......the doctor would NOT operate if I continued to smoke........

Say what???? He denied you medical treatment because you smoke??? Is that even legal? Nevermind, it probabaly is, thank you Nanny State.

My dad's cardiologist read him the riot act about smoking - but he still did the triple bypass.

I can't remember how I found out about e-cigs....I think I was just surfing and ran into an ad for njoy or something. I was curious, and the thought of being able to "smoke" anywhere was so enticing (and not smelling, and not consuming all the crap in analogs, and, and, and...). So I bought the NJoy Pro, and tried really hard to like it. It just didn't work consistently. Sometimes I would draw on it and nothing would happen. Sometimes I would get a bunch of liquid in my mouth (GROSS!!!). Somewhere in there I found this board, and decided I should try the 510 manual. It was good, but while I was waiting for it to arrive, I started smoking analogs again, and the 510 never took....

Until January 5th, when I made a conscious decision to quit (b-day present to best friend). I came back here, read alot, and started back on the 510 and so far it's been great. I don't care for all the extra work though....batteries, refilling carts, etc. And so....

I ordered a juice Box - should be here this week sometime. Ooooh I hope it is everything I am thinking it is!! : )

But if it isn't...I'm still not going to go back to smoking!!

I'm making the switch because of necessity. My mom and 2 of my sisters are extremely allergic to smoke, and I was having to hide it from them (as much as that is possible with the smell). Vaping allows me to continue the nicotine without these problems, and still involves the act unlike snus or dip. The Health benefits also are great incentives.

Actually if it wasn`t for my sister I`d still be smoking never would have gotten one of these things on my own. The 901 with the auto battery cut me down on cigs for the first week and the 510 arrived doing what I`d of never thought possible I stopped smoking that same day.

I still get craving but do fine if I hit the 510 a little more they move on.

Being possibly healthier is just a bonus. Being cheaper is a must thats why I`ll never be able to get a production style mod.

After 23 years I knew the oral fixation was NOT going away. The nicotine isn't a problem, I smoke a low level, I can go a long time without a cigarette. But I like smoking. And I don't want anyone telling me I can't smoke. Go raise the cost of a frigging Scotch to about $20 a drink! They kill much more than cigarettes!

But I don't like the smell, so I always smoke outside, and I'm getting too old to shiver outside and suck down a cigarette in 2 minutes....now that's not very enjoyable.

No smell, I can vape as long as I want, and my chest feels a lot better. Now I just have to find someone to open a shop in town :).

I had only been smoking somewhere in the range of 3-10 cigarettes per day, but for over 25 years.

I never intended to quit, although I always wanted to find something that would take the place of cigarettes in my life. I NEEDED the break from work, and I NEEDED the time away from the world, and I NEEDED a distraction from the stresses of everyday life now and then.

I was in restaurant about a year ago and a guy started telling me about his Blu electronic cigarette.
I thought they were the stupidest thing I had ever heard of.

On Father's Day of this past year my sister was in town and we had dinner with my father. After dinner she showed me her NPro and let me have a couple of drags. I bought one two days later, and eventually gave it to her along with all my NPro gear, because I had moved well beyond the NPro by that point.

Seven months now without, and I spit in the face of cigarettes.

I discovered e-cigs completely by accident one day while looking something up online. I was instantly curious and started doing some research. I ended up here on the forums. I was a lurking sponge. I kept coming back to learn, and learn some more.

On New Year's eve, the band I'm in was booked at two gigs. It was snowing and freezing cold. As usual, I stood outside between sets to power-smoke a couple of cigs. Armed with my new knowledge, I was really hit with my own absurdity. There I stood with fresh snow covering open toed heels, wearing nothing but a little sweater over my dress, bouncing up and down to stay warm while being pelted with sleet as I lit my second cigarette.

If what I'd been reading is true, and vaping has enabled so many people to quit smoking painlessly, maybe there was hope for me after all.

A week later I placed my first order and came out of lurkdom while I waited for my purchase to arrive.

I sadly started smoking so young that I never learned how to do "life without cigarettes".

Over the years I'd tried "cold turkey" - that always lasted about 6 anxiety filled hours. Patches? Nope. Gum? Gross. Chantix? That got me 8 months quit until one day, good and pi$$ed-off at something, I pulled into the gas station and within two days was right back where I started. Surgery? A smoke-free week in the hospital and in the car on the way home, (every time!) the first thing I'd do was light a smoke. Asthma? Bronchitis? Being told I had early signs of COPD? Nope, didn't matter, I was a die-hard smoker, period.

A 1.5+ pack a day smoker and the $8.00 a pack it was costing me was more of an issue than actually smoking. If I was in the city and had to buy a pack? Almost $10.00 - and I b$tched about it, but handed the money over every time.

I stopped buying cartons because I couldn't justify it. It makes no sense when I think about it now. I forked-out over $25.00 for 3 packs that would last me a little more than two days. Every other day I was buying the same three packs! For as long as I can remember, if I didn't have at least one unopened pack in the drawer I was anxious and obsessing. Extra packs in the drawer and a pack in the console of my car - that was my comfort-zone.

I didn't think that vaping would be instant success, but I was hopeful it would lead me to quitting. I didn't set a quit date. I didn't have expectations. I'd done enough reading to know that for a lot of people, "it's a process". I would have been thrilled if vaping allowed me to slowly cut down.

When my PV arrived I'd read enough to know what to do. I was really excited as I plugged in the batteries, played around with the PCC, smelled the e-juices and pre-filled cartridges. I was smoking my cigarettes as I got everything set-up to take my first vape.

Wow! I took to it right away. The first draw was a little awkward, but I really liked it! Pushing the button became second nature in about an hour. Soon, I was biting the tip and holding my e-cig between my teeth, it felt soothing.

It shocked me as each day went by and I had no desire to smoke.

I just passed the three week smoke-free mark and I couldn't be happier, or more proud of myself. It was a painless, anxiety-free transition.

There's an opened pack of Newport Light 100's in a ziplock bag in my freezer. Sometimes I wonder how long I'll keep it in there. It kind of amuses me that I know it's there but have no desire to touch it :)

Vaping mops the floor with smoking. I love vaping much more than I ever thought I loved smoking. I love everything about it - from the "cool gadget" aspect, to discovering new toys and tastes, and even my new ritual of stuffing and filling carts.

Thanks ECF! The "WHY" for me was discovered when I found you guys! :)

I bought my first e-cig when I read a post about how bad they are. I knew that was such a load of crap that I deliberately went out and got one to show how wrong it was lol
I'm principled like that :)
Ironically, i'd have never known about them had it not been for that negative post. Crazy heh?

I personally quit smoking for almost 6 months beginning in late 2007 and was on the brink of starting again. It's not that I was still getting cravings so much as I just missed the novelty of it. I was actually searching online for one of those contraptions you stick on the end of normal cigarettes to filter out more of the tar, and through the myriad pages on Google I browsed, I finally stumbled upon e-cigs. I bought one for $120, it sucked, but it did the job and fulfilled the novelty aspect of smoking I sought. This was early 2008, and let me tell you, ecigs today are worlds better than they were back then. I can't even imagine how much better they'll be 10 years from now.
