They got where they belong... The other side of the battery :)

You have to see a battery as a container which wants to be in balance. A charged battery means it is off balance. One side has most of the electrons. So as you use it, electrons want to run to the other side and a depleted battery is one that has the same number (or almost) of electrons on both sides.

And the heat comes from electrons rubbing against each other and the walls of the conductor which is kinda pornographic if you think about it lol :)

Some are given off as heat and the rest go around and around in circles through the circuit. When the wire loses enough of its base metal electrons to radiation, the wire pops, the current flow stops, and it's time to recoil.

If it glows, then photons/electrons are emitted and the wire starts to lose mass slowly over time. Black body radiation would occur in the infrared spectrum at lower temps in a wetted coil.

But, we are getting way too deep into the technical. You press the fire button and vape! If it doesn't vape, you troubleshoot the cause. The wick is dry, the battery is dead, or the coil has popped. :)

Which could take months... I used a coil for 3 months before I replaced it with a nickel build (it was still perfect) :)

The way you worded this, I waited to see if you had a punchline. tchavei has it right, a battery is actually two parts: one full of potential and one wanting that potential. Additionally, you lose a bunch in our setups due to the coil glowing as it's almost the exact principle as an incandescent light bulb. :)

so if it takes more force to get thru a .5 ohm coil than to go thru a 2.5 ohm coil then what you are saying is a . 5 ohm coil has more resistance than a 2.5 ohm coil....

Yeah, I guess I said that wrong. Amps is like flow rate in hydraulic systems. Less resistance means less restriction on the power. A short is basically zero resistance, so the battery just dumps power. A 3 ohm resistor on an 18650 will just sip the power.
Like a bucket with a whole in the bottom. If you've got a 5gal bucket with a 1/8" hole in the bottom it will drain slower than a 2" hole. A short would be a bucket with no bottom, which gets messy QUICK! ... In both cases.

Not sure although my guess is that the internal barrier couldn't stop the electrons urge to make love to each other and they finally were able to marry and live in complete balance till recycling turns them apart again :)

In our batteries the potential energy gets generated via chemical reactions, and those cells can decay and get damaged. With lithium it can actually grow "spires" that can jack up through the cells and get dangerous.

Never mind being right on this one just trying to beat tchavei.

Negative ions in a battery really love opposite poles and are attracted to the cathode side with the plus sign. They all go over there a few at a time and hang out until there are almost no more negative ions on the anode side. Then, we charge that battery and they are forced to go back where they came from.
