Hello everyone,

I got my first e-cig (joye 510) a little over 3 weeks ago. I did alot of reading here on the forums before ordering. Overall I love it, and I'm already barely smoking "real" cigarettes anymore.

But the thing is, I can barely taste the juice! Admittedly, I've only gotten juice from one vendor so far. I'm waiting on some from VaporBomb (which I found here on the forums).

I got my stuff from AmericanEliquidStore.com, and I got 100% VG juices to start, because I was worried about throat irritation from PG. I've read the VG has less flavor than PG, so I got another bottle of one flavor (Irish Coffee) as 100% PG (they don't offer %blends). I've tried about a 75%PG mix of the two bottles, and still can barely taste anything. I got an apple-cinnamon from them that is 100% VG and I can REALLY taste the cinnamon, but the apple part is like the other flavors; I can taste it, but just barely and I have to really "concentrate" to find it.

I read about "steeping" so I let the VG bottles sit for 4 days with the caps off. I just got the PG bottle in the mail today, but from what I read I expected PG to have at least 2x the flavor of VG.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong, as other folks here on ECF have raved about the great flavor in AmericanEliquidStore's VG juices. I've watched videos on how to fill the cartridges and drip on the atomizer, so I think I've got it right, but maybe I've misunderstood things.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom that might help?

Patience - your tastebuds are shot from all that terbacker you've been burning. Your sense of taste will take while to come back.

When it does, some flavors of e-liquid do have a stronger taste than others (like menthol or cinnamon)
Some folk prefer a much stronger flavor - in fact, there are juice suppliers who will double (or even triple) the flavor component.

Also, you are on the right track with the PG/VG ratio adjustment - higher ratios of VG mean a softer throat-hit and a muted flavor.

Keep experimenting - look for suppliers who offer small sample bottles or mixed sampler packs - and enjoy the journey!

Oh, and, welcome to ECF!

I also heard that dripping will give a stronger flavor.

I'm just 8 days smoke-free today and it seems overnight I was suddenly able to start tasting some juices. In fact I had several sample bottles that I smelled to see which I'd like to try vaping and they all smelled terrible and I had no idea how in the world THAT smell related to what the flavor was supposed to be and there was no way I was going to vape anything that smelled so disgusting. I even contacted the vendor I got the sample juices from to get their idea on the problem because I did see so many people complimenting the "delicious" flavors that at that time, made me gag just smelling them.

Then I got to day 7/8 and now I can smell them properly and I can taste them properly as well. It wasn't just that these needed to steep, as they had been previously steeped, so it was actually that I started to get my sense of smell and taste back! I'm sure as more time passes I'll become even more sensitive to it.
I don't know whether its the juice or the flavor or the vendor but I seem to taste it more on the exhale, and I cna also become "numb" to it - there stops being a flavor or it gets very light. Also I do seem to taste things better when I have been drinking a lot (not alcohol lol).

Best of luck to you!

34 years of smoking and now I'm almost 7 weeks analog free. I could swear that everything I eat has more taste now. I've been saying things like "thats the best pizza I've had in years", "omg thats good Ceaser Salad". I really beleive things taste better now. I also started with a 510 kit but within a couple days I had decided it wasn't giving me enough vapour and the batteries are a full time job to keep charged. I switched to an EgoT and that has kept me satisfied mostly, but now at week 7 I'm starting to think reo. GL and stay off those analogs

I got a kiwi one the other day I by a brand I can't remember, tasted nothing like it but even Kiwi flavored sweets (candy) never really taste like kiwi so I don't know.

One name that keeps popping up everywhere is the mysteriously code named RY4...
I wanted to see what the fuss was about, should arrive in a day or 2 hopefully.

by the way I use a Joye 510 T (tank system)

I have been vaping for 11 weeks and americaneliquidstore apple cinnamon still tastes like mainly cinnamon to me. I do like their english toffee and mint chocolate and the root beer isn't bad. It might be time to get the ego batts(or just bigger batteries) and some 2.0 ohm boge cartos- americaneliquidstore didn't have the 2.0 ohm the last I checked and the best prices are at crystalclearvaping and nitelitevapors.us

Try mixing your own juice. I made made some cotton candy flavored juice, but the flavor was weak, so I added more of the flavoring. It tastes great now. My wife likes a really strong menthol and I double the amount of menthol crystals when I mix her juice. As your taste comes back you can lower the amount of flavoring you add. Congrats on becoming smoke free.

Drink some water. Might sound crazy but it works

That worked OK for me when I hit that 'loss of taste' phase. What worked even better was the Dasani water with a trace of lemon flavoring. None of the other flavors seemed to have any impact, just the lemon. Definitley glad to be over that bit. Food was just starting to get interesting again, then *poof* lol

Thanks for all the replies!

I actually drink 3-4 32oz bottles of water every day, so I'm generally sipping throughout the day.

I think I may try a cartomizer, I've been thinking of trying most of the common variations anyway, just to see what works "best" for me.

So last night, I cleaned out several cartridges, blew out the atomizers, and soaked the flavors in hot water for a couple of hours.

I put it all back together today and I'm now able to understand the increased throat hit and decreased vapor of the PG juice. I guess there was still enough vg residue in the atomizer yesterday or something. I tried adding the irish coffee pg to the irish coffee vg in a clean cartridge without blowing out the atomizer yesterday.

Oddly, even with dripping directly to the atomizer first, whenever I blow out the atomizers the first few drags always taste like burnt popcorn to me. Its kindof funny how that taste, and the awful taste of the cartridge filler burning (when it gets dry) are really easy for me to taste, but I can barely taste the liquid.

I guess at this point I need to let my tastebuds come back to life, and get used to the whole setup so things are more consistent.

Thanks again for all the advice, everyone
