to something semi-standard like the vaping donuts then maybe this would be a different story, but they are extrapolating with a ton of assumptions along the way to try and guess at the temp -- this is not the same thing as a specially wound, tested, and standardized NTC temp sensor...,.

Ni contact coils do not work reliably with TL it is impossible, Evolv said that at the beginning.
I have found no publication that says internal stress effects the thermal resistance coefficients of Elements. Mechanical damage possibly might.
It does not matter if the temperature of the first reading is taken at 60, 90 or -22 degrees. All that matters is that the board and atty are the same temperature. The DNA 40 has a temperature sensor on the board so it knows what the ambient temperature is. It does assume the coil is the same temp, that is no secret.
I have tried this new coil first measurement at -22 C and guess what it worked perfectly.

Woofer, I would have to respectfully disagree. Brandon himself in his hour long video stated that they were learning about coils and what worked from the people that were using the chip. During the video he stated that he was using a contact coil and that sometimes they worked and other times they didn't. He also stated they had no pre-release information and they were thinking about making some "Hoe-To's" and posting them on the Evolv website.

Yep. I have a Darringer and Lemo running great with contact coils. Doesn't seem to make one bit of difference for me.

I'm a titanium user and contact coils and spaced both work well for me. Right now I'm using a Hana box I built with an N22 dripper with a 24ga Ti - 6 spaced wraps at .20Ω @ 320°. The 24ga is easy to work with and very consistent. The heavier guage lets you trap your legs under the screws without concern and wicks nicely. Rossum also turned me onto a triple twist 30 that rocks and I go contact with the twisted.

I am don't see how you disagree I said "Ni contact coils do not work reliably with TL it is impossible"
And Brandon said "that sometimes they [Ni contact coils] worked and other times they didn't".
We are both saying they are unreliable.

You are correct there are no How To videos, information was passed through various channels, beta team, reviewers and interviews.
Some how I knew that according to Evolv contact coils would be unreliable long before I had a device in hand.
Some claimed they worked well, I tried and found the results to be exactly what Brandon said.

I have no experience with Ti coils so I have no comments about Ti.
Cheers.

Well Evolv does not recommend it.
I had some that worked great for a time, some not acceptable ever.
They all died with hot spots.
Anyway I am glad you enjoy your rDNA 40 regardless of how you coiled it! ;)

Somebody said something about silver wire, but I don't think the NR kind we used to work with on the Oddy will work, right?

I saw a thread started by Imeo about NR wire maybe there is some info in there or try sending a email to evolve Help Desk - Submit a ticket they are pretty good about responding

to all I started the thread for the reason of finding out what the joules measurement meant and how it was useful info in the SX mini M class mod. The point of the thread is for my self and other less informed members to understand what joules are and how they can be applied to vaping.

I can see the twist and turn and side conversations about NR wire but your opinions about the DNA and or clones good or bad dont really belong here and just junk up any information others might want to gain from this thread.
Thank you for being respectful to me and others who do not want to read these comments when they learn about Joules.

Got a reply from them per my request for detailed info..... a long reply with just double-talk and no meaningful explanation about the temp control....same "canned" explanation as to what joules is... and went on to say they can't write a white paper on the topic and can't provide technical details of the chip but they have their views of course.

EDITED: Still talking with them.... they are giving a bit more info....FLIR used to measure temp...

So Busardo's opinions are the truth now!
I have two rDNA 40s one from pre order and one from cyber Monday.
They both work perfectly and are all I use now.
My opinion is different to Busardo's.

The only other device I own that he reviewed is the iStick20, he gave it a thumbs up.
My iStick is evil and unusable.

With mods I own, Busardo is twice wrong.

Actually, he gave the iStick 20 a thumbs down because of its mean instead of RMS mode.
