Can I run a silica wick tank setup in a genny style RBA?

Gbojar....I am not sure from your posts if you make the coil before hand and thread the silica through it or you wrap the coil around the silica directly. I'll just tell you how I do it and hopefully it will help you out. Get a 3/32inch (2.4mm) drill bit and wrap you coils around that. Then make a U with 3 inches of 2mm silica....get 6 inches of any wire and thread it between the U. put the two ends of the wire together and thread through the coil you just made. Finally, pull the ends of the wire and this will move the silica towards and then through the coil. Cut off one of the tails of the silica and your done. Hope this made sense.

Awesome! Thanks EDO. I was making coil, then very patiently wetting one end of the silica and threading it thru the coils like thread thru the eye of a needle. Boy was I making it much harder than it had to be. Keeping it from unraveling while pushing the tip thru was a chore in and of itself ... Hahaha, and now that I am holding my pv horizontally vs vertical no more dry hits. Like I said in the beginning, haven't been at this long, often going back to my protank and carts for a few days in between each time. Being a typical Hungarian man I never ask for directions ... lol. Thanks again to all of you!

ok great...I was hoping you could visualize what I was trying to explain....it makes threading the silica through the coil very easy. Takes about 30 seconds.

Any idea what size bit is ideal with doubled 3mm? I have a ton of the stuff and it should be a good match for the RSST, but I struggle to avoid choking the wick and also avoid having it too loose. I'll have to play around with it a bit. My RSST sits pretty much unused unless I get home from having adult beverages and want the oomph of the SS setup I have in there.

Sorry Saircasewit....all my gennnys are pretty compact and have small wick holes so I stick with 2mm silica on all my builds. I should get the AFPV pretty soon and that has a giant deck and a big wick hole so I would like to know as well. If I had to guess, I wouid say 1/8inch drill bit. I bet pdib would know.

so, I, personally, wanted to answer this question with a mouthful of silica/Genny vapor. YES.

I braided three pieces of Avidvaper's "3mm" silica (tight). Torched it stiff, to work with better. wrapped with 28 Nichrome (=27 Kanthal). don't have an ohm meter anymore, guessing .8Ω, cause its a fat, fat wick (and that's what it vapes like). (this AGA has a 5/32" wick hole {fancy that!}). Very, VERY nice vaping experience.

I do want to add, however (in the interest of those who are comparing), that the silica does bring a flavor into the game; and that I do find the Nextel ceramic to be a superior vape. Comparing silica to ss mesh, its a toss-up; kinda depends on which off-flavor you prefer.

Thanks for the photo tutorial pdib. Now you have to see this one coming ... Where do we find Nextel Ceramic and in what thickness do you recommend?

To me the flavors are a little muted with ss mesh. There is an off flavor with silica but it seems to last about a quarter of the tank. Do you still get an off flavor with silica after your first tank of vaping with it?

I'd say no. I've still got that silica wick in my genny, and I'm quite happy with it. No flavor to speak of, now. I'm feeling like a coil with the ceramic rope is more responsive: but my mech is in need of a contact cleaning, so I can't say for sure.

Hey. Got my skinny Nextel. Gonna post a quick thread on it.

I'd like to chime in her I got a couple Agt's didn't like how they love to get hot spots from the post being far away.So I decided to do silica in there and now like it very much.Seems once you use it for a little bit it starts to wick better.Don't over tighten your coils and choke it.I am getting very good flavor, wicking and no more hot spots.

Doubled up 2.5mm German silica with a piece of 1mm added in but not going down the wick hole (tail is just draped on the deck). The wick is set up vertical like SS would be vapes good but for the first time I had to do the genny tilt to keep it wet.

Where did you find the 2.5mm? I have the 3mm German from RTD that's really nice silica, but it's considerably fatter than 'regular' 3mm silica.
